About
The Castello Tricerchi wine Estate is situated on the northern side of Montalcino hill town. It extends for 400 hectares, 13 of which being covered with Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards. In the centre of the Estate stands the Castle, built in the 13th century by the Altesi family; in 1441 it was completed by the Tricerchi family, and today winery and home of their direct descendants, the Squarcia family. The vinification and aging cellar are where in the 15th century the Tricerchi family considered it to be the best place. Everything in this part of the castle is as it was 600 years ago and traditional methods have been conserved, even with the inevitable help of technology. Our work has driven by passion, valorizing the terroir in respect of our traditions. Necessary factors to produce a noble wine, like Brunello di Montalcino. Pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 1982, the Tricerchi Castle was declared an artistic and historical heritage of Italy

Castello Tricerchi is a winery in a very old building which used to be a castle. The building needs a lot of work. Several groups of people were combined into one large group (about 15 people) for tasting. In my opinion this was too many people. We toured the vineyard and tasted 3 brunello wines. The wines were okay. I think there are better wines at other wineries in the Montalcino area.

The guided tour of the winery was interesting and instructive but the degustation that followed was very disappointing. We were left on our own on a table with three different wines and a few pieces of bread and crackers. with no explanation. In our opinion, the wines were of very average quality

We came here on our fourth day in Tuscany for a wine tour and wow. Just driving up to the castle was incredible. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. Seeing the rows of grapes growing and the silhouette of the castle as we ventured up the hill was enough to make our trip worth it, but we were so floored by the amazing service we received right from the get go. Our tour guide found us at the door to the castle and offered us ice cold water. From there, we suddenly realised we were on a private tour and it was just the two of us! We got to head out to the fields and learn about the history of the family & the castle whereafter our guide took a photo for us. Then we got to see how they make the wine, see the aging process (right above the dungeon!), and finally enjoy 3 INCREDIBLE Montalcino wines for only €15! Our only regret is we wish we could have bought a couple bottles to bring home, but the logistics are a little difficult with 2 carry ons! Highly recommend!

My husband and I stayed in Montalcino and did a Brunello wine tour. We ended our day at Tricerchi and were blown away by their wines. It was during the week and at the end of the day, so we were the only group there. We had amazing service from our tasting guide and met the owner who was very nice. The rosso and brunello were outstanding. We bought a few bottles and actually returned ourselves the next day to buy more! Upon our return, the owner greeted us and remembered us. We can’t wait to return here on our next trip! Also, make sure you meet the dogs, especially Beebo!!!

Tommaso, the owner and winemaker at Castello Tricerchi, was a wonderful host- we had lunch in his dining room with him and our private sommelier. He is pretty new to winemaking, but is on the rise! Great Brunello and Rosso Montalcino, and will only get better. This is a lovely setting, and was a highlight of our vacation.

If you want a personal and enlightening tour of a small, family owned, 500 year old treasure, this is the place! It was surprising to receive such individualized and un-rushed attention. This was a real Montalcino experience.

We visited in October. After sampling in Montepulciano, south of Montalcino, north of Montalcino, as well as Chianti, we concluded that this was some of the worst wine in Tuscany.

Just not of the same caliber. Our thoughts were that wine was musty and dank. Their wine resembled their dungeon. A winery in name only .

The physical site is glorious. An ancient castle , towering over a hill, pilgrims and bicyclists and hikers climbing over the Tuscan hillside on the via Frangia, all are simply inspiring, but you can’t finish the samples.

We noticed the servers were doing their best on their summer vacations, but weren’t exactly professional or overly trained.

A beautiful stop to view the countryside, not worth the effort if you want to taste wine. Despite 17 generations of ownership, they don’t have the wine thing down.

Also, no food.

Dear Robert, I'm extremely sad to read your words and deeply sorry that you didn't appreciate our wines and our experience. I perfectly understand that is not possible to meet the taste of everybody and we gladly accept your opinion as a chance to improve. At the same time, I do not agree with the tones of the description, I find them generic and disrespectful towards the people who make every day the maximum effort for the best. I hope to have you with us once again soon for another chance to tasting together. Thank you in any case for your visit, my kindest regards Tommaso Squarcia

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our intimate wine tasting and tour at the historic castle that lies on a scenic hill in the area surrounding Montalcino. Upon arrival, we were greeted by two friendly dogs. A wonderful welcome! Not only was the tour and tasting extremely enjoyable and thorough, the property alone speaks for itself. In the family for many centuries, the villa is full with history from the Medici family crest to an original refrigerator (a hole dug deep into the ground). The wines were delicious. Would absolutely recommend to family and friends. Can't wait to return!

Just happened upon this little winery on our way to a fancier place up the road. We were greeted warmly and shared a tasting with 2 other couples that happened to be there. Great explanation of wines. The young owner lives in this castle with his grandfather. The young man is the 17th generation to live here and run this estate. Nice visit!

Wanted to visit a unique vineyard producing wine never tasted before and Castello Tricerchi hit the spot.
Had seen a previous review which also helped sway the decision especially when there was a nominal fee required compared to a lot free options.
Prior to the visit excellent communication with Tommaso to arrange.
It is nestled away from the town of Montalcino but worth searching it out. It has incredible views too.
My wife and I were met by Tommaso. A charming young man now running the family business.
We had about an hour and during that time he gave us a great tour and history of the castle and the wine production. It was very informed on the production of their wines.
With an impressive cellar.
As for the tasting...we tried three reds. Iulio, Rosso and Brunella. No rush on our part. No hard sell either but so good was the Rosso and Brunella that it was impossible not to order.
As a tasting it had everything and meant we had no need to go sampling elsewhere.
Definitely worth the effort.
