Set in the bay of Conca dei Marini, this awesomely beautiful cave is named for the color reflected in the water and offers many fascinating geological structures.

    Roberto & the Grotto
Excursion to the Fantastic Cave. Pleasant Amalfi/Conca dei Marino crossing, we were lucky enough to sail alone there and back.😍 Once we arrived in the Cave, the Sailor Roberto welcomed us into his raft, giving that extra touch to the beauty of the Cave. To visit .... especially with Roberto 😆🤣 The Grotto is like a natural swimming pool, beautiful and romantic.

    Meravigliosa!
If you are on the Amalfi coast this wonderful cave must be seen. A unique cave, with stalactites and stalagmites that rule over a body of water with unique colors. I recommend going there by boat so you can admire the Amalfi coast seen from the sea. Unique show. Highly recommended...

    Interesting small cave
It is an interesting cave with natural light at some points. When you enter, you board on a little boat and the guide drives you around explaining some things (he was quite funny) for about 20 minutes. It was definitely worth visiting. However, I think that it was quite pricey for what it actually offered.

A great sea excursion from Amalfi with spectacular views
It is reached by sea from Amalfi in a few minutes, while enjoying spectacular views of the coast from the sea, from Amalfi to Conca dei Marini and the grotto. The boat trip ticket includes entrance to the grotto by jumping the queue. It is visited in small groups by boat. The Guide Rower explains the pecularities of the grotto, the color of the water, the configurations of stalactites and stalagmites, the ceramic nativity scene located at the bottom. Just as spectacular is the skill of the seafarers who operate these boats, bring them closer to shore, and help travelers get in/out of the boat or even get off a boat in between. It is extremely entertaining to observe the skill with which they manage the boats. It is worth noting the professionalism with which they take care of travelers and inform them of what they see. A couple of refreshing (take us the first of the morning) and entertaining hours, which leave beautiful images in the memory.

    Truly Spectacular
It seemed that almost as soon as we docked at Amalfi and disembarked from the ferry we were back on another one. This smaller tour boat began heading west back along the coast toward Positano where we just had come from. It was a chartered tour boat with a couple of dozen passengers all heading to the Grotto dello Smeraldo, the Green Grotto. After a fairly short trip we entered the bay of Conca dei Marini, overlooked by an old square shaped watchtower built by the Spanish on a prominent point of land. Our tour boat pulls up along side another on a stone jetty at the base of a cliff and we all disembarked. We’re told we can leave backpacks and other bags aboard and after pulling out my DSLR leave mine with a bottle of water and a fresh t shirt. I do notice our guide from Alilauro Gru.So.N moves mine and my wife’s bag under the bench near him so he can keep an eye on them. A short walk along the jetty takes us to an narrow entrance in the cliff face. We all enter and are inside an immense cavern. Waiting our turn we line up and climb aboard small row boats. Once filled the row boat Each rowboat carried about a dozen passengers and a single boatman who acted as a guide. For some strange reason the two of us ended up in a boat full of Italian tourists and our guide spoke almost no English a fact he apologized for. Ironically as he rowed us about the grotto passing information in Italian and then trying to again in English, I could hear snatches of conversations from other boats, including English. There were about three boats making a circuit of the grotto and apparently with the exception of ours they were all filled with visitors based on a single language. Lack of language though was not a major concern. This is the sort of place where you really don’t need to hear about it, just look and take in the natural beauty. In total the slow boat ride around the grotto takes less than a half an hour. Aside from the water and its unique colour there are numerous stalactites and stalagmites to view. The Green Grotto is an underwater fissure that sunlight filters through. It is believed the cave was formed by tectonic upheaval and then later descended and allowed seawater to enter through an underwater outlet. The grotto derives its name from the colour of the water takes, a deep emerald, that comes from refracted sunlight through this entrance. There is no natural outlet above the waterline unlike that at the Blue Grotta in Capri. The present size of the grotto is approximately 45 metres by 32 metres with an estimated 24 metres in height above the water level. The absence of any visible opening meant that the grotto’s existence went unknown for centuries if not longer. It was discovered by a local fisherman in 1932. Once the tour was completed, we were rowed back to the dock and exited through another narrow opening onto the stone jetty to board the boat back to Amalfi.

So it was a nice experience to see it. It was very quick maybe 5-10 mins in total. Please remember to take cash if visiting. the card machine stopped working and there was a lady behind us that didn't have any cash and couldn't come in.

The Grotta was just next to our hotel so we were able to walk over to it. For five Euros you can't complain about it though it was pretty cheesy. If you are in there area it is worth dropping the five Euros to experience. However, if I made a special trip just to see the Grotta I would have been very disappointed.

So you get there, pay 5 euros and go down an elevator where self proclaimed El Capitan takes you on a 5 minute tour of the grotto. It's very underwhelming. We picked this over the blue grotto because it was cheaper and now we know why. Wouldn't visit again. I guess for seeing one time 5 euros isn't bad. Not sure why el Capitan asked for a tip at the end. He didn't really do anything.

Cave with internal visit in a small raft / boat with boatman who acts as a guide. Stunning colors and unique natural effects. I recommend visiting from 12 to 2 pm where the light enters the cave more. It's not cold inside... the only flaw is the pathetic boatmen who ask for tips

Bad experience. They charge you €45. Those who operate the mount boats even extend a hand to get into a boat that moves from one side to the other. My chest was hurt. I couldn't breathe. I paid to get ill-treated and they hurt me badly.

We waited for the shuttle, then to enter the cave, then for the return shuttle: total 1h15
We spent a maximum of 15 minutes in the cave.
And what a cave!!! It is tiny and of little geological interest.
There is indeed a blue glow in one corner.
As for the guide, his English was so bad that we barely understood him.
I recommend this visit to those who really have nothing else to do.

OMG What a waste. The light in the water is "emerald (smeraldo)" in 1 corner. So it would take like 3 minutes to paddle over there, take a picture, and leave. But to make it worth the trip, they paddle you around the cave (gotta) and show you rock formations. You know, this rock looks like this, and that rock looks like that, and OMG. Then they show you the nativity underwater. Probably put there so there would be something interesting to show you, besides the blue water.

But I must say, the shuttle boat ride to the hole in the wall, and back, is the best part! You are out on the sea, looking at the coast, with the wind in your hair, and the sun on your face.

We’ve had a nice visit and tour. After we left, I lost my wallet at the grotta. They all tried to call me and left a message to say that they had found my wallet. Very honest! Many thanks to Roberto Brangi and colleagues.

We went here from Amalfi via a boat. Was a tad too high in cost in my opinion, but was still fun to do.
Cave is really quiet and calm, except for the 3 boats going around and giving you some history about it. The water was SOO BLUE!!
Be aware that the boaters will ask for tips when you are done.

I didn't pay attention to the negative reviews on here and I regret doing so. The best part was the scenery on the boat trip over to and from the Grotto. When we got there we got packed into a small boat and the first thing the 'guide' said was "Don't forget to tip". The tour lasted 10 min of him singing at the top of his voice and attempting to flirt with 2 other tourists at the front. This ruined it for not only our boat but others who couldn't hear their tour guide because of this morons singing. The tour consisted of us going in a small circle which could be seen from the entrance. Inside was nothing special either, if you have been to any other caves then this was nothing in comparison. So in short, if you are at a loose end in Amalfi, do anything else bar this.
