About
Sumac Ridge Estate Winery was the first operating estate winery in British Columbia. We have been dedicated to producing wine from 100% BC grown grapes since our inception. We are the home to three unique brands in one iconic location, Sumac Ridge Private Reserve, Steller's Jay traditional method sparkling wines are wonderfully vivacious, perfect for any occasion. The bold wines of the Black Sage Vineyard speak to the terroir, telling the story of the right vines planted in the right place at the right time. Visit the winery for a tasting, food and wine pairing experience or picnic. We are open year round for tastings and our experiences run from May to October.

We stopped without a reservation and paid $5 to taste 4 white wines. The pinot grigio was the stand out wine and was only £13.99 plus tax. The staff were very friendly and even poured us an extra free tasting of their port paired with chocolate.

Kari and I had a wonderful spontaneous drop in to Sumac Ridge Winery. John C was so accommodating and really looked after us. Highly recommend a unique wine called Whiskey Barrel Aged Red wow such an interesting taste loved it.

We had a great time at Sumac Ridge Estates Winery yesterday. John took us through the tasting explaining how to do a proper tasting, providing details on each of the wines and the history of the Winery. Of the 5 wineries we visited yesterday, they were the only one that provided a separate glass for each wine to be tasted (first class). Sumac has a very flexible wine club. The gift shop has some unique items reasonably priced. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, a wonderful experience.

Some customer service would be appreciated. We were "walk-in". There was nothing on the site immediately indicating an appointment would be appreciated. The wait for the tasting (although the tasting areas were empty) was about five minutes. Then a gentleman came and indicated we should go here, no here, no here. Finally we were in the right place. We only had a choice of four set "menus" of white/mixed/red/ premium I think. Other than the colour of the wine, no choice at all. The tasting was very brief. The cost for each tasting was $10 and was NOT waifed with any purchases (one bottle of wine, one cook book and one chocolate bar). I then had to wait ten to fifteen minutes (with only one person ahead of me) to be able to make my purchases. Although there was a credit card machine where we tasted, I was not able to purchase any thing at that location. A thoroughly disappointing stop. This would be the only bad stop after visiting approximately 15 wineries in a two week period.

We had a great wine tasting experience with John C as our gracious host! He was super knowledgeable and friendly. He took us through an informative tasting and even went out of his way to get us a couple extra samples of some wines we were curious about. I would highly recommend visiting Sumac Ridge. We will definitely return the next time we are in Summerland. Thankfully we have many bottles to enjoy at home :)

Dropped in without a reso to do a wine tasting this afternoon. Luckily they had an opening and we were thrilled with the experience! John took the time to explain the process of making their signature Brut and some of the other wines they make. The other staff were all equally friendly and helpful. Don’t know how we’ve missed stopping in here before as it’s been a Summerland fixture for decades. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy lunch and purchase more of their reasonably priced wines.

As a Girl's Trip of 60' somethings we can't say enough positives of our tasting experience at Sumac Ridge. We were warmly greeted by John C and spent a very enjoyable time with him going through the wineries numerous and varied whites and reds. The bubbly Shiraz is a wine that was an amazing surprise and he patiently answered all our questions along the way with a smile and humour. This man knows his stuff!
Over four days we visited eight wineries in the region and Sumac Ridge by far was the best. Many wineries were extremely pretentious and not welcoming. This one far exceeded our expectations. We all purchased several bottles of our favourite wines and products from their culinary selections in the gift shop area as we ended out time, never feeling rushed.
John C the "Girls" from Calgary say thanks again! Sumac Ridge will now be our first choice when we shop at home.

I had a group of 4 go for a tasting last weekend. I had heard of sumac ridge before but wasn’t too sure if I was going to get anything. Then we had John C for our tastings. And he was FABULOUS. He was so knowledgeable and personable. And really told us about the history of wines. He even went the extra mile to answer all our questions. And told about more wines then just the samples that were out. He was so great my entire group left with a bunch of bottles and we look forward to drinking them and talking about how much we LOVED John!

Always enjoy the wines and pleasant staff at this winery. We did a tasting with John C this time and he was a most enjoyable host with good background on the wines. We particularly like the Black Sage wines that Sumac produces. This year we are also enjoying the Stellars Jay sparkling wines, the sparkling rose and shiraz wines are really great in this hot weather!!

We stopped in at Sumac Ridge for a wine tasting - the first for my budding epicurean of a son, who just turned 20. We didn't have a reservation (recommended), but they managed to accommodate us anyway, which was very kind. Our sommelier, John C. was an absolute delight and shared his breadth of knowledge with us with humour and sophistication. The wines range from lower priced Sumac Ridge charmers up to the more serious Black Sage beauties, and you get a generous pour of at least four (including their spectacular Stellar's Jay bubbly). Downstairs in the retail shop we were charmed by Guillaume, who helped us choose the perfect selection of wines for our budget. Overall our time at the Sumac Ridge Winery was a truly unique experience, and quite unlike any other wine tasting rooms I've been to. Highly recommended.
