We hiked here before our Thanksgiving meal and the roughly 2.5-mile trail is well marked The best thing about hiking in late November was that most of the leaves had fallen so we had spectacular views of the surrounding area. Halfway between Highlands and Cashiers,...More

This 2 mile loop trail has beautiful long range views at the top and along the crest of Whiteside Mt. Take off from the parking lot (rustic restrooms) and stay left on the old gravel road for an easier ascent. It’s.8 mile to the top,...More

The morning I hiked Whiteside the clouds were socked in at the summit which limited the experience somewhat, but in no way ruined the morning. The fall colors were popping, and the fog and clouds made for a spooky October ambiance. This was a fun...More

There is a $2.00 fee to park here but so worth it. It is a loop and it is suggested the loop to the left is easier so we took that. It was a gravel path ascending the entire way. It opens into a lovely...More

This is located on the highway between Highland and Cashiers. The views are breathtaking and well worth the hike. We usually take the winding path to the left when we hike up the mountain. The path that starts at the right has A LOT of...More

We have hiked this many times but 10 years or so ago. 20-30 lbs heavier this time so it was a stop and go event heading up the 5000 ft elevation. The entire hike took us about 2 hours. At the summit is always such...More

We went up to Cashiers/Highlands area for the kids fall break and I highly recommend dragging whatever teenager and middle schooler you have to Whiteside Mountain for a hike. I can't think of a better place to commune with nature while watching your children enjoy...More

Had a wonderful hike up to the summit of Whiteside Mountain. I recommend taking the trail to the left on your way up, nice wide path. After enjoying the spectacular view we came down on the right trail which was a more difficult hike with...More

I love to exercise but I hate to hike. Doesn't make sense, right? So, I have to get to the scenic part of a hike quickly. And this place accommodated me. The hike is pretty simple. Once you get to the top you're surrounded by...More

This is a fee area but only $2.00 per vehicle. There is a very good walkway out to the cliff face but if you make the entire circuit hike, be prepared with drinking water. You will hike over rock and up an down small rises....More

The best spots near Whiteside are both approximately 3-4 miles west of Highlands off Highway 64 west, to wit: Cliffside Recreation Area and Van Hook Glade. Both have nice campsites with views of Cliffside Lake.
