An amazingly in tact, beautiful building. They had an exhibition of ancient artefacts on when we were there, which were interesting, had descriptions in English, and were superbly well preserved given their extreme age.
We would have liked some sort of guide book, or something to explain more about the building itself - we ended up googling the building and finding out that way!
My ten year old ran around and wasn’t all that interested in the exhibition, but my 14 year old was enjoying all of it.
If you’re interested in other cultural sites in Rhodes there is a combination ticket, but we just did this one.
There are stairs, but unlike the acropolis at Lindos, they’re not terrifying!
The castle is right in old town, where you can easily spend a few hours mooching around shops - DaVinci gelato down near the square and fountain in old town do the most amazing gelato, milkshakes, crepes and waffles too!

What an amazing site! We bought the combo ticket which includes the palace, the archeological museum, the church of our Lady, and the decorative arts museum. Well worth the 10 euros! The palace opens at 8 and if you get there by 9 am it's pretty quiet. The curation is very basic and needs some updating, but overall this is a beautiful medieval site and you should definitely see it while on Rhodes.

Worth a visit (get the 10 euro combined ticket with the archaeological museum) but the lack of information is disappointing and the majority of the Palace was rebuilt in the 1930s by the Italians.
The focus of the Palace is on the mosaic floors, which whilst impressive were not part of the Palace and relaid here from properties in Kos, again by the Italians.
There is nothing, sadly, about the history of the Palace and its use by the Knights.

What an incredible place. Everywhere you look there are mosaics or parts of columns which are more than 2000 years old. The building itself dates back to 14th- 15th century and is impressive.
My children loved it as there’s plenty of space to run around (not that they were supposed to but they are very little!) so not too hard on them.
Also we recommend taking the combined ticket which is 10 euros and you can visit 3 more places in Rhodes on 3 consecutive days, a great deal!

Lovely architecture from the outside but rude staff completely ruined it! Constantly being watched over and followed and being made feel uncomfortable. There are some rooms upstairs that are not accessible and are roped off, however there was one that seemed to be open so me and my partner went in as a few others did and took pictures etc. Shortly after, a snotty, rude, middle aged blonde lady with crazy frizzy hair screamed at us “WHAT ARE YOU DOING” as it appears we weren’t welcome in the room. Clearly it had been unroped by staff for whatever reason and not been closed back off to stop people going in. She didn’t give us the time of day to explain what had happened, that it wasn’t our fault and it was open when we got there, just decided to scream at us. I appreciate it’s a huge part of history and there are things you want to be preserved but if they matter that much, staff need to be more vigilant and not spend so much time breathing down young travellers necks that aren’t a bother!! It’s not like we were touching everything, we were literally stood at the OPEN window taking photos of the view. There were other people that had been going in and out but just our luck it was us who got the wrath of this old lady. Ruined our day so we left. With some of these reviews and from what we saw today, the staff here are really rude and clearly don’t like foreigners coming to explore.

A beautiful building that is in fantastic condition. It can take some time to look around the entire castle as it is full of amazing items and some incredible mosaics. If you struggle with stairs you might have an issue on the upper level, but it’s worth the effort if you can. Entrance is €8 each, or for €10 you get a ticket which includes two other sites which are both short walks away. I’d allow at least an hour for each.

Walking along the wall is great for views of the city and different types of architecture.
It costs €3 per adult for a wall walk ticket.
You must take a mask with you in order to purchase tickets for the wall walk as the ticket booth is inside the palace. The staff in the ticket booth were telling people to wear masks (note: several staff having their own masks below their noses, so some consistency would be beneficial).

So we bought a multiple entry ticket for the palace and archaeological museum for 10 euros but felt that we were just revisiting an interior version of the same thing. It's starts at prehistory and goes up to the Knights time and then on to the twentieth century. Over all a very interesting building with a rich past. The mosaics seemed a bit too much, as they were laid in the twentieth century onto about half the floors of the 15/16 century palace rooms. This seemed a little bit of over kill as if they had no where else to house them after repatriating them from the island of Kos. Due to covid restrictions walking the palace walls was limited to a stretch of 2 kms long, ending at the Antoine gate, but one way only and no turning back. We decided not to embark in 32 degrees at 12 noon. Not very much detail about the lives of the Knights that lived there. I would have liked an audio guide, but in covid times it's understandable that this was not available to visitors. Masks were to be worn for all inside areas.

The bad news first: This is not really the hospitallers grand masters' palace from the medieval times. Most of the building was rebuilt in the begin of the 20th century by the Italians that reigned the island in this time, and not rebuilt to be like the original, but to look especially "powerful". Only part of the ground floor is from the medieval times, and most of this can't be visited.
Besides that: the visit was nice, it's not as hot inside as outside, the building cools a bit. There are some interesting parts.
But if you're only or mainly interested in medieval history, I would not recommend just to visit this palace. But: you can get a combination ticket, that also includes the walk on the walls, the old hospital (which is original from medieval times) that includes the archeological museum (the content is mainly from ancient greek civilisation, but the building and smaller parts of the content are medieval) and one of the medieval churches, so if you have the time, I'd recommend the combi ticket.

I don't know where to start.
I was so looking forward to visiting this amazing castle.
I love history and castles and was keen to learn more about the castle.
We arrived and the ticketing process was relatively seamless. However we entered the castle and looked at what can only be described as room after room of mosaics on the floor.
They were beautiful however, we must have entered around 15 rooms with similar mosaics. The signs describing the mosaics were less than informative and litrally described what the eye could see, rather than any actual history behind the mosaics.
This is a huge castle with so much history. There was not a single informative sign.
For the size of the place, this is a large tourist attraction and it is lacking in so many areas.
I unfortunately was very disappointed.
I don't understand why this isn't a better funded tourist attraction.

There are restrooms at the Palace but I only remember seeing them in one place. If you follow the suggested route you’ll be more than half way around before you find them.

1 Where can I buy tickets on line ahead of time? 2. If that's not an option, are there any skip the line options? 3. Once at palace can I buy audio self guide, or are there other options to educate me about what I am looking at? I am finding little info on line. Thanks

Website states the site is closed on Mondays. Our ship is in port Monday Nov.11, 2019. Is the palace open on that date?
Ship is offering tours so I’m assuming it’s open, but we prefer to DIY.
