Over a number of different floors with good exhibits. However the upper levels could have been better used with more exhibits. Our main criticism is that there are no translations into English or German. Purely in French. Ok we were given cards with English translation on entering, but this only covered a very small percentage of what was shown. Yes,... More

The boys left the girls at the shoe shops and visited this war museum. Brilliant that this is still preserved and makes a very small scale but very interesting museum. You can still climb to the top and use the original optics to see out across the bay 35 KM away. The reason for this outpost was so that ship... More

The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. They explained all about the block house and gave us lots of information. There was plenty of English information forms available around the museum. It's a very interesting place with a small but good gift shop. The views from the top of the block house are worth the trip up the... More

We visited on our way back from Saint Nazaire and it was well worth popping in. One good thing about it is that you get given English translation sheets which means you can understand what is going on. This museum is very well thought out and it is nice that you can go up original ladders to go to the... More

This imposing building is a fantastic place to visit. Very good displays of artifacts and mock-ups of rooms, with documentation in English so you know whats going on. Also, you can climb all the way to the top where there is an excellent 360 view. Well recommended.

From the entrance with it's display cases featuring relics such as German helmets, to the life-size mannequins in realistic scenarios depicting life in the bunkers, Le Grand Blockhaus is an extraordinary experience of a particular period during WW2. In 1942, Hitler ordered the construction of an immense 'Atlantic Wall', stretching from Scandinavia down to Spain, though it was never fully... More

I should start by saying that this was on our "wet weather" list of things to do, rather than a "must-see" experience. It was listed in our guide-book as a small, somewhat quirky place and to some extent that is true. Despite some monumentally bad weather we had to get out and go exploring, and this turned out to be... More

I dropped in here while cycling past and was really amazed at how interesting it was. The €7.50 per adult entry was extremely good value. I will go back again one day and see the bits that I couldn't take in

Excellent view of WW2 preserved history on French coast in an area that wasn't destroyed during WW2.

This is a very well preserved slice of recent history. Thoroughly enjoyed the time spent the time spent there. As a history buff I had not realised that the St Nazaire pocket had only surrendered on 11th of May 1945, 3 days after rest of Europe. Though the fighting had already stopped prior. The exhibits predominantly in French but a... More
