A nice place to take young children on a dry day
Aug 2020 • Family
We visited while on holiday at a local caravan park. Just a short 5min car journey from Kinmel Bay, this is a lovely space to bring a young family looking for things to entertain the kids. We had a ride on the miniature steam train first. No pre-booking required. We queued for the tickets and bought a crabbing kit while we were there (Bucket, crab line, net and bacon for bait). My kids (9 and 7) both loved the train. There was a mix of closed and open carriages. We opted for open as the weather was lovely. It was about 10mins to go round the lake, and was very pleasant. There’s a very small museum inside the station.
There were lots of families crabbing, and plenty of crabs to go round! There was a small play park outside the station for the kids to play in. Overall a very nice way to spend a morning or afternoon, but i wouldn’t say it was a ‘whole day’ place.

If you like crabbing and/or a nice walk this is for you.

We found this hidden gem on the way back from a few days in Towyn. We had not found time to do any crabbing prior as had a busy schedule while away. I did a google search on our last night and saw this. We got there and decided to give it ago and were so pleased we did.
The lake is a fabulous walk around and is totally on the flat so would suit all needs. The little island in the middle of the lake had a group of cormorants on it’s banks which was lovely to see.
There are a couple of jetty’s where you can crab and in 40 minutes we caught 21. Not bad at all. Please give this lake a visit if you’re passing. It’s lovely.

Surprising find

We discovered this by accident after never venturing down this part of Rhyl before. Lots of families crabbing... we will bring our stuff next time! We enjoyed a trip on the train and a look around at the museum. Nice play area. Well worth a visit.

GREAT GREAT AND GREAT
Aug 2019 • Couples
The sat navy took us close but on the main road with no access for car park, we had to turn the car around and go back to the traffic lights and take a right turning which took us to the free carpark.
The place was closed yet you can still access this place and stroll around, sit and enjoy etc.
We were at the airshow and managed to get here about 5.30pm after the show.
We had fun doing a bit of catching crabs like the youngsters. We got chatting to a family who were also having fun enjoying the sun and crabbing with their little lad.
A brilliant warm evening we couldn't have asked for more.

Child oriented nice place!

A huge lake with a one mile long miniature railway ride around the lake for £3 per adult. There's a small museum about the miniature railway aimed at children mainly. Nice clean place and Gregg's cafe across the road.

A cheap day out
Aug 2019 • Family
We have a caravan local to here so go a lot in the summer. There’s the lake where a little train goes around and you can ride on for a few pound. The station is fantastic and realistic with a little museum about steam trains off the platform. There’s a shop where you can buy refreshments and toy trains for the enthusiasts, all reasonably priced. The lake has children sailing on it but my children just like to crab. You can buy all crabbing equipment from the shop and set to on a days crabbing. There’s loads of seating around for adults to watch while having a tea or ice cream. There’s s pontoon where the children can go on to crab, it’s one of my children’s favourite things to do. We let them go at the end of crabbing. There’s a car park around the back if you drive. There’s also a great park on site.
