Marche and Macerata's countryside are considered the land of theaters and Teatro Lauro Rossi, with its old tradition, is one of the most beautiful and important one. Macerata is a city that appreciate culture, music and opera. There are many festivals as Ratata (comix festival) Macerata Racconta (licterature festival) Opera Festival, Musicultura (music Festival). Teatro Lauro Rossi is mostly used in winter with exelent exhibitions of classical music (Appassionata is a very high level festival) and prose shows. People from Macerata are used to very high level representations and Lauro Rossi is an exellent place for that. Is beautiful, it deserve a visit, its just few meters from the astronomical watch and the clock tower.

The theatre is in Piazza della Libertá, right on the side of the Civic Tower. It is free to visit, a wonderful lady welcomed me and let me in, a bit before 13h00.
It was build in the 19th century, finished in 1884, and named after the musician Lauro Rossi, being a project of the architect Antonio Galli. It was built because the citizens of Macerata decided to build a proper theatre.
The place is beautiful as you can see by the pictures, and it must have a good acoustic.
If close by, I recommend a short visit! And it is free!

We wandered into the theater (entry is free), climbed the steps to the various upper levels, took pictures from the boxes and stalls, heard a man having voice lessons and his accomplished pianist and used the rest rooms (a rare commodity in an Italian city). It is a lovely old theater, which seemed to have excellent acoustics and would be a great place to see and hear a concert or other performance. It is well worth visiting.
