Very interesting place to visit. All of the staff are volunteers and are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the whole place.
Talking to them, it feels like every visit will be a different experience as they have so many different people that attend on different days, all with very different sets of skills and knowledge.
Add to it all that they all have 17th century characters with interwoven back stories to add to the authenticity and you have a lovely place to spend a few hours. A hidden gem!

I’ve been to the 17th century village many times and it’s always wonderful. It was great to go back at last the other day. The ‘citizens’ of the village stay in character and speak about their lives in 1642. They enjoy showing you what they’re working on; we spoke to the dairymaids, weavers, innkeeper, blacksmith and many others. It’s a hidden gem in Gosport right next to a nature reserve. It’s so pretty with all the historic buildings and dappled light from the trees. In the shop I always enjoy buying pottery made and fired in the kiln on site, and naturally dyed yarn. There’s lots of inexpensive items for children to buy too.

Thank you to all the volunteers for another great visit. We’ll be back next year and will continue recommending it to our friends.

Today was the best day I've spent in a while. Everyone involved there was polite, knowledgeable, but more importantly, they were fun to talk to. They really knew what they were talking about and seemed to enjoy their particular subject. It was fun and educational at once. I'd recommend this to anyone visiting the area. But a warning, we arrived there half hour after opening time and we were still chatting away to people at closing time!!

What an amazing find. Set in the middle of a housing estate, surrounded by woodland you step back in time to the 17th century. Manned by very knowledgeable volunteers you get a glimpse of history as it truly was. Cannot recommend this enough.

We did a forge day and spent the whole day with Dave, the Blacksmith.
We had the most amazing time and I can only highly recommend the experience.
Dave is very knowledgeable, skilled and patient with us newbys!
We made some nails, hooks and a choice of what we wanted to make. (I chose a wine holder for when we camp and my husband chose a fire poker) we will never underestimate the effort in such simple things again!

Beautiful and interesting place with enthusiastic volunteers. The price is also very reasonable. We will return (next time without our annoying dog!) to learn a bit more. Great museum to have on your doorstep like a little oasis!

Lived in the area for a number of years but hadn't heard of the living history village before - can't believe such a great attraction has been on the doorstep and unheard of for so long! Would definitely recommend for children and adults alike. Very interesting, learnt a lot, and all villagers knowledgeable and friendly.

When I was planning this visit I thought we'd only be an hour or so. How wrong I was! We paid our £5 entry fee and had a nice chat with the lady at the entrance who welcomed us to 1642 and told us to ask lots of questions, so we did. All of the volunteers were really knowledgeable and I learned about novel ways to use everything from fungi to urine. When I finally looked at my watch we had been there for just under 4 hours! Even my friend's son who's 12 thought it was great and now wants to be a potter :-)

A real step back and an education to a bygone age. A good visit for all the family which I have visited on several occasions.

If I had one criticism it would be that on occasions not all of the villagers are on site for demonstrations and inter action. This can only be a minor point however as the whole complex is staffed and managed by volunteers
