Absolutely love this beach, visited this beach for full day on a few occasions during my holiday and it was great for swimming, snokerling, and sun loungers were lovely. Swim shoes are not essential (loads of people don't bother with them) but I found them great when walking on the hot sand so I didn't swim without them! Sun lounger prices vary between restaurants/cafes but we stuck to the loungers that were 10 euro each as long we ordered food and drink from the relevant restaurant.. Some can be up to 25 euro per lounger but skip those expensive ones and get a lounger which are free as long as you order a coffee /drink from the associated cafe/restaurant. Also, bathrooms available in the associated cafe linked to your sunbed 👍👍

Lovely, quiet beach with plenty of room to swim or sunbathe. As everyone has said, there are a lot of small restaurants and bars down by the beach. We took the bus from Fira (leaves every 20 minutes or so) which cost us 2,20 per person. Ride was about 30 minutes and they dropped us off right near the beach. We paid 10,00 for two chairs and an umbrella. Overall it was a great day!

Beautiful, calm water, gorgeous black sand beach but wear shoes. You absolutely can not walk on it barefoot - so hot! We went to Barkia beach restaurant and were able to get 4 free beach chairs with umbrella. If you sit on the front row, you pay 60 per set. Other sites on the beach had really nice umbrella set ups as well but require reservations. Forty One was recommended to us but we did not have a reservation and there were none beach chairs open.

Having been used to the dark sands when frequenting the Canary Isles this beach was as expected when visiting a beach with Black sand. The sand is very course and as expected in heat, Very Hot! As most state a pair of beach shoes or flip flops are needed when walking on the sand, it can be a challenge to see how quick you can run to the sea if not. The dry sand is deep and acts a little like quick sand so board walks have been put in places so you can reach the sand. Most of the beach bars offer sun beds and umbrellas (find a nice bar and there is no charge for the day) the staff serve you from your bed all day. Would definitely recommend the Perissa Bay bar.
Gaining entry to the sea is an experience, one in which we enjoyed but i can imagine for children or people with mobility issues this may be a challenge. The edge of the surf is made up of tiny stones so this definitely acts like quick sand and you are very much ankle deep upon stepping on it, this then pared with the waves means you've to either keep going or return to the beds. The rock bed along the waters edge varies from been walkable on and smooth to very rugged, you just need to enter with caution. We enjoyed spending time in the sea as for the most it is pleasantly still although you can feel the currents quite close to the edge, one moment you get a warm stream then followed by an icy blast.
We visited early July and the winds had just begun to pick up, a warm gentle breeze is nice but without warning you do get a blustery gust so its a case of hold onto what you can.
The beaches are clean and were didn't encounter litter at any stretch
If you go to the very end of the beach by 'the rock' there is disabled access into the water and it tends to be where the locals visit as its more sheltered by the rock face. Showers here too.
I would recommend if taking children you would need to be on sunbeds and definitely wear suitable foot wear

I've stayed in Perissa near the black beach and totally recommend visiting it, when your main focus is to relax, swim/ do some water sports (like stand-up paddling, jet ski, water skiing, parasailing, ...).

The water is turquois, the waves are strong, but not too bad and there are a lot of good restaurants and coffee houses next to the beach, which offer free use of the beach chairs (like for example "South Wind restaurant", where I've stayed most of the times).

The volcanic sand can become very hot around midday and the pebbles in the water are pretty big, but not too sharp. It definitely helps to bring some (swim)shoes.

For families: the waves could be maybe too strong for small kids and the water becomes deep quickly, so bring some swim help if needed.

Exploring Santorini: there's a direct bus from Perissa to Fira (capital of the island) every hour. Cost: 2,20€/way. From fira there are lots of buses that all major spots on the island.

We really enjoyed our afternoon at the beach. We came over from Imerovigli because I think it's important to see areas outside of their major tourists attractions because those alone don't usually give you a true sense of an area. Santorini is known for Oia, but it's so much more than just that. Loved that we could get chairs from the area restaurants to enjoy. And loved their little elastic straps on the chairs to hold the towels in place (we don't have those in the States as far as I have seen - included a picture), but other posters are correct in that black fine pebbly sand is HOT - wear water shoes or do the sand dance where you hop from shaded chair to shaded chair until you reach the water.

Note - we took a bus from Fira to get there, but got a taxi to take us back. Taxi is more expensive but not by much since we were a family of 4 and it takes less time than the bus.

Fun beach with lots of people. Water is very clear and protected, especially when coming from the North. We bought a few things in the local shops which provided a nice variety of local goods. We also thought the restaurants were lively with good food and service. We liked the fact they were right on the beach with servers and other staff waiting on patrons from their beach lounges. We had some great local fare with our teenage girls, whom both said they would go again. Local bus access was reasonably priced (<2 Euros PP).

Lovely really long clean beach. Plenty of room for everyone to sit, whether on organised chairs or on your towel. Refreshing water, crystal clear. Buy a face mask to see the rock formation or different fish. The restaurants/cafe bars are plenty with anything from breakfast to dinner.

This beach area seems loaded with small hotels and restaurants along the road next to the beach. Lounge chairs appear to be assigned to the specific hotel or restaurant. Sand is coarse and hot. The water is clear and cool. We typically left our sandals at waters edge or got a lounge close to the water. We had nice lazy days.

Beautiful beach
Make sure you take swimming shoes with you. You can’t blame the hotel for the beach and surroundings.
The people who offer massages offer a price to them it’s worth it daughter and I had a foot massage first one got me and it was very good.
