Luckie and Kevon braved the waves to pick us up from Tobacco Caye on a day when they cancelled all their other tours. We hired them for a private snorkel tour as a way to snorkel the reef and also get a water taxi from Tobacco Caye to Hopkins. We asked to see some manatees and Luckie knew right where to go, and we got lucky and saw a couple. Both of them offered so much information to us and constantly checked in to see how we were fairing in the rough waves. Lots of laughter and good music, (and water), on the ride back to their dock, we always felt safe.
We ran into Kevon in town the next day and he remembered us, and our names, and gave us great advice on a place to rent bikes. These folks go above and beyond, this is our second time going out with Happy Go Luckie and we highly recommend them if you’re in Hopkins and wanting to go out on the water. They customize their tours so it’s all based on what you want.

My family of mixed experienced and non-experienced divers joined this tour bringing our total group up to 6. Another mixture of dive experiences. Luck was our guide during this dive. He made executive feel not only safe and confident, but more importantly welcome and wanted. His level of professionalism was superior to any other dive ship we’ve tried in the past. His crew was amazing and fun, trading jibes with each other and appropriately with us. He shared his experiences and created a warm atmosphere in which we all felt a little like family. Will be joining him again on our next venture to Hopkins!

My husband and I, along with my daughter and her family traveled to Belize for a two-week vacation in July of 2024. We contracted with Happy Go Lucky Dive Shop in Hopkins, Belize to island hop, fish, scuba dive, and snorkel. Kenrick was our dive master and overall fishing and tour guide, Bean and Toni were the boat captains, and Kirk was snorkeling guide when some went diving while others snorkeled. At times there were as many as 7 family members aboard the boat. I cannot recommend this dive shop enough! We did several excursions and each time safety and fun tied for first place! These young people could not have been any more knowledgeable and professional. Lucky and Cheryl (the owners) put together a remarkable group of people to manage our adventures. We even had fun with GiGi at reception. This was our 1st trip to Belize and Happy Go Lucky helped us create forever memories. If you are looking for safe, professional, and fun adventures with amazingly gorgeous scenery, look no further than Happy Go Lucky Dive Shop!

I had come to Belize with my 11-year-old daughter for some adventures this week. She's never really been snorkeling or out on the open ocean, and is generally somewhat afraid of swimming with things that she can't see or fully control. The folks at HGL tours took care of all this and we had an amazing day. Doing the full day snorkeling adventure.
We stopped by the day before so My daughter could ask some questions and they really made her feel before we started the tour. The next morning we came and our guide and captain did everything they could to make her feel comfortable and prepared to encounter her fears, which she did! She had a great time.
And that's just the start of it. None of this type of stuff was new to me, and this was one of my better days of this kind ever. The multiple amazing snorkeling sites, the awesome tiny little island where we stopped to make lunch, and the friendliness and communicativeness of our guides (Not to mention the tastiness of the food) was all top notch! I would definitely do it all again!

Your trip may get cancelled without notice. I would recommend booking with a known reliable tour company or local person if you can. I booked a snorkeling trip on a Monday for a Wednesday 2 pm tour. Our whole family (including my five year old) was at the shop in person to arrange this trip. We provided our contact information so they would send us a waiver of liability form for everyone to complete and to make a deposit. I explained that we were heading out for a day trip and would return late. At no point did the person advise us that if we did not fill out the forms “ immediately” we would lose our trip. I later leaned that on that same day, they sold our tour to another group. They blame us for not filling out the forms and give a deposit immediately, but if that was the case, they should have advised that we could lose our trip if we don’t do so. If money was the issue, we would have given a deposit at the store. In any event, they are very unfriendly to customers. Wednesday was the only day we could do the trip on our short vacation, and it was so disappointing and stressful to deal with this on a vacation. The worst part is that while they admitted to us they had resold our trip on the same day we arranged for the trip, in written communications, they blamed us for the cancellation and made no effort to remedy the issue. In my many years of traveling to Belize, this is first time I experienced such a disappointing customer service. We did find another company that saved our vacation that required NO deposit and was extremely reliable and reasonable. I guess we were lucky to have found this other customer friendly company in town.

