So clean and beautiful. I hope that it remains as untouchable as it is, perfect for anyone who wants a good hiking and a nice swim afterwards.

Amazing place must have seen. You can also swim there and watch people doing canyoning when there is bad wetter, just wait a little and the weather will turn nice.

We walked from Caldeiras de Ribeira Grande to this spot along the hiking trail, and it's ingenious in the way it uses a giant pipe (which services the hydro electric dam next to the waterfall) as part of the route. The heights on this route by the waterfall are something else!

I'd also recommend visiting the abandoned dam at the Caldeiras de Ribeira Grande end of this route, which we almost didn't do but was absolutely worth the 10-15 minute detour.

Fantastic hike although we saw more people on the hike to this waterfall than just about any other hike. It’s beautiful and very popular.

The hike was absolutely lovely! The start location was easy to findé The path was easy to follow. The difficulty level adequately assessed. PRC 29 SMI is a must :)

We visited here after going to Lagoa do Fogo. We didn't do the long hike, instead we drove past Caldeira Velha, and turned off the road at the sign for Salto do Cabrito. We parked at the lot near the white building. There’s a road that continues down, but it’s incredibly steep. Most cars parked where we did.

The walk down is on a road. As mentioned it is steep but not terribly long. Continue walking straight at the end of the road to the second parking lot. You’ll hear the waterfall and it’s a short walk from there. This is a large, beautiful waterfall.

There’s a much longer, more scenic hike to the waterfalls that leaves from a different area, but we decided to take this short cut.

There's also a dam to see here and a short walk to see a scenic part of the river.

In the summer i imagine this would be a great place to cool off!!

First off, unless you find it tough to walk then instead of following the sign posts to the waterfall, I would recommend parking in Caldeiras (Caldeiras da, Ribeira Grande, Portugal), and walking up and over the hill. You walk up the hill towards Barragem Dam and then turn right and basically follow a pipe all the way down. The footpath is well signposted (yellow and red paint) and the walk is interesting.

Along the route you will see some old buildings before you walk along the water pipe to the top of the waterfall. There are some high sections so it's not for those scared of heights! You can then descend some really steep steps down to the power station (which does hum, but honestly isn't that loud and you'll forget it's there) from where you can access the base of the falls.

We went at the end of October and there were about 10 people there, but I can imagine it's really busy in peak season, so take that into consideration.

I’ve visited a lot of waterfalls in my time but this one was really nice. It’s a shame the HEP station basically drained the river of much of its water so it’s not a raging torrent but equally if the HEP company are funding the access then that’s great. It’s a lovely little spot for a picnic.

The waterfall was very nice and worth a stop. We stopped by after Ribeira Grande on our way to Caldeira Velha. I completely forgot that you can swim there, so maybe bring your swimsuit it looked very refreshing and nice :)

To be honest I would not recommend this waterfall in particular. There are nicer ones to see on São Miguel.

The walk to the waterfall is quite steep and may not be easily accessible for everyone. Fortunately, you can drive quite close. Still, the steepest part you will have to do on foot. Make sure you bring some water for yourself as there are no amenities at the waterfall.

The beauty of it is somewhat spoiled by the nearby power plant. You will hear the noise constantly.

If you do decide to go, time your visit to be very early in the day. You will meet a lot of other tourists there and some of the adventure/ climbing companies take people to this waterfall to abseil. If you want to take photographs with no people in it you may end up waiting for a long while.
