It is one thing to drive next to the fjords in Norway, it is another thing entirely to slice through the dark waters with high mountains and trickling waterfalls in every direction. The Nærøyfjord was the most spectacular fjord I have ever seen with narrow walls and lovely waterfalls. The Flam-Gudvagen route takes about 2 hours, from there you can take a 20-minute bus ride back to Flam. The Lustrabaatane crew were organized and efficient getting people on board, however, it was a packed ship. This cruise is a well-priced alternative to Visit Flam option and also on the iconic "Norway in a Nutshell" Route, so expect crowds. Though busy on board, this cruise was still a highlight of my trip to Norway and highly recommended doing a cruise through these fjords. I wrote about this experience on my blog called "Moderately Adventurous" if you'd like to read more.

We booked with this ferry company on the recommendation of the tourist information advisor at the Flam customer service building as it was more suitable for our budget than our cruise provider was offering. So glad we chose this company to sail to Gudvangen with. We were the only 2 passengers on the ferry and were treated very well. Staff were incredibly friendly and gave us some fun facts and information about the fjords we were sailing down. The captain even took into account how we'd be getting from Gudvange back to Flam and offered to take us by car, free of charge back to our ship, and even gave us a complimentary drink for our custom. 100% would recommend this company, way cheaper, very friendly staff!!

We caught this ferry late afternoon, final one leaves at 6 pm. Morning ferries run from 10am at each hour then more often from 12 noon. Place for 6 to 7 vehicles only.

The crew of the LustraBaatane saved our Norway in a Nutshell experience!!! After one o of the main touristy companies had their boat broke down, the Flam TI was telling people buses were their only option. Thanks to our Rick Steves guidebook we knew there was a car ferry option! We ended up being the only 2 passengers aboard this large ship, which meant one of the best and most memorable travel experiences of our lives! We got to know the kind and friendly while enjoying the out of this world views. Highly recommend as a better option than the overly crowded tourist lines.
