An Great History Lesson at the Blockhaus awaits - Well worth the visit
Aug 2020
What a great visit learning the facts about WW2 history relating to the occupation and liberation of the St Nazaire peninsula. The French Host, delighted to have British Visitors made a special effort to explain additional facts about the Blockhaus and introduced us to a 96 year oldmember of the Free French Army who rode in the first jeep that liberated the bunker and surrounding area! Helmets, Uniforms, Ammunition and such interesting facts - a highlight of our visit to the area,

Very interesting Second World War exhibition
Aug 2020
This is a 2nd world war command bunker which has been fully equipped with uniforms, small alarms and extensive memorabilia displayed in numerous dioramas depicting scenes from that period. Guide notes in several languages are provided. A secret agent challenge is available for children and this proved very popular with our grand children. The blockhouse comprises of 4 or 5 floors and includes viewing platforms marked up with target and range data To aid gunnery control. It is very popular and has relatively limited space inside so queuing for entry is quite likely especially on a wet day.

This is a really interesting museum run by two really friendly and informative French brothers. One of them give a synopsis of WWII in France which was fantastic. We thought we knew a lot until then !! We have suggested a bit more English translation would be helpful.

Historical visit
Jul 2019 • Couples
Interesting artefacts set up in the German blockhouse, a good use of a Gerry built concrete building which is difficult to destroy. The building still showed some of the windows which had been painted on the outside walls by the German forces to make it look like a house in any reconnaissance photographs.

Inside there was lots of artefacts, information and film from the time of the German occupation in France.

Well worth a visit.

Best private museum of WW2
May 2019
Most fascinating WW2 museum, since it was not only photos, but full size diaramas with actual military uniforms and supplies, as well as weapons.

Well worth the visit - the size of this place is unbelievable
Jun 2018 • Couples
We visited this place and could barely believe our eyes! The size is almost unbelievable.
There was a warm welcome awaiting for us and the gentleman on reception spoke very good English, he told us a brief outline of the building gave us a small booklet to guide us round the building, I could hardly believe that such a "bunker" could be built. It was easy to see why they had chosen that spot as the views over the bay and out to sea were brilliant. The bunker has been disguised by pictures drawn on the outside to make it look like a house. It was super that you were allowed to walk around the entire building and explore all areas.
Well worth the visit.

A time capsule. Blockhaus packed full of WW2 stuff unearthed or donated.
Jul 2018 • Couples
Easy to get to, free parking. Well informed and multi-lingual receptionists. Lots of WW2 items that have been uncovered locally and donated. Interesting 15 minute film of people directly involved during the war, with English sub-titles.
Some of the English descriptions on the hand outs could do with checking, but the sense is very clear. Gives you a very good idea of what life was like inside the construction and throws a light on the German military organisation at that time. Those manning the blockhouse were reservists and not all army.
A small section on the 1942 St Nazaire commando raid is very good, but I would have liked some more English translations of this "scene".
Definitely "worth a detour".
