When a South African says they are going to take you up the mountain on a tractor & trailer, they mean UP THE MOUNTAIN - all 1500 metres of it! It's an awesome experience travelling the windy narrow path to the top - not for those who are easily scared, but our driver and guide was extremely careful and I never felt unsafe. The views are to die for - across the Koo valley on the one side and over to Robertson on the other. We were lucky enough to see the snow capped Matroosberg in the distance. At the end of the trip you have the option of eating a potjie lunch with slow cooked lamb, beef and chicken on offer as well as starter home made breads and a baked pudding to finish. The lunch was home cooked heaven and very good value for money. A small niggle is that I would have preferred alternative drinks to the fruit juice and box wine and would have been happy to pay for a good glass of wine or a cooldrink. This outing is well worth the time and money.

Here you can travel on a tractor and trailor up the mountain, enjoy a muscadel and on the return trip eat your heart out on the best food of your choice. Don't miss this special outing - take your girlfriend or wife on a Valentine's day trip. They also have accommodation where you can stay overnight.

My wife and I had the good fortune to learn from our GP about the Tractor ride & Potjiekos culinary delight on the fairytale Protea Farm in the Koo Valley, some 20km from Montagu. We decided to "follow doctor's orders" to the extent that we booked into one of the various delightful units on the Farm, called "The Opstal", while joining the tractor ride the very next morning, ending off with the best Potjiekos we had ever come across! The Opstal oozes character with its thatch roof, fire place, braai and stoep, affording one true beauty and tranquillity. The tractor ride the Saturday morning was something to behold in terms of sheer fun!! and breathtaking sweeping views; in no small measure thanks to the very friendly and capable farm manager and driver of the tractor, Wayne. The ride ended with an absolutely AWESOME potjiekos meal which can, as with accommodation and the ride, also be booked independently. Rates are in all instances very affordable. Thanks to Pierre and Karen for sharing their gem of a farm with us and for their warm welcome!! We are back there as soon as early May, this time in an even more idylic spot by the name of "Populierbos" We literally cannot wait!! Thanks also to Dia, who handles bookings and enquiries. She is no doubt an asset to Protea Farm in the professional and friendly way that she engages. Best wishes until we see again, and by the way, one does not need doctor's orders to enjoy all of this!🤗 Hermann & Delcia

We had a wonderful weekend with lots of peace and quiet, braais and long walks. The kids loved it and the rooms, bathroom and outside shower was awesome. The owners are very friendly and helpful and the farm is beautiful. We didn't have the potjiekos but it looked amazing and we will definitely do it next time. If you arrive in the dark please make sure where to go beforehand. We had no cell reception and even though fine in daylight, the road was quite daunting at night.
