About
The museum complex of Sarnano is located in Via Leopardi, in the medieval town, inside the former convent of Santa Chiara. Inside the museum you can find the Pinacoteca, the Museum of Sacred Art, the Museum of Ancient and Modern Weapons, the Museum of the Avifauna of the Sibillini and the Martelli Museum. The collection of works by the Sarnanese painter Mariano Gavasci is displayed inside the Palazzo del Municipio, also in Via Leopardi. Currently some areas of the museum are not open to the public, but the Civic Art Gallery is completely open to visitors and also the Collazione di Martelli: the other sections, now closed for works, will be reopened soon.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am an american/canadian who lives part of the year in Sarnano.
This is a great small museum, like many others in Italy. It is local, it is national. It has some wonderful things, some things you will pass by, But remember, this is a town of 3,500 people. where else would you have something this great, Painitings, arms, tools. all good, Be sure to stop buy. well lit and clean. When i am gone, i will leave some things for ....forever.

The museum is very small, with some nice paintings which make it worth visiting. It also includes a donation from a private collection of hammers from all over the world.
Most unusual and rather interesting. There is also an exhibit of weapons form the world, and a rather harrowing but undoubtedly interesting collecion of stuffed birds.
Don't miss it if you are in Sarnano.

We visited the beaches at Senigallia after our stay in Sarnano for a week. Loved the local attractions such as Castle Roca Roveresca.

The pinacoteca (or art gallery)
Apr 2014 • Solo
There's a small pinacoteca attached to the museum with, among other works, a beautiful Madonna and Child by Vittore Crivelli. I went only for the art gallery; others might want to combine it with a visit to the museum - I believe it also has an excellent section devoted to the birds of the Monti Sibillini.

(The pinacoteca also has a lovely Deposition by Pagani, whose famous Annunciation is kept in the Gallery of the Marches in the Ducal Palace at Urbino.)
