Unique organic winery with stellar views
I went here to get some wine for my sister who had come a few months ago earlier. It was a great experience, the wines unique and very good quality. I’d recommend it—the drive in is a bit intense, but worth it.

    Beautiful winery
We first had Podere le Ripi wines at Eataly, Boston and eagerly planned a visit during our trip to Montalcino. Our hotel, Castiglion del Bosco, arranged a "Bonzai Wine Tour and Farmer's Lunch", which was very fairly priced. Martina was our hostess and Paola was the chef preparing our lunch. This is a very beautiful winery to visit in the SE of Montalcino. Their bonzai vineyard is on site; they also obtain grapes from other areas of Montalcino. We purchased and shipped wines home including ones we can't find in the US. We will definitely return on our next visit to Tuscany! (We recommend a mid size SUV for visiting PLR as well as many other wineries in Montalcino. There are a lot of gravel/dirt roads with ruts throughout the area. During our visit, a MB station wagon arrived with a flat tire)

An incredible experience, the tasting tour of this exceptional winery!
An exceptional organic winery of the highest class! This place shows that biodynamic viticulture is not just a fanciful notion but produces top-quality wines. Andrea's knowledgeable explanations of the innovative cultivation systems, including the "Bonsai" vineyard that yields small amounts of high-quality wine, were very enlightening. The subsequent tour of the brick wine cellar, with its roof arching like a cathedral dome, followed by the grand finale of the wine tasting, was outstanding. It is logical that wines from biodynamic cultivation are not cheap compared to conventional wines, but it is definitely worth tasting them! It was an incredibly impressive experience, and we wish the charming and innovative team of this remarkable organic winery all the best and many enthusiastic customers for their unique wines!

As this is a rather new winery, they need to find a competitive edge. Their vineyards are split over two locations, East and West of Montalcino. The visit and tasting center is located in the South-East of Montalcino. To get there is already an adventure on its own, as you need to follow a beautiful strada bianche with views over the valley and the wineries, and with some steep and narrow descents (which means you need to get back uphill via the same roads).
The main differentiation with the neighbor wineries is the fact that they make their wine according to biodynamic principles (e.g. keep the use of chemicals as limited as possible). For their exclusive bonsai wine, the density of the vineyards is very high to generate more competition so that the roots will go deeper. This will give smaller grapes but with a different exclusive taste. The wine cellar is also special and very cool using an intelligent system. They want that the wine is tasting more fruity than oaky so the time in oak is limited and they even use concrete barrels for aging.
The tasting was done in a tasting room with a view over the valley. For 40 euro we could taste 6 wines (for 30 euro more you can get a 7th namely the bonsai wine). The volumes we got where – like they say themselves – not enough to get you drunk (it could indeed have been a bit more) but it gives a good idea of the range of wines they offer. The first orange wine (Canna Torta) was good and refreshing (but already costs 40 euro). The blend (sangiovese + syrah) was not so special, but the Rosso di Montalcino and the two Brunello di Montalcino’s were very competitive. All in all, we enjoyed our visit but it could all have been a little bit more. We had the feeling they are targeting exclusivity (club members only) and that’s a pity.

Podere Le Ripi offers some breathtaking views of the Chianti valley and the winery is also a work of art in itself, uniquely designed by the owner’s son.
They have a very exciting approach to winemaking and this is definitely reaping rewards for them. And their best wines are probably still to come having had some early tasting of their upcoming reservas.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It is truly off the beaten path so don't be alarmed as the directions take you deep down a gravel dirt road. The suddenly you turn right and there is this beautiful round brick edifice that represents the unique nature of this winery. The staff were great, the wines were great, we enjoyed the entire experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Great experience, our guide from Arco was very knowledgable and patient and even gave is a discount on our purchase. All the staff was professional and answered all our questions. We went with our 6 yo and 9yo kids and they were also captivated. The wine tasting was great, not rushed and paired with bread and olive oil. We would definitely recommend it

We have visited many wineries, both abroad and in California where we live. The visit to Le Ripi was by far the best experience we have ever had. The tour of the grounds and the explanation of the biological process was outstanding. Seeing the grapes being brought in from harvesting was a special treat. Lunch was amazing and to top all of that off, the wine tasting was incredible! Bonsai was amongst the best red wines I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. And each of the other wines was special in its own right. The hospitality shown to us was impeccable. If you get the opportunity to tour this winery, do so. It will be a special day for you and yours.

What a wonderful winery! It has everything...beautiful location, terrific Brunello wines, and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I toured and tasted wines at 10 different wineries in the Montalcino area and this one was my favorite. I enjoyed the wine so much that I joined their wine club. It is a little out of the way but well worth the trip. I even went back a 2nd time with friends. And the Bonsai wine is the best!

Me and my 2 friends were suggested to come here from other 2 young friends. We did a lovely wine tasting and the girls explained really well and easily all the details and aspects about the experience. Fascinating atmosphere, location and super good vibes. Really suggested

Although we were staying in Chianti and had many lovely wineries close to our home base, we have long been fans of Brunello and thus planned a trip to the Montalcino region. This particular winery is known for its unique approaches—from letting a animals roam freely throughout the vineyards and building the cellar without any iron support so not to change the energy fields to having the most densely planted vines in the world for its “Bonsai” offering—while we also enjoyed sampling the winery’s offerings on the lovey tasting patio overlooking the valley. Moreover, the wine that we purchased shipped and arrived just as promised!