It is unfortunate that this group is saying some of these things as some of what they are saying is actually inaccurate but nevertheless it gives us an opportunity to correct some errors and talk about our booking policy.
We are a small, Belizean, family run operation with a good reputation for customer service and reliability. We do our best to operate in a customer friendly way. We are also running a business and we only have two boats. Sometimes we get inquiries that never turn into bookings and thus we do have a policy that we do not hold a boat unless a booking is confirmed. This policy is communicated to potential customers.
This group came into our office in the morning to inquire about a tour. Our office assistant sent them a complete quote with booking instructions that also state that a booking is not confirmed until the deposit is paid, via email and verbally informed them of what was required to confirm while they were in the office. They stated they would fill out the additional information we require and send the deposit later that day when they got to their resort.
We did not hear back from them, they did not respond to the quote or pay the deposit at any time that day.
The next morning we got another request and since we did not hear back from the first inquiry we assumed they had changed their mind. This does happen sometimes and people don't let us know they booked with someone else or decide not to go. We did email them at that time to let them know we were not longer available and when our next availability was and when we were informed they did not have other dates to go we sent them contact information for two other companies that we trust to send our referrals. I believe they re-booked with one of those referrals.
We did not resell the trip the same day, it was the next morning that the request came in.
We did not blame them, we simply stated that the tour was not confirmed and the spot got filled.
We did notify them and try to remedy the situation by offering our next availability and other recommendations when those dates didn't work for them.
Unfortunately sometimes these situations can happen. We do try to be as clear as we can about our policies. We have them stated in our emails, we also try to verbally let people know as well when they call or come into our office. Our booking and cancellation policies are also posted in our office. The thing that is difficult for us is that if we hold boats and refuse other inquiries and then the first inquiry doesn't get back to us or decides they don't want to go we lose out on business and with only two boats we cannot afford to have that happen. We will work harder to make it very clear in the future as it seems these customers were still not clear despite our efforts.

We had a wonderful full day adventure with our grandson and some friends, and as usual, Happy Go Luckie made it an awesome day! This time we went out with Oscar and Tony for some great snorkeling by the reef and a delicious lunch and fun afternoon at Bread & Butter Cayes.
I believe I have gone out with every one of their captains and guides, and no matter who takes us on any given day, they always make everyone feel like part of the family. Everyone has a wonderful time in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, but they never compromise on safety.
Happy Go Luckie folks are always very attentive to their guests, and are very responsive. We had one inexperienced snorkeler with us who got a little seasick, which they noticed right away and helped him through quickly. And talk about "full service" - I had forgotten to braid my ponytail, and was scrambling to do it before getting in the water. Our captain just said, "Here, let me!" and he had my hair braided in no time, so I could jump.overboard and not hold up the group! I am handicapped, and although I tease them that they probably flip coins to see who will get "stuck" with me, they are always absolutely wonderful about helping me get in and out of the boat each time.

Happy Go Luckie Tours were fabulous! They were so personal from start to finish. Made me me comfortable, as this was my 3 dive in 23 years, so I was nervous. The boat ride out to sea was choppy, and I felt a little uneasy. But, anchored out at sea and paired with a wonderful master diver, I felt better and had fun! I was traveling solo, so being paired with an awesome Dive Master, named Kendrick, made me feel soo comfortable and safe underwater. Luckie and his crew were fun, and attentive, and comforting. Kendrick, literally, had a whiteboard and pencil underwater, and pointed to sea creatures, and wrote down their names on the whiteboard for me to read! How amazing is that of him! Kendrick literally made the diving extra incredible, as he pointed out soooo many amazing sea creatures to me! I loved it. Thank you so much to Luckie and his beautiful wife and amazing crew for a memorable and wonderful dive experience! Highly recommend!

My wife and I went on four 2-tank dives with Happy Go Luckie Tours and had an awesome time. The owners Luckie and Cheryl have put together a great team of dive masters and captains. Cardinal, Kenrick, Lewis, Kevon, and, of course, Luckie himself took us to amazing sites on the barrier reef in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. The coral, sponges, and marine life are in excellent shape in the Reserve. We dove with DMs Cardinal and Luckie and they both are great at locating and identifying marine life that is difficult to find. I also want to mention Gigi who works in their office booking dive trips; she is friendly and professional. We booked “open dives”, meaning up to four other divers could book for the same trip, and joined others that had already booked “open dives” as the cost per diver goes down with more divers (six maximum). Of course you and a dive buddy (or buddies) could book a private trip. We didn’t rent a car for part of our stay in Hopkins and the booking includes transportation to and from their dock. We will definitely dive with Happy Go Luckie the next time we visit Hopkins Village!

