A Legend in Their Own Mind
Aug 2018 • Family
Biondi Santi is without doubt a legend, but with the death of the old man and his son no longer wanting anything to do with the place it has been sold and when we visited everything was mysteriously "cash only", so bring a roll of hundred euros notes if you want to buy anything at the end of the tour.

The tour guide was hugely rude and unfriendly and behaved as if we were quite lucky to have paid 120 euros each (again, cash advance by wire transfer only). The place has little parking, no air conditioning, and looks like a like it has been neglected for a decade or more. Felt like the place was taking cash only for a very particular reason. wink wink.

None of the wines tasted were available for sale. No back vintages or large format bottles for sale. Looked forward to the visit for years, and it was a huge let down.

By contrast, Il Poggione just down on the other side of the hill has a beautiful new tasting room, friendly, attractive staff, and they literally spent hours showing us around. And they take credit cards!

Classic wines in a classic setting
Oct 2017
It was a true pleasure to visit the famous Biondi Santi and taste the world renowned wines under the tutelage of a meticulous and informative guide. The setting of the winery is spectacular and the commitment to excellence obviously continues under the reconfigured ownership.

The ultimate wine experience
Jul 2017 • Friends
Santi was the farther of Brunello. Eventually his daughter married a Biondi and hence the name Biondi Santi was born. What is unique is that they have there own clone, which nobody else may plant. The clone is BBS11 and was chosen from 44 clones. The total plantation is 25ha as the cellar can not handle more. Dr Franco's wife at the age of 90 still resides in the house. The wines are an experience and are so structured that they will give the drinker sastisfaction for many decades. Older vintages are sold, the 1955 sells at €9000. A delightful highlight on our week in Tuscany. What an honor to be able to participate.

Don't go there
Jul 2017 • Family
The winery settled at Montalcino hills is not easy to be reached, mobile phones hardly work and if you end up being late for your appointment because of that you will be left hopeless. That is what happened to me this past July. We were in a party of six hauled by an Italian driver that got lost so we were there 20 minutes late. We could not join the one-hour tour for what we have paid, there were no other tours avaliable for the next 10 days, not even a glass of water was offered, and no refund. A rather insensible hostess kept saying that that was the company's police.
Make no mistake and choose Antinori instead and you will get a warm welcome and a true Montalcino hospitality experience.

Something is up, not sure
Jun 2017
We chose this winery as we thought it was one of the top spots in the region. They required that we purchase in advance a $1000 bottle of wine or greater in order to visit and have a tasting. We were unimpressed with the tour and level of sophistication being applied currently to the wine process. The wines we were offered to taste were not available for sale. For some reason as well the CC machine was not working because as we were told, the electricity had gone out earlier. But it was fully on when we were there, did not make sense. and then we were told, they could not ship wines "at this time". so we felt obligated to buy an additional two bottles, pay cash, and carry them with us. all in all, a bad experience, expensive, and not worth the time, money or effort. after leaving, my feeling was, something is just not right at the facility.

I am sorry to leave with a bad impression.

Spectacular Brunello wine in a beautiful tasting room
Oct 2016
We stopped at this small, highly rated vineyard and were not disappointed. Our host, Yana, provided an extensive history of the family, the vineyard and the wines. Definitely worth the easy 5 min drive from Montalcino. Call ahead to ensure your tasting.

Not really worth the visit in the Fall.
Sep 2016 • Couples
The estate is nice but not overly special and it is in a beautiful location. Sabini, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. BUT given you cannot visit the entire estate during harvest, it is really not worth the drive or the €15 for the tasting. If you've read about Biondi-Santi and really want to see it, I would suggest going at another time of year. Regarding the tasting itself, like many big producers, they never open their top stuff to taste.

It was a great drive just to get to the villa. The staff who gave the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was interesting and the tasting was the best part :). Definitely worth the drive and visit!

A pleasant wine tour spoiled at the end
Jul 2016 • Family
The estate is very pretty from moment you drive off the main road from Montalcino through the lovely tree-lined drive. Don't expect a place geared around tourism - this is a wine estate producing some very fine wine. Until we found the small office we weren't even sure that we had come to the right place.

Please remember to book ahead - this is a place where if you turn up on the day you are likely to be disappointed.

The tour was nicely conducted by a friendly lady who gave an interesting mixture of the history of the estate and Montalcino wine. When talking about the process of producing the wine it was nicely pitched for the group (about 15 people) to avoid being too technical or too basic.

At the end of the tour there was a tasting of three of the wines starting the basic Rosso, then the Sassoalloro (produced in a different location) and finally the Annata (vintage) red; (unsurprisingly, given its price, the Riserva was not included in the tasting).

The cost of the tasting was €15 per person but this was not charged for those not tasting the wines. At the conclusion of the tasting a price list was passed round and we were offered the opportunity to buy any of the wines produced by the estate and this was where, in my view, the estate gets it wrong:

The cost of the wine at the estate (which you might, as I did, assume would be cheaper than elsewhere) was significantly more than I later found for the same wines at the supermarket close to where we were staying in Tuscany. I think that this was very disappointing and greedy - especially since they charge a fee for the tasting.

The wine is great, the setting of the winery is lovely, however the service was really bad. I am not sure I will visit again.
