During our recent online cooking class with Locanda Demetra (Marta and Allesandro) we broke out a few bottles of our favorite Brunellos - all, of course, from Castello Romitorio! On several trips to the winery Daniele and staff have always been gracious and inviting, making it a favorite place to visit each time we travel to Tuscany. We thank Noemi for the introduction!! We have airline tickets to return in Sept and remain hopeful that conditions will allow the trip. For now, we hope and pray that the great folks at Romitorio are safe, healthy, surviving this tough time. And THANKS for the fantastic wine we continue to enjoy at home!

I discovered Castello Romitorio on an Italian wine awards site. I was overwhelmed at all of the vineyards in the area at first but after reviewing several vineyards, I simply emailed Daniele for a reservation. daniele@castelloromitorio.com. Daniele offered a tour, tasting and light lunch which we are still talking about. All fresh. So good!

Since my wife set up the rest of the trip across Italy, the wine tour was my job. I only had half a day to work with so I had to get it right. My wife and her mom and sister were really impressed. Castello Romitorio is half art gallery, half vineyard which really elevates the experience beyond just a vineyard. Sculpture adorns the grounds and the production areas and provides the lagniappe of the marriage of fine wines and fine art. Castello Romitorio will simply provide you with several very special hours that you will cherish. The views are to die for. http://www.castelloromitorio.com

My wife, very much wanting to sample brunello di Montalcino, found Castello Romitorio and convinced me we should hit the road early en route to Montepulciano to pay a visit. Granted, we had no appointment and limited directions on how to find this winery (visitors be warned, it is off the beaten path and a bit difficult to locate). After the frustration of being lost, we finally found Castello Romitorio and were greeted by a very nice representative. Unfortunately, he informed us that he had an upcoming appointment with another couple and that we would not have the opportunity to taste the wine or really see the property. He did, however, welcome us to walk around the perimeter of the castle home and enjoy the view - a truly gorgeous property!

On our way back to the car I suggested to my wife we just purchase a bottle so that we could at least enjoy some brunello. Upon inquiring, the representative informed us that he would not be willing to sell us a bottle without having us first taste the product - he would be ashamed if he sold a bottle to us and we did not end up enjoying it (talk about pride!!!). That is when he suddenly flipped my wife's frown upside down and invited us in to sample a glass. His appointment was running a bit late and instead of leaving us to find our way to our next stop, he created a magic moment and made our day.

One side note - the owner of the property is also a well known artist - there is plenty of sculpture and art on the property to explore as well as the wine!

If you too find yourself wanting to sample brunello di Montalcino, I recommend making an appointment at Castello Romitorio, get a little bit lost en route, and enjoy a fantastic glass of wine at a gorgeous property!

HOME RUN! The Director, Danielle, was our host. INCREDIBLE private tour (just us) of this gorgeous winery. Part art gallery, part winery. We were fortunate to meet the wine maker (he happened to be outside trimming the hedges). Toured the restored 12th century farm house and fortress. Incredible. Very small winery, but unbeliveably unique with high quality Brunello. The labels are a work of art. Had an incredible private lunch with wine pairing for just the 2 of us in their dining room....cooked by the wine maker's mother. Would definitely go back. Castello Romitorio is a historic site that must be seen. Absolutely unique and beautiful place. The patient, educational, and enjoyable tour provided by Danielle is not to be missed.

We visited a total of 19 Brunello wineries in 7 days on this recent trip. I had emailed Daniele a few months in advance to arrange a tour and a "lite lunch". Well, the tour was spectacular. The grounds are simply gorgeous. The beautiful former fortress/monestary is well preserved. Daniele was an incredible host. He gave my nephew and me a wonderful tour of the main house and all of the historic artifacts and artwork. Frankly, I was not expecting that. While we were there, we saw a man trimming hedges. It was no gardener...but none other than the wine maker
himself! Momma prepared an unbelievable lunch for us paired with several vintages...including 1 or 2 surprises. This was no "lite lunch"....multiple courses complete with pasta, meats, cheeses, salad and desserts. Those of you that are fans of art...keep in mind this is part winery and part art gallery....it is GORGEOUS and not to be missed. Of the 19 I visited, this was definitely top 3!

We had the privilege of visiting Castello Romitorio with our children and my parents last summer - what a magical, wonderful, place. The wine is spectacular and the food was perfect. The setting couldn't be more amazing, and the privilege of seeing the art work of Sandro Chia on display around the vineyard and tasting room was magical.

We made reservations for wine tasting ahead via email which was easy with quick responses from Daniele. Found it easy and had nice private tour of the lovely winery and learnt even more then onto wonderful room for tastings. Super impressed by whole experience and they have some amazing wines so we ordered a case to be shipped back to us in USA and can't wait to try them again. Will certainly go back again next time we're in Montalcino.

We had such a memorable tour and tasting while visiting Castello Romitorio. Daniele welcomed us immediately and proceeded to introduce us to the historical grounds and castle, vines, barrel room, bottling facility, and then tasting room. We were grateful for and lucky to receive a private tour that was extremely educational and helped us understand the many facets of producing and selling Italian wine, particularly Brunello di Montalcino. The barrel room was so unique, with beautiful sculptures and artwork created by the vineyard's owner interspersed among the barrels. The tasting room experience was also unique in that Daniele introduced the vintages to us, then gave us 15 minutes or so to try the wines on our own and at our own pace. As first-timers to Italy, this was the absolute highlight of our 3 week visit. We highly recommend calling the winery in advance to see if they can provide a tour. We have since ordered a case of wine that was delivered timely without any complications. Should we be lucky enough to return to Italy, we will make sure to stop by Castello Romitorio once again.

We discovered Brunello Romitorio some time ago at a dinner in Siena and in spring last year used a weekend trip to Rome to escape for one day to pay Daniela a visit.

What an experience! The booked wine tasting was a culinary explosion of Tuscany delicatessen. All accompanied by different wines.

Of course we did the tour in the winery, too.

We left with a trunk full of cases and certainly will return !

Very personal and dedicated treatment by Daniele and Tullia.

A beautiful setting for an afternoon of wine tasting. This family run business will happily become your host for two hours, guiding you through their produce. Your time includes food, plenty of wine plus a tour of the vineyard and facilities. We were amateurs at wine tasting but they happily answered all sorts of questions and their personable manner put us as ease throughout. Their Brunello Di Montalcino enjoyed amongst the rolling Tuscan hills is a joy to behold. Stunning scenery with stunning wine. Last but not least, there was absolutely no pressure whatsoever to buy their produce. A great experience all round.
