We took the bus from Fira to Perissa. As it was winter, we didn't take a dip. Enjoyed the view and the feel of the sand. And took a 10 minutes walk out to Santa Irini bakery. Love the goodies there.

We spent time here in September 2017. The beach had plenty of places to sit and access to cafes. We wore rock shoes as the sand and rocks are a bit rough. It was lovely being able to dine at restaurants right on the beach.

The black sand beach at Santorini is quite unique and very picturesque. There are decent shops and restaurants nearby. Altogether, it is worth visiting.

Perissa reached by bus ,car , Water Taxi from Kamari or walk over the hill from Kamari .(well worth the walk) A long stretch of beach with a few shops and tavernas , quieter than Kamari and worth a visit. From here carry on up...More

Only unique thing about this black sand beach is the black sand. Red beach will be better in term of scenery.

A pretty beach if you’ve time to spare but red beach is better if time is limited. Lots of beach seats but up to 5 euros each to use so unless you want to spend the day it’s not worth it. Some nice shops but...More

But if you are not into sun bathing (like me!) then it's just another beach, hence my score of 3 out of 5. It's billed as having 'black' sand and from afar (from Anciet Thera on top of the hill behind the town) it does...More

One of the best beaches on the island. What a beauty to see. Black pebble sand and crystal clear waters. I highly recommend this beach. The beach chairs and umbrellas are very affordable and the restaurants on the strip will serve you food and drinks...More

Certainly not the best beach in Santorin...sad, grey, old materials (matresses etc...) Nothing to compare with the stunning Red Beach !!

Of course it may be a totally different scenario in the height of the season but the black “sand” was great as it wasn’t sticky Not pestered too much except for offers of massage even though we were right by our hotels spa area Great...More

We didn’t rent a car because the bus is so easy to use. We went from Perissa Beach, to Fira and then to Oía, all with the bus and it was like 2-3 euros each way. Very easy and didn’t have to bother with driving

The boat trips are leaving from the port. Ususlly will have a transfer from your hotel or from a pick-up point, arranged by the travel office who sold you the boat trip.

I don’t think it’s walkable. Take a bus to a junction, there’s a walk to the lighthouse.

transport from the airport; taxi or hotel mini bus? (6 Replies)
I got a quote of 20 euros for pickup at the airport for transport to my hotel on Perissa Beach. Does anyone know what a taxi would charge approximately before I book with the hotel? It doesn't look that far, to me, on a map, but I'm new to Greek travel. Thanks!

A taxi will cost €25. The distance 'as the crow flies' is not as far as a taxi has to drive to reach Perissa. €20 is a very good price for an arranged private transfer.

Santorini (4 Replies)
We will be staying in Santorini in September. Is there any difference staying at Perissa Beach or Kamari Beach? Which location would be the best? I know Kamari Beach is much closer to the airport and smaller. We enjoy oceanfront restaurants and unique towns to wander around.

Neither Kamari nor Perissa are unique towns but from both resorts there are frequent buses to Fira where you can spend hours wandering around.

What I would do while on Naxos is schedule some beach time every day in the afternoon to cool off after sightseeing, and not schedule so many beach resorts for Day 3.
