Best wine tasting experience on our trip
Oct 2019 • Couples
A must stop if you are within driving distance. We came over an hour from our hotel and it was worth it. Great experience with our guide, we tasted great wine and shipped some back home. Will certainly be contacting them in the future to ship more. Worth the trip.

A premium wine-tasting experience. Relax and enjoy.
Sep 2019
We two visited here at the recommendation of our agriturismo host (Agriturismo I Roseti). Our host (Gianni) called the winery owner to make an appointment for us.

Best wine-tasting we have experienced; we learned a lot and had fun. Two other people joined our session, for a total of four. The gentleman who guided us clearly has a passion for wine and for Uccelliera, having made a career change to join the winery. (I wish I could recall his name; he was wonderful and was much more than simply a guide for the winery.) During the tour he introduced us to Andrea, the owner of the winery.

Over the course of 60 to 90 minutes we sampled 11 wines, including 2 or 3 straight from large barrels. Our guide skillfully explained the nuances of the different wines, their terroirs, their vintages, the traits of the Sangiovese grape relative to the local terroir, and more. He also described the history of the winery, and fully and directly answered our diverse questions.

Very professional operation. Tips were not accepted. Cost of tasting was 15 Euros - worth every centime. The tasting also included bread with delicious olive oil.

The winery grounds are very pretty. We used (off-line) Google Maps to guide us there. The final hundred or so yards are a non-paved narrow road that leads to a few stone buildings. We saw no one when we drove up so thought we might have made a navigation error. Then the wife of the owner came out and greeted us, guiding us to the right location. Very pleasant conversation.

TIP: Cellphone coverage is spotty, so if using a mobile navigation app one is advised to download an off-line map of the area.

Amazing winery - an absolute "must visit"
Jun 2019 • Couples
With one of my absolute favourite wines being Brunello, my wife and I couldnt visit Tuscany without visiting Montalciino. What an amazing place but that's another review.

It was difficult to know where to begin with choosing a winery to visit and in the end we just called a few on the phone at lunchtime with a view to visiting later in the afternoon. That was not the best policy as most wineries can't accommodate off the cuff visits and educational tours. One that did was Uccelliera. It's off the beaten track and not the easiest place to find but so worthwhile the effort.

Guiseppe was our guide and there was nothing he didnt know about the winery and the wine and who was also very knowledgable about wine in general. I lost count of the number of wines we tasted, it was at least 12, the first 4-6 from out of the barrel from the various stages of production and then at least 6 from the bottle. Some were still ageing, not yet on the market, others were good for laying down and others ready to drink now. The tasting consisted of Brunello, Rossi and a cracking Super Tuscan ...the "Rapace".

We were there for around two and a half hours and and the cost of the visit was a mere €15 pp which I believe to be at the low end of the scale when it comes to winery visits in that area.

For anyone looking to visit a Montalcino winery you will not be disappointed with Uccelliera. Super hospitality and super wine, we can't recommend highly enough.

Finally we can't finish without mentioning the excellent Olive Oil produced here. Has to rank as one of the finest we've tasted.

This winery is a real gem in the heart of Brunello country and our visit will stay in our memories for many years to come.

Great experience, even better wine!
Oct 2018 • Couples
This was one of our favorite wineries that we have visited in Tuscany. It is smaller and family owned, which my husband and I prefer. Agnes, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and informative, and we had a chance to meet the owners (and their dog!) - very nice people who obviously take great pride in what they do. It was a wonderful experience, and to top it off, their Brunello is excellent - we highly recommend it!

