There is no doubt that the Jaizkibel is a very attractive road to drive and is certainly a good alternative to the motorway between Hondarribia and San Sebastián.
It is a road with lots of twists and turns, but isn’t difficult at all. It goes through some lovely countryside, but please take some reviews with a pinch of salt and don’t expect a coastal road. Granted, at times you will get glimpses of the sea, but a look at the map beforehand will tell you that for much of the route you are quite a long way from the coast.
Certainly worth driving anyway.

My wife and I went after receiving a lunch there as a present and what a present it was! It has a short but well ballanced menu, but if you want to taste a bit of the top plates, the tasting menu is a great option.

We were recommended to take this route from our hotel in Saint Jean de Luz. It was breathtakingly spectacular. Not many cars on the route and just in awe of the scenario. Stay away from the autoroute and take this road.

The area is beautiful with stunning views and lots of opportunities to explore the rocky shoreline. It was apparently bird hunting season during our visit so lots of hunters in the blinds, numerous unnerving gun shots and the occasional falling pellets in some portions of the trail.

The Hotel is more than an OK. Comfortable and peaceful. Rooms are spacious and the common zones are friendly and warm.... there is a small parking and the sorrounds are beautiful.. The staff is so kind and friendly. You feel like being at home. Intimate and quiet. There are only a few rooms so make sure to book within time. Don’t forget that this hotel is located in Hondarribia.... one of the most favourites places to visit from the Basque Country. But for me, the best of the rest is the Restaurant. If you’re a customer staying at the hotel they serve you a dinner with a special price. It amazing... all the menu is out-standing. I recommend you any fish they have, and the desserts (Tatin, cheesecake...) are simply amazing.... it’s one of the finest restaurants I have ever been in that Country. Don’t miss the restaurant even if you’re not staying there.

We took advantage of the clear weather that afternoon to go up for an amazing view of the coast. From the top you get a 360-degree view along the coast and also inland towards the mountain ranges. You can see for miles up the French coast - all the beaches and coves and you also great superb views of Irun/Hondarribia and Hendaye below.

I would like to know if there are any guides working on Jan. 2 or Jan. 3 in this area. We would like someone knowledgeable about the maritime history who can take us to hike Jaizkibel mountain and to the factory museum in Albaola.
