We were on our way to Altesino and stopped at Caparzo as we'd enjoyed their wines. There isn't an official tasting or tour, but they allow you to taste wines that interest you. The host (vendor) was VERY accommodating and explained the wine properties well. We really enjoyed our visit and bought of few of the wines which were very good and reasonably priced. Our purchases were nicely packaged as well.

Me and my italian girlfriend went to this place because of the good reviews and it was worth it. The place is really beautiful and calm and the view is breathtaking. We did a personal visit of the cellars with the wine-tasting and everything was perfect. We were alone and the guide was really kind and welcoming. We recommend it for the place but also for the excellent wine!

WE have a friend at home who is a wine importer and she set us up with a private tour of this winery.
A bit challenging to get to, but just follow the GPS.
Our tour guide Caterina, was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Wines were terrific.
Great story and a stand out winery.
Although we initially thought the grappa was vile, we bought a bottle and had some back home, and it was pretty good.

We visited Caparzo as per the indication of the host of our Villa in Montepulciano. We were welcome by a beautiful blonde woman, which we believe was not Italian, but she was very nice and offered a lot of information. As for the location Caparzo is ok but not very nice. In whatb regards the wine, it is only average and disappointing in comparison to other brunellos and Nobile di Montepulciano we tried in Tuscany.

We had gone to Montalcino in search of some great wines, and we found some. However, on our way back to San Gimignano/Ulignano, we decided to go off on a dirt road and follow a sign that had said "Wine Tasting" or something like that. We passed a small Castle/Mansion and continued on until we found this absolutely stunning vineyard. Our hostess, Julia, was extremely nice, and each glass we tasted was almost a full pour. They had SO many wines to try, so be careful, or share glasses. I think I tried 6 and was a bit tipsy.... Both the whites and reds were some of the best wines we had during our entire trip, and definitely the best we had on the Montalcino trip. I like dry reds and whites, and they did not disappoint; however, they have something for every taste there, so make sure this vineyard is on your Tuscan agenda - you will not regret it!

Walking from Buonconvento to San Quirico D'Orcia on the Via Francigena there are few places to stop for refreshments. As we were walking past the vineyards we noticed signs advertising a 'pilgrim break' at the Caparzo Winery. For just a few euros we were invited to have a ham sandwich, bottle of water and glass of red wine. We happily took up the offer - additional advantages for walkers are the opportunity to sit in a cool room, and the availability of spotlessly clean bathroom facilities.

Our group included 9 adults and 2 teenagers. We took the tour through the winery. Our group enjoyed the tasting at the end, and we sampled about 10 different wines.

Very interesting wine tour by Alessandra - so knowledgeable and serviceminded. The Brunellos, the Rosso di Montalcino and the Moscadello are really great wines.

We were staying at Castello Banfi, a good 25 miles in the opposite direction over Montalcino, but we love Carpazo, so we had to try it out. We worked our way up to the winery, with many missteps, getting lost in the countryside (Google Maps is not perfect). As we approached Carpazo, all we could wonder was "are we in the right place?"
The complex looked tiny for a winery that produces wonderful wine the is plentiful throughout Chicago... much, much smaller than the massive Banfi complex that we saw the day before.
We proceeded down a dusty hilltop, Cypress-tree lined single lane road, expecting to have to turn around every second. We arrived too late for a tour, but they are always happy to let one pay for a tasting.... The greeter tried hard but was English-challenged. However, it doesn't take a lot of sign language to try a Rosso, Brunello and a Reserva. Plus we were able to book the tour for the morning.
We were back on time, despite the dusty, single lanes roads. The sole worker with reasonable command of ENGLISH was waiting for us, as excited to practice her English as we were to learn about our beloved Carpazo. She proceeded to lead us around the 4 buildings of Carpazo, telling us the history, the lore, the present and the life of the wine. It wound up being a private tour, just her and the 2 of us. She was incredibly knowledgable, being a native of Montalcino, growing up and living on a nearby rival winery. It is truly in their blood.
By the time we made it to the special tasting area, we had seen enough to appreciate the wine and feel like we earned it. No wine tasted as good the whole trip!

We booked a winetasting (for two couples) at the Caparzo Winery on a recent visit to Italy. Our host Lorenzo took us on a tour of the winery and then to a winetasting room for sampling. Lorenzo was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband is a Sommelier, and Lorenzo ably answered all of his questions. We tried multiple wines, sometimes going back to retaste previous ones for comparison. We purchased many bottles to bring home to our cellar. I recommend this very worthwhile experience for anyone visiting the Montalcino area.

Call Italia Tel. 0577 848390 or email caparzo@caparzo. I do not recall exactly how much the tour cost, but it was not dear, I believe around 15 euros.

Do they have a wine shop on the premises were you can just do straight tastings and purchases? We'd like to skip the tour stuff if possible

I am sure they can go on the tour. Caparzo is family owned and run. They employ generations of families. The young woman who gave out tour in English was from a vineyard working family nearby. Plus, the Italians are so family-oriented! I think there is enough interesting things to see ( the presses, vats, storage casks, etc) that a 2 and 4 year old would be amused for an hour tour and tasting. As to cost, I cannot imagine that they would charge for your children, unless they can drink their 2 glasses of wine! 😁😂😂 If they did charge, be sure to get your kids’ booze for yourself!!!!!
