When constructing a new bridge to cross the river Argen, someone made the right decision to keep the old one, located right next to it.
It is a really beautiful piece of architecture that serves today as a public bicycle and pedestrian crossing.
There is free parking available next to the bridge. You can stop here for a short photo session or start a hiking tour along the river from here.
It is very easy to find. When you drive on the L334 country road from Langenargen to Kressbronn you cross the river Argen. The old suspension bridge runs parallel and very near to the modern bridge. It is visible from the country road and therefore impossible to miss.
Othmar Herrmann Ammann from Switzerland, who later designed the George-Washington-Bridge in New York City and served as an advisor in the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, worked here as an intern with the constructing company, while studying at university in 1896/97.

A beautiful bridge over the Argen river just before it joins with Lake Constance. Sad that the new bridge is just next to it disturbing its beauty.

We made a quick stop to see the first hanging bridge built in Germany in 1868. Small but surely worth a stop.

It is supposed to be the oldest cable bridge in Germany from 1898. The interesting part is that a Swiss engineer was part of the planning and building of the bridge. His further exploits were the George Washington Bridge in New York and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

It is a nice short photo stop on the bike path around the lake but after recent reconstruction the surface got a bit too modern look - spoils the history of this place in my opinion. Travelling from the west there is a very bad access across the main road that is always pretty busy with traffic. Also the sign markers could be more accurate - or to put it better: there should be some sign markers pointing to this place - there aren't any... Ask locals and/or use the map and you will find it. There are also some nice little white water rapids down the river, just follow the path on either side of the river towards the lake for about 100 meters (left bank offers better views).

Interesting bridge, free parking right next door. With information boards that tell you more about when it was built - very informative.
From the bridge you can walk along the Argen on both sides to the mouth, a lovely walk.
