    A lovely afternoon in Montalcino
There we were in Chianti, at a little cooking class. We had finished the class portion and were enjoying a nice meal of our hard work when we mentioned to a fellow student how we were planning on heading to Montalcino next, and he absolutely insisted we have a Brunello once we got there! Later that night at dinner, we were browsing the wine list and chose, without any prior experience, Casanova di Neri's 2017 Brunello di Montalcino. It was possibly one of the best wines we'd ever had and absolutely made the meal. Fast forward a few days, and we're driving through Montalcino on our way back from Pienza and by total luck we drive right past the Casanova di Neri winery itself! We naturally doubled back onto the beautiful property. We walked into the tasting room just as Simona, our eventual pourer for the afternoon, was wrapping up with another group. What transpired was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. Simona wove a lovely tapestry of the history of the winery, helping us intimately understand not only its roots but the personalities and ambitions of its founding family. We tasted: - 2017 Brunello di Montalcino (our favorite) - 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuto Nuova - 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto The pours were fairly generous, but not as generous as the service. With such a celebrated winery, you'd generally expect that they don't treat every guest like family, but Simona wasn't your typical pourer. When she brought up their vaunted 2018 Pietradonice after regaling us with a story of the vineyard that produced, an onyx quarry that most others thought would not be suitable, she slyly offered us a taste when our eyes lit up, even though it was not part of the tasting menu. Our experience at Casanova di Neri was pretty magical, and while the wine was terrific, a lot of credit needs to go to Simona herself.

    Special Wine Tasting
My wife and I booked the private grand cru wine tasting and it was my top 1-2 things we did our entire week long trip to Tuscany. The tour was fabulous and we happened to be there on the first day of the harvest. We met the entire family all going through the grapes at the dividing machine, Giacomo the owner greeted my wife and I personally. We had a quick chat and he offered us to taste grapes that had just been brought in. After our tour we had a private room overlooking the vineyard with cheese and bread to pair with our wine. It was a special experience I will not soon forget and hope to return one day. The 2016 Brunello Cerretalto was one of the best wines I've tasted in my life.

    Worth it!
As a white wine drinker, I have to say that Casanova di Neri offered exceptional quality of wine with thorough details provided by the staff. We were lucky to have Simona as our tasting expert. She was kind, clever, and even helped us navigate resturant options for the next few days. My husband purchased a case of a variety of Brunello blends. He's the red drinker. We arrived by car, and word of advice, the tasting area is the first building (structure) upon entry through the gates. We accidentally arrived at the hotel or rental villas. The development of the smell and taste were quite unique. I am excited for the shipment to arrive in a few months! Thank you Simona for your courtesy and hospitality!!

We returned to this elegant and beautiful estate after a great visit last year. Borjana was our host for both visits, and her knowledge and passion made our tastings very rewarding. This year, she guided us through a delicious and fascinating vertical tasting of the vineyard’s Tenuto Nuovo wines, a must-try if you love the wines of this region. Prices are high but worth it. We’ll be back next year!

This is one of our favorite Brunello wines and we wanted to privately tour the winery and taste the various wines. The tour was excellent and the tasting was great. Highly recommended!

BIZARRE!!
I've been struggling with writing this review since we arrived home.
After reading about this winery/family in Wine Spectator numerous times, I was so..excited to visit. Our tasting experience was amazing, a very kind team member helped us. We purchased a case to ship and tipped her well.

What came next was something out of the Chevy Chase European Vacation Movie. In the winery parking lot, they have LARGE terra cotta pots used as flower planters. I leaned against one, perched on a small slop while tying my shoe and knocked it over. The top rim holding the flowers broke and a piece chipped off. I was mortified!! Being responsible travelers- my husband and I went inside to let our tasting agent know what happened. She said, no problem, she would handle it and wished us well.. As we exited the building and were crossing the lawn back to our car- two another women came out of the building RANTING in italian. I recognized one immediately- the owners wife. The other- an employee was translating into English
Things went down hill fast. The owners wife- still ranting in Italian (funny I've seen her on TV speaking English) was saying the pot I damaged was $800 Euro and we need to pay for it. At this point there were 4 other employees standing around looking sheepish and embarrassed. My husband and I were stunned!! Not wanting to cause a scene and wanting to be respectful we said cancel the wine order and use the Credit Card payment to replace the pot. NO she was still ranting in Italian. That could NOT be done. She wanted CASH!! Now, we are a bit scared. Between my husband, myself and the couple we were with we pulling together 500 Euro. She accepted this. NO receipt was given. Hope she remembers to report this income to the Italian government.

We are seasoned travels...Turkey to Mexico and everywhere in between. Never an experience like this. I'm still wondering why someone that is featured with Giadia and Bobby needs to stalk customers out of 500 Euro or why someone has 800 Euro pots in a parking lot? Guess those are "Midwest Mom" questions never to be answered. Excellent wine, kind employees. Questionable Ethics of ownership.
Epic Fail.....

As an experience, this was by far the worst on our whole trip to Italy. In fact the worst winery visit we've ever done. We emailed ahead and were told to just come by and walk in. The tasting room itself is nice, and they had us stand at the bar area. The full tasting with their Brunello is 75 euros a person, and they give you crackers. We felt extremely rushed and were offered minimal commentary/information about each wine. Total time just ~20 minutes. Meanwhile the other wineries we visited were not only less expensive, but included extensive tours/charcuterie boards or even a lunch/phenomenal service with deep insights and extremely personable/friendly staff. We picked Casanova di Neri based on their wine reviews - and the wine itself was indeed very good. However we hope that this review is useful to others... would HIGHLY recommend you pick up a bottle of the wine from this winery at a restaurant/store, and spend your time visiting other wineries as there are some truly phenomenal experiences offered nearby.

A must do when in Tuscany. Beautiful scenic location, very professional staff, great food and superior wines! What else does one need to enjoy the Best that Tuscany has to offer? In my case, unfortunately time was limiting and so had to take a shorter tour, quick tasting (an hour or so) and of course, buy some wines for shipping. I left with great satisfaction, desire to come back and a shipment of a great collection that just arrived. I specifically complement the hospitality team led by Ms Borjana Bosnjak, who did an amazing job of keeping track of my order and making sure that it was delivered as promised. A big Thank you to the winery team .. looking forward to enjoying the wines over the holidays and hopefully visiting them again - hopefully on a more relaxed manner.
