I went to this zoo/ animal sanctuary with my husband and our 11 year old. We enjoyed it a lot and was pleasantly surprised with how large it was and the number of animals that were there. Every time we thought we were finished there was another section. It was sometimes challenging to figure out where to go next, but we made it through. Hopefully we didn’t skip any animals. The enclosures and the zoo itself were very clean. The scenery was absolutely beautiful! The prices were great. For 3 of us it was less than half the cost of one ticket at our local zoo. We were happy to support an animal sanctuary.

I was extremely disturbed after visiting. The coyotes, pigs, large birds and jaguars were the worst. Pacing with dead eyes in disgusting conditions. This place should rethink their purpose and set free or put down these beautiful but trapped creatures.

The zoo is on beautiful land but has cages that are totally inadequate for the animals' needs. I saw a coyote with clear signs of stress from confinement in such a small cage. There are many animals that could be loose like peacocks. In addition to being inadequate, the cages are old. I don't even think the safety of visitors is guaranteed.

It’s a group of disparate animals in mainly old antiquated cages, the exception being the Spider monkeys. There’s no attempt at education or conservation and the bigger mammals just pace relentlessly. Bizarrely there’s a large chicken section and the eggs are on sale at reception. There’s also a large plants for sale section.
If you want to do some good then go and see JasĂłn at the Square Trees Nature trail who has a few Golden Frogs and a desire to preserve them.

The animals have no enrichment whatsoever. Horrible conditions. Every cage looks like it needs a lot of maintenance, chain link fences are all rusted. Everything looks dirty.
If you go and need to go to the bathroom, don't.

Was a very hot walk around but u got to see all the birds and animals of Panama, and lovely plants and flowers. Interesting place but was hoping for more butterflies. Make sure u bring bands for the birds and signs everywhere , do not feed the monkeys but people did.🤪

Went as part of a tour from the resort. Located in picturesque Anton Valley, surrounded by an ancient volcanic rim. Reported to be 94 different species of animals on site. A good number of animals have been rescued, including the Jaguars. I can agree with another reviewer that the monkeys craved touching and didn't want food. Are some of the cages on the small side? Yes, but many aren't bad or much different thin in larger North American zoos. And overall the zoo was clean and seemed pretty well kept. But if you don;t like seeing animals in cages, and I'm not a big fan of that, it might be best to skip. But younger kids will most likely enjoy it.,

I booked the zip line excursion they dropped me along with with a couple from my Hotel and paired us together with a very nice couple with their two children from Stolkholm Sweden where we did the long and steep walk up the first of the four zip lines run.We got to see a huge toad about the size of a baseball glove that couldn't hop away from us too quickly because of its weight! We also got to see a tropical bird that was yellow blue plus a few other colours i would've loved to have seen more birds but it wasn't to be.The weather up in the hills there is way cooler and very damp but you're supplied a rain jacket by your tour guide trust keep it close a hand you'll probably need it.The zip line runs were okay unlike Rancho Mi Choparitta In Sayulita you slow yourself with your strong glove hand. This is good if you don't like going very fast but it can't touch RMC Mexico in terms of ZL runs(13 there plus 4 suspension bridges) people who say all zip lines are the same should go there trust me that's a white knuckle experiance speed wise not to be forgotten!!The zip line guides at Anton Valley speak good English and were friendly and it was money well spent in tipping both of them. You have a cool photo chance after the 4 th and last zip line run of the water falls there.I should've maybe done the Zoo excursion instead but this was an okay way to spend a few hours with the couple from my Hotel and meet a nice Family from Sweden who were staying a a local Anton Valley Hotel and see a bit of the wee local town and do a bit of shopping in the market/shops as well.

My family and I visited The El Nispero Zoo in Panama and it made us sick and very angry to see the animals kept in such small cages and nothing to entertain themselves with. they were so bored and psychotic one was chewing its tail off and others were just going around in circles, never stopping. The birds are very unhealthy and cramped in small cages. The donkey just stand for hours tied up to a post. It was horrible. Someone is taking the money that is being sent by the USA and not using it for the animals care. Shame on them for treating animals in such a terrible way. Go see and and report the abuse. Please. Mary

Como se da el cuidado y el traslado si lo requiere una especie?
Written March 11, 2019
Hi We will avoid, place sounds like it should be shut down! Animals should only be in zoos for conservation in this day and age where so many face extinction due to human behavior! Birds so bored they pull their feathers out and animals that should be roaming free shut up in appalling conditions, what kind of lesson is this for children to learn?
Anyone prepared to justify it?? let me know, thanks
Kathy and Martin.

The Zoo el Nispero is a sanctuary for animals that were confiscated by the government authority. Every animal comes in "as-is." Because it's not a regular zoo, finances are hard to come by and are privately funded. Of course, the government would not subsidize a place that houses animals confiscated by them. Therefore, the upkeep, maintenance, and care are minimal at best.