Thanks for your review. Our aim is to keep our dive groups small to make the experience as safe and comfortable for everyone, including our team, that way you can focus on the beauty and wonder in front of you and if any issues come up its easy for the team to assist and keep a safe watch over everyone. We appreciate that you took the time to write a review and we hope you do come back and dive with us again.

We had a fantastic time with Happy Go Luckie tours on a half day private charter for 2. We enjoyed 2 snorkeling spots and some tubing. The tour stated in the Sitee River and it was cool to boat through the river and we saw some wildlife on the way out. Even though it was a little cloudy with some showers, the water was clear and the snorkeling spots were amazing. The second spot was particularly fantastic with a lot of colorful coral. We saw sting rays, 2 sharks, some eels, and a variety of fish and the guide both gave us a route and pointed out various fish and corals in the water. We got to do some tubing through the open water and some mangroves.
The ability to customize your tour (we really loved having both snorkeling and tubing) and the personal guide pointing out stuff were both advantages over larger tours we have take outside of Belize. My partner gets sea sick and they did a great job noticing and accommodating (we didn’t say anything at the start oops) which minimized this issue and ensured she had a great time.

We had the best day with Kirk as our guide and Tony as our captain! We started off hand line fishing, and they were so patient and made sure we were successful at catching fish! Then we headed to one of the cayes for snorkeling, and it was unbelievable! We saw so much coral and so many sponges and fish. Kirk pointed out many different species and gave us the names of more than we could remember! He made sure to point out conch because he knew I was disappointed that I missed conch season. For the next part of the day we went to Bread & Butter Caye where Kirk & Tony cooked the fish that we we caught, along with sausage, chicken, and beans. It was delicious and such a beautiful setting for lunch. After lunch, Kirk took us out snorkeling around the caye, and saw some more amazing coral, fish, and sponges. This definitely tops the list as one of my favorite days ever!

How many people are in a group, how long are you out and what is the cost? We will be there end of this month.
Thank you!

I was there in December 2017 so my memory is a bit fuzzy: I think we had to be there at 8amish and we were back by 1pmish. There were eight people on our boat--4 pairs--but they could have fit a few more people. I do not remember the pricing, but I think it was probably around $60/person.

Thanks for this info. Going in October, and I will hire Luckie for sure! How much was this tour? Will he take just 2 of us, or do we need to form a group?
Written May 25, 2018
Im so glad our past customers are so helpful to answer this as I was not notified of this question and just seeing it now! For future reference we do custom private charters and our prices for those trips are flat rate for the boat. We offer half and full day charters to the barrier reef and full day charters to Glovers reef. Even a solo traveller can and has chartered us before. The less people on the boat the higher the cost per person as it is a flat rate. Please see our website for our current pricing and note that our pricing is listed in Belize dollars with USD in brackets.

Hi there, we are planning to do a full day island hopping/snorkeling/fishing charter like some of you have done. From your experience, how long it takes to fish for your lunch? Thanks!
Written February 24, 2018
The first thing you'll do is go catch small bait fish with a net. This is fine by your guide and takes about 20 minutes. Then they head out to the fishing spot. When you drop your line in, you'll get a bite almost every time. We caught many fish and kept only the best ones. We probably fished for an hour, but you could customize this to your preference. Then we snorkeled, and afterwards had lunch on an island. In addition to eating the fish we just caught we also caught a lobster and conch that we ate.

Do you offer Water taxi from Belize city to Dangriga? We fly into Belize and arrive at 10:05 am, and need to be in Dangriga by 4? Would love to have something planned (excursion) during the time between us arriving and then be dropped off in Dangriga before 4. We would have our luggage, so it must be able to take my husband and I along with our luggage.

We don't normally service this route because it is long and expensive, especially for just two people but if you want to discuss the possibility further please email us at email address posted on this tripadvisor page or our website.
