About
Located in the village of Arraiolos, one hour away from Lisbon, Monte da Ravasqueira has maintained a three-generation link to the Jose de Mello family since 1943. The vast area of typical Alentejo landscape and the unique geological and climatic conditions found here led Jose Manuel de Mello to believe that Monte da Ravasqueira had everything to be a producer of high-quality wines. Today, Monte da Ravasqueira extends over approximately 3,000 hectares, 45 of which are dedicated to vineyards. In keeping with the quality and character of its wines, blending tradition, innovation, and dedication to the art and science of winemaking. Monte da Ravasqueira also develops other activities related to cork, cattle, fattening of the Alentejo black pig, as well as the production of honey and olive oil, besides the wine tourism activities such as especially designed wine tasting, courses, and visits.

We LOVED this place. Our tour guide was super friendly, knowledgable, informative, and helpful. The estate is beautiful, and the wine tasting area is as well. The carriage house and entire history of horses and the estate is really fascinating and added a whole extra (cool) dimension to the tour. The wines were fantastic, and we ended up buying some to bring home. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone going to the Alentejo region. MUST DO!

What a neat find off the beaten path, rich with a Portuguese family history. We started with a tour of the carriage (horse drawn) museum. Beautifully restored and/or maintained carriages. The tile work on the walls, though sometimes hard to see behind the carriages, is stunning.

Due to Covid they are not doing tours of the wine production areas, but we did walk through the vineyards. Then it was back to the tasting room to experience 5 of their reserve wines. They were nice as well.

A great experience.

Definitely worth paying a little more for the premium wine tasting. A lovely little tour around the estate visiting the vineyard and learning a little about the history of Monte da Ravasquiera, a short history, it's a new vineyard!
Our guide was very friendly and informative, spoke impeccable English and allowed lots of time for photos and questions. Wine absolutely delicious and very accommodating when I said I wasn't so keen on red wines.

Really enjoyed our visit here and our guide/hostess Carolina was superb and really friendly. You also get to see the owner's quite extensive collection of old horse carriages. They also gave us a superb restaurant recommendation in Arraiolos......O Alpendre.....delicious.

Arrived for a wine tasting at 3pm and left at sunset after a visit of their horse carriage museum.
Quite an enjoyable afternoon with our guide. Will taste their Vinhas das Romas over Christmas 😊.
Need to book in advance on their web site.

The place is quite nice and huge. Shows great potential for a visit but we did not have the opportunity. We went on Thursday and there was only one employee who was not available. We waited for over 30 minutes and she was not very accomodating. We went back the next day and quite frankly she was rude. We bought some wine and went on our way. Quite disapponinting. If you can, ask for someone that is not named Ines.... (we didn't see anyone else...)

The estate is beautiful — and impressive! We toured Monte da Ravasqueira on a Sunday in February, so the grapes weren’t growing yet. The vineyards stretch out in all directions and we were led through them to the processing plant, which itself was impressively large. Production wasn’t taking place since it was Sunday, but it was still interesting to see. We also visited the on-site carriage museum, with horse-drawn carriages dating back to the 18th Century. I never thought I’d need to see that, but am surprisingly glad I did! And, finally, we did a wine tasting of six of their excellent (and affordable) wines.

Three of us visited this lovely winery and enjoyed walking the flower lined walkways and beautiful buildings in blue and white. We started with an introduction of the winery followed by a tasty lunch in a very nicely decorated dining room. What was especially nice was the use of the products in a discreet manner to try accompanied by the buffet meal. The meal was paired with the wines. Staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We also enjoyed a tour of the private carriage house which was impressive and historic. We all enjoyed the variety of this tour and of course the availability of the products for sale in the shop as well as local handmade bread bags and rolls!! Looking forward to a return trip.

Loved the tour- so much history of horse racing and creating a winery by this family. There is a collection of old carriages that is super fun. It was great to learn about the process of winemaking and to see the different maps used to analyze weather, soil, plants to ensure the best wine is made. Our tour guide Pedro was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. We had a lunch that included 5 wines to try, 2 bean salads, cilantro soup, duck sausage crispy rice, cornbread encrusted cod (cod is very common in Portugal), salad, and their egg based dessert that looks like yams but is not. They opened in their shop and it’s cost effective to purchase wines here. Great experience and beautiful property as well as stunning wines!
