Challenging! Choose your tees wisely! Great test! Beautifully manicured and very well maintained. Many photo opportunities! Pricey but worth it. Pace of play was excellent! Tee times for non-hotel guests were late morning and afternoon. Lots of wildlife.

Had a wonderful time here. The staff was terrific and helpful throughout. Not many people on course but it was in great condition with terrific fairways, tee boxes and greens. Water views throughout. Some short holes but jungle around you and lots of wildlife. Very enjoyable with good rental selection. I would reocmmend for anyone who enjoys golf. You will not be disappointed.

This is the second time we've played this course and loved it. Beautiful scenic views over the water. Challenging drops from tee box to green. Plenty of jungle wild life such as monkeys, iguanas, and parrots. The pro shop is bright and welcoming and the customer service is exceptional. This is an Arnold Palmer Signature course.

We just returned from one of the most breathtaking places on earth. It was our annual girls trip and we chose Costa Rica as our destination. Not knowing what I was in for it was totally worth the wait. We stayed at the Four Seasons Exclusive Resort on the Pacific side. The house we rented was fabulous! We each had our own room and bathroom , a view of the beach, a huge common room and kitchen, laundry room, and a pool, oh and a golf cart to drive around the resort. The beach was just minutes from the house and you can check out a kayaks at no additional charge.
One of the closest towns to us was Liberia ( and they have a Walmart) so we did our food shopping there, and Coco Beach. We also ate were the locals ate. Much cheaper and very tasty!
We arranged for a tour guide before we got to Costa Rica. If you are looking to go and need a trustworthy guide Jeffery “Cash” is the man. His English is good and he is very knowledgeable of places to tour. He also doesn’t put a time restriction like the hotels or other resorts do so you never feel rushed. Ladies he is a perfect gentleman and nice looking too!
I posted a few pictures, but visiting is much better!

Great resort layout with wide fairways and receptive greens. Played with few others on course so pace of play was good. Service was excellent from the starter to cart guy to pro shop. Greens were nice and in good shape. Keep in mind this is a short course, it's very fun to play, but if you are a single digit handicap play the tips, else leave the driver at home.

Golf course is challenging; small greens, wind, elevation differences, and few flat fairway lies. Good test of golf for the average or better golfer. Should not be played by the begginner greens are difficult to read and putt.
Views from golf course are spectacular and variety of wildlife makes a round interesting

The Good:
-Well manicured, Challenging (Smallest greens of any course I've played), Beautiful views, Free Water, Cold Towels. Had our closest encounter with monkeys during our round.
The Bad:
-Not cheap, a long drive from many other Papagayo resorts.

Four Seasons Costa Rica Golf is the best golf experience Central America can offer. Right from our arrival, all staff were friendly, courteous, un-pretentious and spoke excellent English. We even had a little fun "practicing" my Span-glish.
Our arrival was a bit late so we couldn't use the practice range to warm-up. But, at the same time, we didn't feel like we were being pushed to the first tee. We were politely reminded of a group behind us - that was it. Away we go!!!!!!
Stunning, spectacular, awesome, breathtaking........... I've played many golf courses in my lifetime but never have I used all these adjectives to describe one particular course. The design and layout of this course is outstanding. Course maintenance is second to nothing!!!!
OK - here's my "Side B" - the price. Realizing the cost of business plus attracting (or discouraging) particular clientele is par for a course of this caliber, I find the $230 fee too steep for a casual, comfortable round of golf - anywhere. I was fortunate to play a pre-tournament round for about 1/3 of the normal price. That made for a most enjoyable day indeed. I've been visiting this area of Costa Rica for the past 10 years and have not/would not pay their published rate. I love golf and my hard-earned money - there are other courses near-by that offer more affordable green fees.
But, you get what you pay for!!!!!!!!!

Most magnificent course we've ever played: wildlife, ocean views, sounds of thousands of birds and monkeys in the abundant trees,
varied holes, perfect maintenance.

We just returned from C.R. split between the ANDAZ resort and the Four Seasons, unfortunately for Hyatt, this competition was a knockout in the first round. I really can't offer anything negative about the Four Seasons Papagayo - it is our new favorite right next to the 4S Hualalai on the Big Island. Here are the "Pros" (no "Cons", sorry Andaz....please see my review of that property).
PROS
Meticulous grounds, stunning guest rooms, amazing common areas, they spared no expense
Activities (many free, like cooking classes) were abundant and so much fun
Kids for All Seasons and teen clubs - we left ours at home - but checked it out, as good as the Hualalai on the Big Island
Food and beverage - over the top and phenomenal, my steak at Caraco restaurant was better than Mastro's and we loved WALTER the wine steward
Staff the friendliest of any Four Seasons we've visited, General Manager "Pascal" personally meets with each guest which I found very special and unique
Flawless service throughout resort - no exceptions.
Location #1 - you can't beat their spot on the peninsula - two separate beaches (Andaz = no beach), plus the local wildlife (howler monkeys, white faced monkeys) seem to seek this property out because of its grounds, very cool.
Location #2 - this resort is less than 45 min drive from wonderful new and modern airport in LIBERIA (serviced by Delta, AA and United), save yourself the headache of dealing with San Jose, CR and fly into this gem and spend your vacation relaxing instead of dealing with long drives and transports!
See my review of 2 awesome restaurant finds if you have a vehicle and want to venture out of the resort for an awesome meal - ABBOCATO in nearby Playa Panama and COCO LOCO in Playa Flamingo
