About
Piombaia is a biodynamic family vineyard. Francesco Cantini, the current winemaker and last generation of Rossi-Cantini's four generations family winemakers, implemented biodynamics in the production of all our wines: Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino... The whole philosophy of vineyard production is based on biodynamics where the use of fertilizers, pesticides and industrial herbicides is avoided. Biodynamic agriculture uses vegetables and mineral preparations as additives in the soil, as well follows-up a calendar based on the movement of the stars and the lunar cycles, it's basically returning to the ancient knowledge of how wine was made at the beginning of time. Piombaia offers guided tours through the vineyard to learn more about our particular winemaking process and wine tastings. We also offer a 4 course meal-wine tasting accompanied by 3 or 4 wines including Brunello di Montalcino, all dishes are made with fresh products of our own agriculture.Reservation required

It was my first encounter with the tastings offered in the Montalcino area. The Piombaia farm reflects in every way the passion, love and care that have made these places and their food and wine products unique in the world.

Passed down for five generations, the Rossi-Cantini family's technique and dedication meets biodynamic philosophy to offer an unforgettable organoleptic experience.

From the visit to the cellar and the vineyard to the lunch with tasting, certainly one of the best choices for those seeking the true (proudly Tuscan) soul of these delicious wines.

Thank you Francesco, and not only for the enjoyment of the flavors and aromas, but also for the splendid day of company that you gave us.

Special mention to Maurizio, who made us die laughing!

Francesco was a personable guide around the wine cellar. We enjoyed hearing the history and the focus on harmony. We reserved the picnic which was an amazing experience. The 20 minute uphill walk was worth it for a memorable picnic with a breathtaking view of picturesque Tuscan hills. Delicious Sangiovese and Brunello wines, too. I would absolutely recommend this unique experience.

Our group of four booked a wine tasting lunch experience through Avventure Bellissime as part of our Tuscany day trip from Florence. Although the entire experience was fantastic, Piombaia stood out as the clear highlight. We loved learning about biodynamic farming and how it works, and our hostess, Angelica, was friendly, warm, and very knowledgeable about the process. Our table was set up under an enormous tree, and each course was more delightful than the last. Meats, cheeses, fresh olive tapenade and incredible bruschetta (the tomatoes were divine), fresh made pasta with incredibly fresh, delicious cherry tomato sauce, and a chocolate biscotti/cake that I only wish I could make myself. Best of all, the wines! Each one paired beautifully with our meal, and they were delightful, particularly the Brunello. You will want to ship a case home afterwards. The entire experience was so organic, not contrived, right down to the random roosters and chickens pecking around and the lovely Pablo, the giant white dog who graced us with his presence. Best. Day. EVER!

Visited the lovely Piombaia bio domain with a small group of 8. The tour was given by the winemaster himself and his passion, knowledge and enthousiasm were very much appreciated. This is a family owned operation producing mainly very high quality Brunello. We were also privy to a beautiful 3-course lunch along with the generous wine-tasting. Having the owner/winemaster with us made it even more special. The lovely and shy cook came to greet us and we all applauded her.
This visit was one of the highlights of my trip to Italy.

We had a lovely visit to this small organic winery, which included a delicious lunch with wine tastings for each course. It was enjoyable to sit at a gracious table looking out over the vineyard as we learned about the qualities of each wine and the biodynamic growing and aging processes. We ordered a half case to ship that came quickly and arrived safely and as ordered. The hostess was knowledgeable and very generous with her time.

It was a great afternoon visiting the vineyard, cellar and then the osteria the other side of the road for a great meal and talk with Francesco, the owner and winemaker

Was great to see how biodynamic agri and wine making work, and then have a filling meal while tasting different wines including Brunellos

It was a joy to combine that with a chat (turned into a very long personal discussion) with Francesco on the history of their winery, their journey to organic and biodynamic and his philosophy in winemaking. His views and passion of biodynamic practices as a sustainable and holistic approach were very refreshing

great food, wine and company (notable mention of the 2016 Brunello and the very red Rosato)

Looking forward to our next visit and sit together with Francesco

This winery was included as part of an all-day excursion that we booked through TA (Viator). We were disappointed with the first vineyard that we visited, but were blown away by our experience at Piombaia. The first vineyard had a "corporate" feel and it came through in their wines. At Piombaia, we felt - and tasted - the care that comes from a small, family run enterprise. Our group had a thorough tour of the vineyard and winery, followed by an excellent lunch featuring their wines. We ended up ordering a mixed half case for shipment home. We highly recommend a visit to Piombaia!

My sister had recommended this vineyard to us after she visited here several years ago. It turned out to be our favorite activity of our whole Italy trip! We visited the historic cellar and vineyard (separate from their kitchen/restaurant, just a sort drive away). We were greeted by Valentina, who then gave us a short but casual and educational tour of the vineyard and their cellar. It was right before harvest, so we were able to pluck some grapes off the vine and try them--so sweet! We then sat down at a gorgeous table overlooking the whole vineyard, where we had a four course paired meal. Most of the food was from their farm, and everything was delicious. We had the best bruschetta here, and the olive oil was just spectacular! But of course the main event was the wine, which also was spot on. We were surprised that we really enjoyed their Gato Negro, which (I think?) was one of their Rosso wines. And the Brunello was really wonderful. Also got to try the grappa. It was a lovely afternoon. We weren't rushed and got to really enjoy the beautiful view, delicious food and wine. We are recommending this place to several of our friends who will be visiting Tuscany in the next months! Don't miss this place!

We always try to go to Piombaia when we are in the area. We love going to their Cantina and learning about the way they make their wine and have a tasting. We normally try to have lunch there. Roberto, the father, has turned over most of the day-to-day operations to his sons but he is very present and active. They now do the lunch at the Agriturismo instead of the Cantina and it was very good.

Hello,

This wonderful farmhouse is tucked deep in the woods on the top of a hill.
This view is one to see. The hospitality is warm and friendly.
The food is delicious and wonderfully paired with the delicious wine.
The cozy dining room is open to a courtyard covered in vines over your head.
It is a gorgeous setting.
It was one our favorite experiences. The walk around the farmhouse is relaxing and beautiful. This meal was one of my favorites. We had 10 family members to include 2 children. I would consider driving to the farmhouse unless you are in great physical shape. The trail was a bit too challenging for my husband, myself and grandbabies. If you choose to take the trail to the house, wear appropriate shoes and clothes. I hope to return here to visit again. Thank you for an experience of a lifetime.
