As we were coming back into the marina after a day of diving one of the staff for the dive shop was giving instructions about what to do when we reached the dock and thanking us for diving with their company. He actually said something to the effect that if we had problems or concerns to put them on TripAdvisor so they could learn from their mistakes. So, I will try and point out some negatives and suggestions. We dove for 5 days with Belize Underwater. Overall, I would highly recommend this dive operation. They were professional, fun and friendly. Our 15-year-old son completed his PADI Advanced Open Water and Deep Diver Certification. Roy was his instructor over the 4 days it took to complete these courses and did a great job with our son. Oscar was our divemaster throughout the 5 days of diving and did a great job keeping us safe, pointing out interesting stuff and helping us with our gear. Edward piloted our dive boat each day and gave us a good briefing on the boats before we got onboard. On our first and last day of diving it was just the 3 of us diving so we took out one of their smaller boats. It is a good 30 minute ride at least out to the dive sites. In a small boat it is going to be rough – but the payoff is that you get the reef to yourselves – just be comfortable doing a back roll off the boat in rough waters. Edward did a good job of minimizing the jarring of the ride while still getting us out to the dive sites in a reasonable amount of time. The second time we motored out on the small craft (Fresh Catch) Oscar realized it would be a good idea to use the life jackets as seat cushions – one of my only negatives would be that it would have been good to have seat cushions the first time out. For our other 3 days of diving there were a handful of other divers, so we took one of their bigger boats. Miss Rachel had all of the usual dive boat amenities such as a marine head and a platform to do a giant stride. Regardless of boat size we got a good meal in between dives. Lunch was more than just a sandwich or piece of fruit – we had chicken or pork with rice, beans and some salad or vegetables. For lunch they motor over to a nearby Cay: South Water Cay and either beach or anchor in the calm shallows for lunch. There was plenty of time to digest the meal, wade around in the shallows or hangout on the beach. While at South Water Cay they change over your gear (unless you are a student). I will not go into too much detail about the dives – each dive was different and would be different on different days. Overall diving was very good. Reefs were in good shape. Saw eagle rays on many of the dives and a few turtles. The nurse sharks are very active in areas where they have been spearing lionfish and feeding them to the nurse sharks. They might come right up to you – my son had a face to face encounter with one. Mostly they just swim around you but don’t be surprised if one touches you – just keep your hands and fingers in (like you should while diving anyhow) and don’t reach out to grab one. Probably mostly harmless. The sharks might be a bit unnerving for some – but I enjoyed watching their graceful movements close up. But know before you go - they are not necessarily friendly or curious – they are waiting for someone to spear a lionfish and get fed. Lionfish as you may know are the scourge of the Caribbean. They are not supposed to be there and are upsetting the ecosystems. We saw lionfish on most dives but not tons of them. Belize has been actively trying to control the lionfish invasion and seem to be doing an OK job of keeping them under control. Our family of 3 traveled to Belize the first week of August in 2021. We stayed at Parrot Cove Lodge where we ate several wonderful meals at Chef Rob’s. We ziplined and hiked in the jungle. We toured ruins and played around in Hopkins Village. I will post separate reviews on our lodging, tours and dining experiences. COVID-19: yes, we did travel during a pandemic when another wave of cases was occurring. The 3 of us were vaccinated. We wore N-95 mask on the plane. In Belize almost everyone was wearing a mask – even outside for example riding a bike down the highway. Know that Belize is trying to keep you and their people safe. Please respect their laws, restrictions, and norms about COVID-19. Belize has done a good job at keeping deaths down in their country - don’t spoil it for them - get vaccinated and wear a mask. I wish you safe travels.

This is a fun experience Fremont all about different coral and marine life of the Belizan reef. The ride was a little bit due to waves, but Hasel and Tony were very accommodating.

We did discover scuba with Belize Underwater and had a great experience. I am certified as a diver but my boyfriend isn't so we did discover so that we could dive together. Tony did an amazing job going through all the basics with my boyfriend and then led us on a great dive where he pointed out some amazing things such as eagle rays, turtles and sharks. The food on the boat was delicious and everyone was so kind, informative and taking their responsibilities very seriously. Huge thank you to Tony and Roy who were AMAZING guides. We had an awesome time!! xx, Sarah and David 1
