As you walk up the main commercial street you will see it in front of you-turn right and you will see the castle of Rhodes-it is open in the mornings and of course it is a must in your visit -

One of the most interesting sights of the island, well maintained. You will certainly have to visit and remember the grandeur closely in conjunction with the great history .

Beautiful structure; built in the 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent after conquering Rhodes; and unlike most Mosques in Rhodes; it was originally constructed as a Mosque with very minor Churches parts.
Situated in the center of the Old Rhodes Town; you can see the Mosque and its prominent minaret from all corners; painted in rose color; and has a main dome and many smaller domes and a very high Minaret.
It is now used as a Museum. You have to make sure it is open during the day you intend to visit it.

This mosque was the first one built in Rhodes after the town was captured by the Ottomans in 1522. Most of the construction materials used came from buildings from an earlier period. The pillars of the outer Veranda belonged to a Christian church. The inscription above the main entrance reads May God protect him from all evil. May all those entering the site be safe. It gives its construction date and Hegira year 947”. Unfortunately, the interior is off-limits to visitors to the Medieval City.
It fell into disrepair and was repaired in 1808 when it gave the exterior plaster its rose-pink color.
Over the centuries, the minaret suffered severe decay until the Italian occupation of 1912 to 1943, when it was restored to its present glory.
As it is only a 3-min walk from the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes down Orfeo’s St past the clock tower, it is well worth seeing.
TIP: The opposite Islamic Hafiz Ahmed Agha Library has a collection of beautiful and interesting medieval manuscripts and Korans. Please tick the box below if you found this review helpful.

The fact that on this island there are Orthodox and Catholic Churches, as well as historic mosques serves in our view as the perfect example of how this island is bridging between the cultures. It is possible for everything and everyone to co-exist and here you see it in real life how it’s done

Built in 1522 (after the Ottoman conquest of Rhodes) and named by the Sultan Suleiman to commemorate his conquest of Rhodes.
This was the first mosque in the town of Rhodes but it was reconstructed in 1808.
It gives a certain atmosphere to the old Town.

The Suleman Mosque in Old Town Rhodes can only be seen from the outside, and it is in a bad state. There is no indication if it is or will ever be open.

The Mosque is quite an imposing building at the top of the main shopping street in Rhodes town, it looks like you would expect from a building of this nature, it is a shame that is appears closed, it should be restored and opened up as an attraction in Rhodes.

The Suleman Mosque stands proud within the Medieval Old Town of Rhodes and as much as the Mosque is a place of Worship for those of the religious persuasion that it represents, it’s also a great Landmark to guide you around the Old Towns plethora of Streets and Alleyways. The Mosque itself is a great reminder of the History of Rhodos Old Town and a symbol of the past meeting the future.
