In mid-August the festivals take place and they occupy the entire square for bullfights. The day we were there, they had also put a huge stage in the center of the square for a concert that was going to take place at night, so we could barely get a small idea of what the square is like. And thank goodness we thought of going for a walk at noon, because at night they closed access for those of us who didn't have a ticket to the concert. In conclusion, I thought it was a shame. I understand that the holidays are celebrated, but it is quite disappointing to see the square so ugly when in reality it is very beautiful.

To enter the square they asked us 5€/pers.
We wanted to sit on a terrace outside the square but after waiting our turn, some from the village arrived and the waitress allowed them to sit. We couldn't get into the castle either, it was closed. A nonsense.

Without a doubt, one of the greatest attractions of Chinchón is its Plaza Mayor. It is of medieval origin, has several entrances and is quite irregular in shape. Its construction dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries and the 234 balconies that overlook it have green railings. The square has been used as a comedy corral, a bullring or a venue for various sacramental autos.
It has numerous bars and restaurants.
It is very touristy and is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Spain.

We return to Chinchon because from our first trip we were fascinated by this village and its magnificent "plaza mayor".
Beautiful at any time of the day.
Should be NO parking!
Certainly loading and unloading for activities but no parking at cars. Everything would be even more beautiful.
To enjoy this place we suggest spending at least one night.
Night lighting and a sunrise with very few cars will make the memory truly magical.
Then some definitely interesting excursions without the crowds of bigger resorts. Yeah, great.

This place will elicit a 'wow' on first glance. You are gripped by several factors. There is the downward slope. There is the dominance of a lighter shade of green. Finally, there are three storey buildings with wooden balconies [called 'claros'].surrounding most of the plaza. To say the least it is the heart and soul of the town, surrounded by many shops and restaurants. It is certainly one off the more spectacular plazas I have seen in Spain. If you enter from the southwest, the Iglesia de Ntra. Sta. de la Asuncion towers over the plaza.

Once you enter the square and sit in any of its bars to have a drink while you look at those balconies and arcades, you don't feel like leaving there. We were there at sunset and saw the lighting that is very beautiful to see. It is the most recommended place in Chinchón along with the castle

It is true that when you have very high expectations, disappointment arises. Chinchón as a village seemed to me to be one of the many beautiful villages in Europe, for example. Its main square is worth seeing, yes. As long as they do not have for weeks the installation of the bullring, which prevents the enjoyment of it. Weeks! I was told in the village that the facility was unused. Added to that are the many cars parked in it, which gives it a medieval air... So the main attraction of the place, is shadowed. Coupled with that, in front of the viewpoint of the church, which is worth climbing, they have `primarily paved! a street, for horror after horror. Not to mention the €3 charged for a 330 ml bottle of water on a terrace.

A beautiful square. And very big. The square is surrounded by green arches on columns. The church and the clock tower can be seen and, through a gallery, you can climb to them. This viewpoint is a plus. There are many bars and restaurants in the square with its terraces. The tourist train also passes through here. An hour-long excursion by public transport from Conde de Casal highly recommended.

Chinchón is one of those towns that dazzle. It has been listed as one of "The Most Beautiful Towns in Spain" since 2017. It deserves a relaxed visit through its streets and monuments. The town is famous for its anise liquor, its garlic and for a rich gastronomy in which its roast lamb and suckling pig stand out. This “very noble and very loyal” town, in the words of Philip V, never disappoints. It is worth getting lost in its streets.

Lovely little town, close to Madrid. Stopped here for a drink in the sunshine in this typical Spanish town center on our way back to Madrid from Toledo.Sunday afternoon, not many tourists, but a lot of joyful locals with families.
Truely beautiful.
