3/5 the church is fine and apparently very special for a lot of people. For someone who has visited loads of churches around the world this one just doesn’t do it for me. The climb is fine but upon arrival the church was going under maintenance, so the ambiance was completely ruined. The priest was priesting away while we were there which was special.
Good lookout over Petra and a must visit if you are here but you shouldn’t expect too much.
Also there was no information anywhere (not on the route to church) but also not near the church about why it was so special. No information anywhere + loads of goats (which had their paws tied up so they wouldn’t run away) = 3/5 stars for us

Followed the trail around Petra Old Town and climbed the steps up to Panagia Glykofilousa to look over some fantastic views over Petra bay. The church itself is currently undergoing some internal restoration which looks quiet impressive. Take some water!

Beautiful church, with amazing architecture and beautiful murals! Incredible art! Combination of Byzantine and Renaissance! East and West in architecture and painting. A fusion of cultural influences received by the village and the island in general from the passage of conquerors of all origins. From Genuans to Ottomans. God of religion! The church dominates on the rock where you can admire from above the wonderful view of the village! One of the most beautiful villages of Lesvos and Greece! You can see from above the beauty of the sea, the vast green and the wonderful stone houses with the red roofs! And as for the ground almost everywhere stoned.

Incredibly beautiful little church on top of a rock in the middle of Petra. Impressive views both from the city and up, and from the church and down. The stairs are carved out into the cliff wall and around the cliff there are small houses. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice view from the church. It's good that the church is being restored. 👌The inside of the church is also beautiful. You can light a candle for a loved one you have lost.
It seems higher than it is, although most people are out of breath when you reach the top.

In my opinion, it is the top attraction of Petra. Well worth a visit, just make sure you wear comfortable shoes as there are a lot of steps. If you also have a bottle of water with you, you will definitely make your effort easier. The view from the church is unique. The church is beautiful. On the day of the Fifteenth of August, a festival is held and they serve kishkek (traditional Asia Minor food made from wheat, onions and mutton). If you are anywhere near there, don't miss it!!!

We have visited here several times when coming to Petra. This year was made more special as we have lost a few friends and wanted to light candles. The climb was difficult in places but the views are Amazing. I would advise people to do this early morning before it gets too hot and take water with you.

Definitely a must when you go to Petra. It is a structure that can be seen even from outside Petra. The view is wonderful. It is worth climbing the stairs up!

You can’t help but look at the beautiful church on the rocks as you approach Petra from road or sea. We made a special visit from Molyvos to climb the steps and visit the pretty church and courtyard. Lovely views from the top. Definitely worth seeking out if in the area.
