I am local and know everything about Crete. I have been there sometimes but I must say is nothing special. However if you are alone or if you want to "escape"for some time is good to visit it. Don't expect much. As I say... Just to escape for some time.

Really nice quiet beach. There is a small taverna nearby with drinks and food. The sun beds are free. The water is really nice for snorkeling and swimming.

Even though there's no sand, it's a really cozy place. On your way you'll pass the Afrata village which also have a really good tavern which I highly recommend.

Crystal clear water, away from Platanias. :-) water beautifully warm in the summer. Bring your spear gun for a free lunch....

we made approx 12 km long trip to the Afrata beach - just followed the road from Kolimbari (and hitchhiked partly) on the hill to Afrata village (few tavernas available) and down via small gorge to Afrata beach, tiny, clean, sun beds and umbrelas for free, warm and clear see and small beach bar serving perfect cretan salat. We visited... More

Loved this spot. Small, perfect. One cafe. Free umbrellas if available. Yes bathroom. No pressure. Had calamari and many Alphas.

What a great find. We visited twice & loved the beach. The water is incredibly clear & fantastic for snorkelling. It's a must for a visit when around the area. The views on the drive there are breathtaking. Highly recommended! Only let down is the restaurant on the beach.
