A perfect view of a great stretch of Hadrians wall. Car park £2 for an hour so not cheap for a long walk of several hours, but for a short walk it is easy to get to the top of the crag and to beyond the remains of Milecastle 42 Fort for some really good photographs. If you want to see just the wall without paying £11 per person for entry at one of the fort sites with their good museums its a good choice.

Car park and picnic area alongside a lake (flooded quarry?). Pay and display meters so make sure you book enough time to allow for your intended walk.
It is a relatively short walk to the milecastle and to a well preserved section of the wall with extensive panoramic views. Longer distance circular routes also start from here.

This was something that I did not know existed. What a great walk along this Roman wall. Has views of some beautiful countryside. If you love to walk in the UK countryside, then this is a wonderful walk. There is a car park that requires payment, and restrooms.

Very steep climbs and descents. But worth it for the views. Easy parts to follow. Lots of stiles or gates to negotiate. Very tired at the end but senses if achievement Cawfields to Houseteds a must do.

We walked along this stretch of the Roman Wall at Cawfields there were some great views, and the opportunity to pause and think as you sat on a section of the wall, for how many centuries has someone been able to sit here???

This is one of a number of places where Hadrian's Wall may be visited. Situated just off the B6318 north of Haltwhistle, Cawfields has a small pay and display car park for those visiting. If you intend to visit a number of the locations, a car park ticket covering them is available but you would need it before arriving at this location. There is an option of the "Hardian's Wall bus" (amusingly running as Route AD122) to visit also.
The car park has toilets and there are picnic tables available at a number of locations in the vicinity. Adjacent to the car park is a Victorian quarry (now a lake) which attracts a variety of bird life. There are also information boards at the car park and along the path leading up to the wall Whilst it is a steep climb, it is a short one. As may be imagined, the views once you are at the top of the climb are superb. It is a quiet and peaceful area (at least it was when we visited) even though there were quite a number of visitors. Well worth a stop if you are in the area.

We started our walk just behind Sainsburys in Haltwhistle, and the walk is fairly well signposted, but just follow the burn really.

The walk along the burn offers an insight into the industrial history of Haltwhistle, but is now a lovely shaded walk along a wooded burn. You don't realise that you are climbing up, until you come away from the wooded part of the walk and out into moorland near to the old military road. Cross over the road, and follow the signs to Canfield and the wall.

The walk up to the wall is fairly easy here, so would be good for most people to reach the wall. The wall is really well preserved here, and offers wonderful views.

Normally we don't like having to go back the way we have just come along, but because this walk was so lovely, it was good to go back the same way.

The walk overall is only about 3 1/2 miles, and didn't take us too long, so you can easily fit it in if you want to combine it with a visit to other parts of the wall/ forts.

We walked here from the nearby campsite we were staying at. Thankfully the weather was kind and once we got to the site we had spectacular views all around us.

Many of the "marquee" Hadrian's Wall sites (Chester's Fort, Housesteads, etc.) can get quite crowded and charge a relatively steep admission fee (and you still have to pay for parking). Cawfields is different. It's located west of Housesteads by a small access road. You do have to pay for parking (you can use the day pass purchased for any of the other sites) but it's a short walk to the wall. The wall here is in good shape and you can go for as long as a walk as you'd like.
