We visited Italy for a month shortly after covid restrictions were lifted. During two weeks in Tuscany, Casato Prime Donne stood out as our favorite winery, both because of the excellent tour and because of the fantastic wines.
Our tour guide, Antonella, was a wealth of knowledge - not just about the wine, but also local history. This was easily the most in-depth and entertaining tour of the dozen or so we took during the trip. I'll save the details for Antonella to describe to you, but Prime Donne's entire philosophy and culture is unique and it shows in the quality of the wines produced. We enjoyed the Brunellos so much we shipped several cases home, and look forward to enjoying them in the coming years.

My wife and I visited while on our Honeymoon in May 2022. Antonella was an amazing host at Donatella Cinelli Colombini's Casato Prime Donne. She was very flexible with scheduling our visit with great communication. Once we arrived our tour and tasting was very informative on the history of the winery and the region as well. We were able to sample multiple vintages of Brunello to taste the differences that vintage and aging can impart to the wine. We thoroughly enjoyed the wines and bought a case of wine to enjoy at home that Antonella shipped direct to our doorstep which was extremely convenient. We would highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area!

We spent a lovely afternoon here learning about wine, the region and this unique female owned vineyard. The wine is amazing and we could not wait for our order to arrive so we could share with family and friends. This is not your run of the mill tourist stop - this is a true experience with incredible people. A must stop to add to your itinerary.

My group of 50 had planned to visit Casato Prime Donne when the pandemic hit. Two years later, 14 of us finally made it to this wonderful gem of a winery. Antonella was over the top flexible with us customizing a lunch, tour, and tasting experience and changing the dates over and over again. When our bus driver got Covid and we were hours late, she still accommodated us yet again.
The lunch was amazing, the tour very educational and interesting, the setting and artwork lovely, and the Tuscan landscape stunning. And the wine, of course, is incredible. A wonderful afternoon!

We went back to this winery with friends on our last visit to Tuscany to share the lovely wines and the expert tour conducted by Antonella. This wine adventure is more than just a tasting, it is a history lesson conducted in an important Montalcino producer's winery in a beautiful setting. We returned to see how the wines had fared and were not surprised that many wines over the last ten years were rated at the top of Wine Spectator's list. We had some shipped home and plan on savoring them until our next opportunity to visit!

Casato Prime Donne in the Montalcino region of Italy is a Brunello winery. My husband and I visited with a tour group (Go Ahead Tours) on a special "Wine and Flavors of Tuscany and Umbria" tour that took us to 6 towns and 3 wineries.
Our guide was passionate about the history and quality of the winery, and we learned about the Sangiovese grapes and the unique conditions of the region that make this wine so special. We enjoyed a wonderful meal paired with delicious wines in the charming tasting room at Casato Prime Donne. Then our group lined up to buy a few bottles to take home!
Here are a few photos from the winery and the Montalcino region:

Last year, after trying one of their 2010 BdMs, I was determined to visit the vineyard for a tour and tasting. One year later, we made the trek from Germany to visit the region to include Casato Prime Donne.
The website was helpful and informative. Antonella quickly responded to my inquiry and recommended the Wine and History tour for our group.
Unfortunately, traffic was horrible through Switzerland’s Gotthard Tunnel and Northern Italy so we missed our original appointment. However, Antonella was very patient and graciously waited for our arrival.
Upon our arrival (almost three hours late), Antonella warmly greeted us and provided us an opportunity to freshen up before the tour.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and wine tasting. I’m so thankful that Antonella waited for our group.
This vineyard is distinctive in being woman owned and managed. The owner, Donatella, promotes culture and the art as exhibited by the art displays throughout the property to include the cellar. Also, she is a supporter of women leaders in all industries. It was truly an honor and pleasure to have visited Casato Prime Donne.
Thank you Antonella for your hospitality. So sorry about buying so much wine but we know your team will make more. :-)

It was for me a real pleasure, this job allows one to meet many wonderful people. You and your friends are among those, and you become our friends through sharing the same phylosophy, and of course the same love of good wines. No worries store is being replenished today!!! We hopefully will meet again soon!!! Antonella

I booked a tour and lunch at this winery three weeks before arriving for my group, 7 adults and two small children. We were looking forward to an nice (light) lunch and wine tour. Upon arrival, I discovered that we were not expected (despite previous correspondence). Eventually we were offered a "small tasting" which consisted of two wines, one of which was "sold out". We asked for bread or crackers since we had not eaten but were told "no". We had to ask to sample the olive oil made on the premises and were able to taste it. It was the highlight of the wine tasting. Overall a disappointing experience.

What a shame, Pamela, I am really sorry you missed the experience you were expecting and looking forward to. As you can see appart from your review the others appreciate what we have to offer. I think the problem arose with you not answering several of our emails asking for credit card details to book the appoinment for you. After our last try on July 29th we stopped holding the date for you. Your email 20 minutes before arrival time saying you were on your way might have been your way of cofirming but for us was far too late. What is funny is that you were replying to my email asking for cc details. So you had received my emails! I aWe are m sorry I ws not present, I might have been able to expalin better to you the reason for your not being expected. I am however not at all in agreement with your desire to palce such a review (and you might consider removing it) as the responsability for your dissapointmet is not ours. As I said, shame things did not go the right way.

I can join to previous reviews and confirm all the good mentioned things. The nature, fields, grapes, the hospitality of the hosts and the WINE - it was one of the best things that day. Antonella loves wine, Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino and she is very successful in sharing her love. Thank you!
