Can't believe people are giving this such good marks! The temple is three columns covered in scaffolding. The stadium is not very impressive, compared to many other Roman ruins around Europe. The site is also very neglected/scruffy. If you have nothing better to do and need to get some steps in (as it's a 25 minute trek from the old town), then by all means go there, but prepare to be underwhelmed. There appear to be some entrance booths that have recently been constructed, suggesting entry may become payable in the future, in which case it definitely would not be worth visiting!

It is adjoining the Rhodes Acropolis and is an exciting bit of history. Difficult to believe it lasted thousands of years when you look at today's building quality which lasts less than your mortgage 😂🤣 You would say we could take the ancients as an example and do a better job than now.
Good to see when in Rhodes capital and a great addition to your day out.

We walked up from Rhodes new town. There were no signs etc to give you the history of the place. But we wandered around taking pictures and thought back about how life was back in its era. It is a fantastic place to visit for its history. At the top entrance it looks like a new entrance was being built at some point( maybe pay booths!!) but looks a little derelict now. Glad we went, but I don’t think I’d pay to visit. Unless things really changed. History boards. Bathroom facilities/ cafe etc. It’s just an abandoned piece of history at the minute. So much more should be done to preserve it.

We accidentally found the Ancient Stadium and were so glad we did. This place is so full of history and whilst it’s presentation is simple the stories those seats could tell! Just climbing up the stairwells and thinking about the atmosphere and those who had sat there hundreds of years earlier…just mind blowing. Being good tourists we did the audio tour and enjoyed it. We ran (okay, he ran and I look photos) around the track and stood on the winners podium, sat in the Royal seats and generally just loved it. The chant, Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, oi, oi! May not have been in the traditional history but we added it to current day!

Lots of reviews say not to bother but....
It’s great! You get to see how Ancient Greece would really have been- with modern Greece living in amongst this. There were joggers running round the stadium and friends chatting.
Ok there isn’t a restaurant and there aren’t many signs- but a bit of imagination goes a long way, especially when you think what this once was like!

After a long walk from Rhodes old town walls through suburbs uphill we passed through fields which included remnants of ancient columns and eventually to the stadium and open air lecture theatre.
It was long and low and reminded me of the horseshoe stadium in Nuremberg. Hitler actually modelled it (employing his friend Speer to design it) on a bigger Panathenaic Ancient Grecian one in Athens.
Some of the Italian renovations looked a bit over the top but the site is impressive nonetheless.

In my opinion the old Stadium is one of the best thing in Rhodes city till now. It’s about 200m long track that I think was used for chariot races, fights and other games.
The stadium is about 27min walk from the central bus station.
You would think it’s only archeaogical site but the place is much more than a site in fact it’s like a small community where people use it as place to relax where they drink coffee, talk to each other, have fun, even Training some people run around for 5 rounds or more. There daily training.
It’s in a nice location surrounded with trees and on a hill there is a very refreshing breeze.
Worth going to even if you don’t stay in Rhodes city.

Not worth the trek from the town, I love historic sites as much as the next person, but the acropolis is a dump. The amphitheater and Olympic track was ok, but you can do it all in about 20 minutes. Unless you really really really want to go to say you’ve been, don’t bother.

Situated in the Southeast of the Acropolis and dated 3rd Century BC.
It was excavated and restored by the Italians.
The 210m long stadium was used for the Haleion Games, held by the ancient Rhodians to honor the god Helios.

Can it be reached by walking from Rhodes Town?

HI we walked as we wanted to enjoy the sea views, it is quite a treck but we enjoy exploring. We are both in our 60's and I have mobility problems but would reccomend walking. You can also catch the open top bus and get on or off here, do check return times though. Enjoy your trip