A highlight of our trip to Italy!
Aug 2018
Uccelliera was recommended to us by one of the sommeliers from the world famous Michelin starred restaurant “Del Posto”. After the sommelier raved about it extensively we knew we had to pay them a visit. Our visit took place about 5 days ago where we took part in a tour and tasting. Paola was our guide throughout the experience. She explained all of the wines, wine making process, and history of the winery passionately and in great detail. Andrea (the owner and winemaker himself) was also present and introduced himself. Paola and Andrea’s passion for the wine and olive oil that they produce was remarkable and something to be admired. This is not your typical visit to a winery by any means. We not only tried the finish bottled product of each wine but also had the opportunity to taste wines right out of the barrels in various stages of maturity and from vines located at different elevation levels. This was one of the highlights of the tasting.

Uccelliera is recognized as one of the top Brunello producers year of year by every wine publication possible and operates out a very humble and very beautiful location situated in a nearly perfect terroir for the region.

Andrea and Paola we thank you again for the amazing experience and for being not only one of our highlights for our visit to Montalcino but for being a highlight of our entire trip to Italy and treating us like family.

Grazie mille!!!

P.S. in addition to wine they produce what may be the best olive oil we have ever had! :)

Great winery
Jul 2018 • Couples
Amazing family run winery. We had the pleasure to meet Andrea, the owner, today and whilst not having pre-booked or reserved we were invited in for a wine tasting. Uccelliera have amazing wines and we particularly enjoyed the Rosso di Montalcino, the amazing Brunello and the very balanced Brunello Riserva a well as the Rapace which is a Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon mix. We also bought some olive oil and grappa. Many thanks again and highly recommended!

Excellent Brunellos
Apr 2018
We are not a big fan of paying money to sample wines and do tour- been there, done that touristy things! Our main goal for Tuscany trip was to taste and buy good wines so we did some research online and called few places and came upon to this place. We were just driving by Montalcino and stopped by without the appointment and just rang the bell.
The owners greeted us ( we were lucky) and the wife of the owner ( I believe Mrs. Cortonesi ?) led us to the tasting cellar. We did taste about 10 samples and bought 12 bottles( I regret that I should’ve bought more) Their specialty is Brunello of course, but Rosso and Super tuscan was sooo good so I had to buy few bottles of them also. Our host was very generous and gave us sample to taste their vintage 2007 Brunello which blew our taste buds; this is by far our favorite Brunello! I am thinking about ordering this in the future for special occasion/gifts.
My advice to serious wine lovers - buy their 2007 Brunello. You won’t regret it.

Our best winery visit
Oct 2017 • Friends
We are a wine group of 5 couples from the US who spent a week in Tuscany. We visited several wineries but Uccelleria was so outstanding, by far our favorite. The wine is excellent. But what made our visit extra-special was what felt like VIP treatment in this small, family-run winery. Agnes, our host, was so helpful, warm, and informative. We loved every minute and lingered a little at the end. We met family members along the way and communicated the best we could with the language barrier. Our group is so glad that we were able to visit this winery.

Highly recommended for Brunello lovers
Sep 2017 • Couples
Of the four wineries that we visited in Montalcino, this was our favorite. Agnes gave us such a warm, informative, and fun tour. There was such great attention to detail, she even had the actual grapes for us to taste! She offered us barrel tastings in the cellar, which we love. Pours were generous with lots of details and background about each one. This winery seems so humble and appreciative of their customers. Loved that it was not a big winery but a small family owned farm. At the end, we bought some bottles to take home which were much more affordable than we could ever find back in the States!

One of our favorite wines! Incredible tour!
Sep 2017 • Couples
We fell in love with Uccelliera wines in 2016 on our annual visit to Montalcino. This year, we decided to visit Uccelliera for a tour and tasting. We are so pleased that we did!

We were greeted by the owner and then led on a tour and tasting by the wonderful Agnes. We had such an enjoyable time listening to their methodologies and philosophies on winemaking, and we commend this winery for being so generous with their samplings, which amounted to nearly a dozen or so! Quite impressive!

This is a small, family-owned Winery that has built its solid reputation on quality. One of the world's consistently highest ranked Brunellos, visitors will delight in this off-the-beaten-path taste of luxury and elegance. We look forward to returning next year!
