Best market I’ve ever visited. So many stalls with quality jewellery, clothes & leather goods. Street food stalls too. Never seen such a big market. Wow!

Arta isn’t as well known as it should be. As a town it still retains a genuinely Mallorcian feel. And on market day it comes alive. The market has grown over the years and is now very varied, covers two squares and extends into a number of streets. As well as the traditional tourist fare of clothing, leather goods, jewellery and some artisan soaps, honeys etc it is now starting to get some good street food stalls. Don’t miss the covered food market off the corner of the main square -locals as well as tourists shop here. Make a day of it. There are plenty of restaurants for lunch and the walk up the castle and church steps is a gem! It’s busy so if you are driving in grab any parking space you see, and be prepared to have to search for a parking space and walk 5-10 Minutes to get into the centre.

We visited the market in Arta on the 14th May 2019 and were pleasantly surprised having also visited Alcudia and Pollensa markets in previous years. By midday it was certainly busy and the main carpark almost full. We will go again and would prefer Arta over the others.

When visiting Mallorca and staying on the South of the Island this place and market is a must. It has a great local feel to it and so many cafe’s for food and drink it is perfect. I read a review that said this was not upto much but that was November and I went in April and it was a fantastic day taking in the market and cafe’s and then a walk around the castle with its superb views. Would highly recommend.

This is a beautiful quiet old town. A group of walkers visited and enjoyed lunch in the square. Market Day we heard is very busy. Interesting Craft Centre. Easy to get to Arta on local buses.

Visited Arta on Market day completely by accident and was absolutely blown away. A varied mix of stalls for the locals and for tourists. Lots of stalls with hand made products and home grown. There is something for everyone. I came away with a lovely hand dyed, embroidered scarf for a very reasonable price, both vendor and I were very happy. Arta itself is a beautiful town with gorgeous narrow streets leading to a beautiful tree lined square.

So these markets are okay, but nothing compared to a good French one. Some fresh produce and local bits and bobs, but mostly low quality clothing with a few leather products, always somehow dissapointing!

The market on a Tuesday morning is well worth a visit, just make sure you get there early before the coaches arrive! The are many locally produce crafts and some fantastic meats, fruits and baked goods.
You'll find the market spreads across numerous streets so be prepared for walking.
