    Beautiful place
You will have seen the pictures of the ochre cliffs, so yo know what to expect. But the colours and shapes really are amazing. The walk takes you to several viewpoints with views of the cliffs and spires. Some information boards explain the geology and history. It’s an easy walk, although some sections are steep and sandy, so you do need decent trainers at least. Expect your hands (and children, and dogs) to get dirty from the coloured sand. Yes you pay a few euro to get in but the boardwalks, handrails and information boards are worth it.
    Merci beaucoup pour votre avis.

Just when you think Provence couldn't get more beautiful...
I was already stunned by Provence, because I came here right after visiting Gordes. The truly different light, the amazing colors. Then I turn the corner and see the most vividly colorful rock formations I've ever seen? (and I've been to Bryce Canyon twice) I literally said out loud "C'mon, Provence, c'mon! Could you be more beautiful?!" (channeling Chandler from Friends!). It's almost unfair that a place already so beautiful has such a beautiful natural area also plopped down right in the middle of it! It was just overwhelming, in a good way. Beauty overload man, a rare and much appreciated experience. I did the short version of the hike through the ochre area, stunning, and the town of Roussillon itself was overall the prettiest in Provence (the long distance view of Gordes is amazing, the town itself is a tad small and stark). The ochre hike is easily accessed, as it's on one of the two main paths through town- one path goes through the town buildings, the other keeps going up the hill along the ridge, and essentially ends at the ochre hike. Highly recommended, Roussillon and this hike are must dos, second only to the view of Gordes for me!

    Views Of Golden Sands
Well it's not the expansive color country of Utah. But it's some of what France has to offer in terms of golden sandy stone. So as long as you made it to Rousillon and are wearing decent walking shoes, why not try out this trail. Maybe use your phone to find the start, a little bit uphill and off the main street. There's usually a small fee for entry and a bilingual trail guide at the gate. You'll walk down into a bowl of orange sand and, next, have your choice of 2 trails. Neither will take you very long. It's essentially the same loop, one a little longer than the other. Taking the longer loop adds some more views. Nothing difficult here. But definitely more exciting for the European visitors than a Utah/Arizona cowboy.

    Views for days
Nice and interesting views of the ochre hills and rock formations. Was surprised to see a entrance fee to do a walk. Lots of dogs on the trails. 2 path choices, some steep sections with stairs. Bring your own water. Pair it with a trip to visit the town of Roussillon, and you are set for a beautiful day exploring.

I’ve visited on a very hot, scorching day and even then there were lots of tourists, mostly not wearing face masks, understandably. A short distance after the entrance gate there is an large area, where everyone stops to take pictures of the ocher covered ground, hills and rocks. In my opinion you don’t need to go any further, as this is the most picturesque place. I hiked the 30 minutes trail in about 15 minutes, there was nothing except a narrow orange colored trail with trees all around, no great views anywhere. May be the one hour hike is more picturesque. Don’t forget to bring water. There are restrooms available at the entrance/exit gate, free, and an ice cream store nearby.

I was here years ago and remembered the beautiful place. I came back to Roussillon with my son and wanted him to see it. But the village is so completely full of tourists that it has become not really enjoyable. We went twice to the line for the sentier des ocres, and gave up both times. The line was long, moved slowly, and no shade. I guess this is not the place to come in tourist season (even in the Covid summer with relatively fewer tourists than usual).

Entrance to this site park is via the car park in the centre of Roussillon where you collect a map giving the option of walking the short (apparently 35 mins) or long (55 mins). Take the long unless you really are very, very unfit. The route really doesn’t take that long ( the 55 min route probably took us only just over 30 mins) but the landscape is beautiful and the impact that man has had on the landscape quite incredible. There are plenty of explanation points around the route and lots of places to sit and take in the views. The ochre hued rocks are unbelievably photogenic and you will see the most beautifully coloured rock formations.
There aren’t any places to get drinks or other refreshments in site the park so if you are walking around in summer, make sure to bring water with you. The sun can be pretty relentless even though a lot of the walk is in the shade. There is a drinking water fountain by the entrance where you can refill water bottles for free.

Spectacular to see the various shades of color as you meander down a nice walking path. Lots of shade and resting places on a hot day. Beware that your shoes and clothing may get over stained from the dusty trails, but that’s well worth it to see the beautiful vistas and canyons.
NOTE: Not that far of a walk from the entrance but you do need to be able to handle steps with a railing - given two routes to choose from a shorter 30 minute one and longer one that takes about an hour to walk. When you finish you are at the entrance to the old village of Roussillon where you can enjoy shops and restaurants.

Even in summer not too hot as it is mostly a walk in a shaded woods. Good path with sturdy, comfortable stairs. Take the 1 hour walk as actual times are much shorter. (The half hour walk we took was really less than 20 minutes).
