Great free bush walk that has a hidden gem. Cave in the second loop has some hidden glow worms. Best go here on sun set. Moderate path, stairs 40mins max

If you have 45 mins - 1 hr to spare and want to enjoy a great walk, with the chances of seeing some Cave entrances and streams, amidst mostly tree covered walking trail, then definitely go for this walk. It would be a time well spend. The walk forms an entire loop (which is mostly marked).

We did this totally spontaneous walk at night, which was recommended by locals. No preparation, no booking, no special equipment needed except a torch! The track is easy to find and once you are on the bridge switch of the lights and just look all around! You will be definitely astonished by amount of glow warms. If the night is... More

Worth booking through 'Spellbound' as this walk is integral to the Glow-worm cave experience. Interesting geological phenomena at the end of the walk.

After having an early dinner at HUHU in Waitomo Village, we decided to visit the Ruakuri walk. Being late in the day there were very few other people around, so we virtually had the place to ourselves. It would have easily been 7pm py the time we reached the cave at the end of the track and we were greeted... More

This is a pleasant brief walk with interesting scenery, rock tunnels, cave and stream. But the bonus is that if you do it at dusk or beyond the early part of the walk, either side of the swing bridge, is alive with glowworms. ... and they're free!!

The Ruakuri Bush Walk is a 45 minute circular walk enhanced by good wooden walkways and bridges where appropriate. It requires an average level of fitness, with some uphill walking. You get a feel for your damp atmospheric surroundings and there are natural rock tunnels and different views of entrances to the cave system to be enjoyed. Do return after... More

This scenic walk winds through lush rainforest and caves, following the rushing water that sculpts the landscape. The walk is easy, yet very damp ( we had a lot of rain the day before our visit). However the track is well maintained. There are quite a few steps on this walk, however there are seats along the way for a... More
