Spent a good 2 hours walking around this park. Was on holiday in that area. Didn't like paying for parking but understand the reason for charging.

They have an opening to the kitchen area and directly underneath this opening, where food is passed through to customers...they have a public bin. There is a sign which says “for cafe waste only” nearby. However, I didn’t see this sign and my toddler needed a nappy change having gone in the river (only a wet nappy from the water). So I popped the wet nappy in the bin along with rubbish from my food purchases at the cafe, and was confronted by an angry member of the public who told me I must remove the wet nappy from the bin. She then repeated this to staff and The staff then made very loud and obvious comments to another customer about me putting said nappy in the bin. After a lot of loud and abrupt comments behind the counter from staff, I felt pressured enough to return to the bin and pick the nappy out of it with my bear hands 😕 My confusion is this... A) If you are going to have a public bin in a child’s play area, why put it directly under the window right next to the kitchen where food is transferred back and forth therefore increasing the risk of flies and bacteria being passed on to food etc (why not just put it outside the food area?) B) why is it only for cafe waste? There are no other bins around that area? Very impractical at a child’s play park! And if you are going to moan about your customers to other customers, don’t do it within thier ear shot!

Response from Nslister, Manager at Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre
Responded Aug 26, 2020
Hi I’m sorry you had a disappointing visit but to make clear there is toilets that do have nappy bins within them , The bin that is by the cafe is just for cafe waste as we have to pay to dispose of our own rubbish , there are other bins by the children’s play area that you could have used . We hope next time you visit it is more enjoyable.

This park is very nice the putside seating area of the cafe is nice there is a canal area to walk past where dog walkers and couples or small groups go for a walk. The parking was £3.50 for up to 3 hpurs. The woodlands was a lovely walk and there is alao a large play area opposite the car park. It is a nice walk good for families, dog walkers, couples.

As this place is staffed by volunteers they do a good job with the food and inquiries. Just like so many places these days it can be spoiled by the "me first" generation whether that is people who must bring in pushchairs even when it is obvious there is insufficient room and dog owners who cannot/will not read signs saying dogs must be kept under control, not encouraging them to bark loudly and persistently.

Visited yesterday at about 4pm. Paid £3.70 to park (a car park which closed at 5pm). Went for a quick walk then back to the 'Open All Day'cafe which was closed. Never again. (It used to be good.)
