- A C1 contributionDon't Skip Castello di BrolioMy husband and I did a private tour and tasting and it was the highlight of our trip. We are avid wine drinkers and we've done many tours throughout the U.S. This place is special. The tour was amazing and the wine was delicious. I HIGHLY recommend doing the private tour where you get to do your tasting inside the family's dining room. We also visited Antinori in Chianti which won best winery in the world last year. Castello di Brolio far out-shined Antinori. And the restaurant set among the tall trees was a whole other fantastic experience. Service, setting and food were all top notch.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 16, 2023
- Herbert PNyon, Switzerland23 contributionsA nice experience of the Chianti regionA very impressive building sitting on top of a small hill in Tuscany ( as they do, I hasten to say) and a great name in wines to it. For "beginner" to wine tasting and buying a good combination of historic architecture, good tasting experience and fine setting. Wines above average both in quality and price level, helpful sommeliers and acceptablem price level for the experience. Basically true to expectations, recommended if you are in the area and want to experience a fine combination of a historic place, a renowned winery and some helpful advice for entry level wine buffs.Visited September 2022Traveled with friendsWritten April 7, 2023

Vera our guide was tremendous and full of stories and some good humor. The view from the castle are awesome and we also witnessed a bit of grape crushing on our tour. So, I will start the review by telling you that the Grand Seletzione di Castello di Brolio is my favorite ever Italian red wine but booking the sunset tour was the worst mistake I did in my many visits in the area. First of all, even if the tour guide was super nice the visit was only 40 minutes long because the others in the group were late. Second of all, despite the stunning castle and the stunning view from the gardens, the short and speedy tour had nothing to do with wine but only with the history of the Riscasoli family wich wasn’t that interesting. After the short 40 minutes we headed to the restaurant for the “tasting” and the dinner. I must recall that we payed 70 euros each for this joke of a tour. So, the so called tasting consisted in a very small amount(about a tenth of a glass) of the worst two wines produced here. The rose wich costs around 15 euros a bottle but it’s one of the worst roses i ever put my lips on and a sip of chianti clasico(aprox 20 euros a bottle) from two years ago wich was still to acid to be enjoyed. I must insist that we payed 70 euros Each for this. The dinner was more than terrible. Gnocchi super overcooked, a main course where they massacred a fillet mignon by drying it in the oven like amateurs. In the middle of the dinner we decided to leave because 2 sips of mediocre wine and terrible food are not my kind of evening in Chianti. Even if I will continue to buy the Grand Selezione from Castello di Brolio from my local cavist I will never step foot near this place. Literally the worst way to spend an evening in Chianti if you know a thing or two about wine and food.

Visiting the castle will be among our fondest memories of Tuscany. We arrived in the late afternoon in search of wine tasting and were drawn to the castle above. Our garden tour ticket allowed us to visit the lovely grounds and stroll along the perimeter of the castle where the panoramic views of the region are stunning—like a painting. Rays of light were streaming through the clouds as thunder rumbled in the distance. Church bells rang in the distance. We had almost the whole grounds to ourselves. This is an authentic experience and even more photogenic as tourist spots such as San Gimignano, which was overrun with people. What a lovely surprise!

We stopped for lunch at the bar & had the meat & cheese platter which was lovely.
We then decided to go up to the Castle, (it's a very steep climb in the heat!). We paid €7 each to visit the outside of the castle & Gardens which were lovely. Included in the price was a free sample of wine in the wine shop.
Worth a visit

This was a terrific experience. The oldest wineries in Italy. We booked the classic tour 35€ pp online weeks ahead. Susannah our tour guide with a German accent was an excellent guide to the castles history the winery production and the tasting session. The 90 minute tour was much longer and comprehensive.

nice castle in the Chianti region. A good walk and a good pause while travelling for a day trip in the region. Wine is excellent and the Osteria is a good place where to stop. Also the Agribar down the road is an excellen place for a "tagliere Toscano" a set of Tuscan antipasti to share with csome Chianti.

We had one of the last sunset tours of the year, at the end of September. The tour starts at 6 PM and continues about an hour. It’s necessary to book online (and prepay) in advance as it gets fully booked (there are 20 people in the group). Stefano, our guide, was very nice and had a couple of jokes up his sleeve. He took us around the property, giving us some info about its history and then to the family chapel where Ricasoli members are buried, including Bettino Ricasoli, the creator of Chianti wine recipe. After that we visited a couple of rooms that are arranged as a museum, very interesting. The tour ends on a spectacular terrace that is huge and beautiful and absolutely breathtaking!!! During the sunset it’s a view worth the trip! I’m sure this terrace is beautiful at any time of the day but with the golden light of the sun, it was quite magical. Really recommended. Too bad there is no wine store to visit after to buy some wine. But the experience includes the dinner at their Osteria where you are offered three wines with your meal. We liked that as well.

Worst experience of our entire trip to Italy! If you're expecting anything remotely connected to wines or a winery experience, this is not it! The tour was boring and long, and way too expensive for the so'called "bargain", and the concierge at the La Bagnaia Golf & Spa Resort Siena, Curio by Hilton definitely didn't do us any favors sending us to this place! It was tortuous all the way around! Whatever you do, Don't get the sunset tour with dinner! It was the most disgusting food and a total waste of time! We sat for over half an hour waiting for our food and they couldn't even get it right after several tries! Waiter were rude. We ended up walking out! A totally disappointing and horrible experience! If you're into boring castle tours and a not so friendly or delicious food experience, then you'll love it!

We will be visiting Brolio and don't necessarily want to do a guided tour. Even after looking at their website, we are a bit confused. We'd like to see the gardens and the Ricasoli Collection. Do we have to do a tour to see these things?

Thank you for the request. To visit the gardens, private chapel and Ricasoli Collection (closed every Monday) you do not need any reservation.
The ticket office is open every day 10am-6pm and the availability for the Ricasoli Collection is to check upon your arrival.
I am to your disposal for any further information.
Best regards,

Hello, I checked the castle website, they offer a tour which includes dinner in the sunset. I will appreciate any review or comments about it. Thanks!

Let me tell you that it would be a great idea!
The castle and tour is a view inside the Italian XIX century when Baron Ricasoli became Prime Minister of the Younger Italy. But the dinner is able to satisfy your material sensation. The meals are very very good. I suggest you to test the wines at the enoteche at the and of the tour so you can order - during the dinner - the best red wine for you. My best is Brolio Riserva 2014.
Ciao

I write a review about a castle in Tuscany, and you want me to tell you what it "costs" to visit someplace in ROME? Get serious. You need to learn about a little think called "Google".
