About
Built at the summit of Mount Ricco that overlooks the centre of Asolo, the mighty edifice in irregular polygon style of the fortress (average height 15 metres and a width of 2.5 metres for the north and west sides and 3.5 metres for the other sides) dates back to a period spanning the middle-end of twelfth century to the beginning of the thirteenth century. From the buttresses of the fortress that underwent massive work to restore them in the 1980’s and 90’s it is today possible to enjoy a bird’s eye view and a 360° view of the horizon from the Po plain to the entire arc of the surrounding mountains. On clear days and with good light one can clearly make out the lagoon of Venice.ticket: 2€ (free under 6 years old)Opening time: saturday, sunday, public holiday10-17 november to march10-19 april to june10-12 / 15-19 july and august

We take our 3yr old up to this castle regularly.
It’s a good walk for her and also a challenge for us to carry her up the stairs especially on a hot day. You get amazing views of the area on the path up and also from the castle.
The path is lined with olive trees and a true Italian feel.
On a clear day you can see all around the area from the top of the castle and different views from all sides.
The cost is €2 euros to enter per person and our daughter is free.

Take a day to walk and climb all over this town. Have a spritz at cafe centralle, climb the winding road to the rock, eat a delicious pizza and enjoy this gem of outstanding beauty overlooking miles of prosecco vineyards. I love this place, one of the highlights of an amazing time in Italy!

Rocca di Asolo is a massive ruin on top of a hill overlooking the Veneto and in the distance the Dolomitic mountains. To get there from Asolo which in itself is already a climb you need to walk another several hundred stairs (in great shape). There are some excavations and remains from various eras of settlement but the real reward is the spectacular view from the top of the castle ruins. There is a walk around path which offers uninhibited 360 degree views. After the descent there are nice places to have a prosecco and some cheese.

It is a steep climb, but worth it. It is open Sunday and is 2 Euros to enter. Take your time on the steps and enjoy the views as you go up. I was motivated because I know I am going to have a terrific dinner at Villa Cipriani tonight. Go early and avoid the crowds!

When visiting the historic hilltop village of Asolo, in the foothills of the italian Alps, make sure you climb up the Rocca, a fortification dating back to the 12th century. The best part of this visit is the views and the wonderful walk that departs from the Rocca d'Asolo and follows the range of hills all the way to the Rocca di Cornuda.
Immerse yourself in the wild woods and streams, with stunning views of the mountains and plains.
Best in all seasons.

Drove up as far as we could and walked rest of the way. It is closed for restoration but the view is worth the hike.

Now, do you feel a tad energetic or after a good lunch do you feel in need to walk it off? Then there is no better place than to walk up to the "Rocca d'Asolo" and be rewarded by a great view of the beginning of the Padana plain to the south and the mountains to the north. Don't do this walk in the summer after 10.00am as it would be too hot, but from October till May you can do this at any time of the day.

My wife and I decided to go for a hike early in the AM. We started up the steps to La Rocca and before we knew it we were overlooking the entire countryside. It's not an easy hike, but well worth it and the €2.

Asolo- The City of a Hundred Horizons- this Jewel in Northern Italy is a must see. The small shops, caffees, patisserie... Asolo has its own taste and smell. Once you see the sunset is to approach, run up the stairs to the Rocca. Then you will see the spell of the golden red city.
