Good place for couples, families or solo women travelers. I visited twice, once alone by walking up the steep, unpaved path up to the top and once by car. Both times there were very few people and it was incredibly relaxing. There’s about a two block walk up an incline from the small parking area to the restaurant, half of it in shade. Great views and breeze. Also a few benches and a few places to sit in the shade on the grass near the pond. A family decided to come play soccer in the shade with their young kids right next to where we were sitting, despite a near empty park. Of course a little one kicked a ball right at us. Whatever. I mention it to provide ideas if you’re traveling with kids who need a wide open space to run around in.

It is a unmissable spot when you visit Arona. It is one of my favourite place and the location is amazing. During the years the ruins of the castle have been restored and now they are the perfect background to this park.
The view is simply amazing....no doubts that it is the best view of the Lake Maggiore

Every year i come to back to Arona and i cannot leave without going to the Rocca. It is simply the best spot of Arona. The view of the city and of the lake is amazing. It is an absolutely must do when you are on the lake!

A great spot with a great panoramic view of Lago Maggiore.
The park is very well kept and lovely for an afternoon just hanging in the shade of some tree or other.
The bar serves a great coffee. I suggest the "taglieri" and the pizza.

Less than 40 minutes from Malpensa, on the southern shore of Lake Maggorie, sourounded by mountains, Arona oozes Italy. The wide promenade runs the length of the city with the lake on one side and cozy streetside restaurants on the other. When you land by train or bus, you are just steps from the center of the town and the shopping promenade. Tuesday is an amazing 'Flea Market' with at least a hundred vendors with wonderful quality merchandise. From the port are there are boats to many places on this second largest lake in Italy. one of my favorite days is the Laggo Maggorie Express. you will board the train for a scenic 2 hour train ride to Domodossola. from ther you board a small local train that takes you on a 1.5 hour slow train ride through the Italian Alps with scenery you can't get enough of, to Locarno Switzerland. After about an hour or so in Locarno you board the Valpensa Ferry for a 3.5 hour cruise back to Arona. you will be stopping at several notable places on the lake. Stressa, the Bormmeo Castle and others. you may have dinner on the boast as well as cocktails.
My favorite thing about Arona are the off the beaten path restaurants. Arona boasts one of the premier hotel and restaurant schools of Italy and several of the instructors own outstanding little (some large) restaurants that will amaze you. The little places along the Promenade are fine for a cocktail or snack but for the true flavor of Italy, seek out the little places along the side streets. One of my many favorites is Calicanto. Just about 2.5 blocks off the main street in an old villa that reeks history. On a sunny day you may be seated on the patio overlooking the gardens! Inside is elegantly casual but service is always formal. The food is always prepared fresh, no package or frozen. The menu is extensive. They do weddings, business meetings, special events and romantic dinners for two. You will not be disappointed. Info@ilcalicanto.biz

We had fun exploring this large castle. It has a HUGE doll museum that is (my guess) one of the largest and best in the world. I mean, the collection went on and on with tons of dolls and toys from the 16th century and on. Climbing up to the top tower gave spectacular views of Lake Magiore. There's also a small cafe.

This a park amid ruins of a castle, close to the town of Arona. It is a vantage viewing spot to view the town of Arona, Lake Maggiore and the castle across the lake.
You can reach the top of the hill on foot or by car. There is a toy train on wheels, which takes you from Arona to the top of this hill. The park is reasonable well maintained with green grass and the ruins are cordoned off with wooden poles. There is a bar and restaurant on top of the hill.

Really a wonderful place to take in the views of Arona and Lake Maggiore as well as take in some history. No better place to sit on a beautiful day anywhere in Arona other than the possibly the "Speakeasy" enjoying one of their many specialty drinks!

its a 20 minute hike uphill to the castle, where you head straight to the bar and sit to take in the views. Even better, the house is accessible to the top where the views are even more spectacular. I would imagine in summer this place would be very crowded. worth a visit.

Ciao,
