    Relaxing day at the lake
An easy trip out of the city (we took the train from the Tiburtina station, but you can also take it from Ostiense). It was a short trip, about 45 minutes, then we hiked to the lake (which was a hot, dry and dusty walk) but opted for the shuttle service (2 euros each) when we left. The lake was gorgeous, clear and refreshing. The beach was relaxing (not crowded like the seaside beaches), and there was shade to enjoy our picnic lunch (there is an amazing grocery store near the train station in Anguillara). When we had had enough, the shuttle driver picked us up right at the beach and drove us to the train station (instead of the parking lot....best driver ever!). Highly recommend this as a day trip to anyone looking for a break from the city and the monuments etc and who just wants to relax in nature.

    una oasi... accerchiata dal malcostume
Io a Martignano ci abito...

I think it is telling that most other reviews are from over a year ago ... We've been coming to this beautiful little lake for the better part of 20 years. There used to be a series of kiosks where you could eat, and people would rent you boats and deck chairs. It was very well organised, and the people who worked there kept it clean and tidy. Being spacious, you never felt crowded. It also kept a substantial number of local people employed. Last year we went there and found everything removed. There was filth everywhere, and a state of complete abandon. We'd been told the park had intervened to "clean things". Hoping to see things improved this year, we just went and again found the same state of neglect and filth. What a shame ...

This lake is like a paradise, no words to describe it. I have visited this place few times in my past and this year i wanted to show it to my friends visiting me in rome but there was a thing i did not like this time. The comune of anguillara imposed this new fee of 5 eur to parc your car 2,5 km down from the lake and then they charge you additional 2 eur per person to drive you to the lake. But this is not all, they actually do not drive you down to the lake, they leave you 800 meters away from the lake on a dusty road on which walking is not a pleasant experience because you inhale so much dust from cars passing(those cars have some special permit i guess to go down) i hope they change this weird rule quite soon bcos the lake is so beautiful and some good food can be found down there as well.

Lake in what was once a volcanic cone. No road traffic. Beautiful location. Good for swimming. Lots of tall trees giving shade in hot weather. Several simple bar/restaurants.

Lago di Martignano is tucked away over a hillside next to Lake Bracciano - much smaller and quieter. Take the road from the centre of Anguillara towards the station and take a left beside a little chapel just past the turning for Trevignano. Just after narrow bridge take a right to big car park in a field. 5 euro for the day plus 2 euro per person for the 'navetta' (little bus) to the lake. It drops you at the top of a dusty hill. Follow the path down (closed shoes a good idea - high heels not) and you'll soon see why you bothered coming. The navetta is new this year and much complained about by the locals but it means the lake is quieter once you get there. You can swim, canoe, sail (if the wind gets up in the afternoon) or take a pedalo. Lie in the shade of a tree or take sunbeds and an 'ombrellone'. Enzo dai Salici has friendly staff who speak good English. Good bar with sandwiches and hot food. And lots of room for picnics and children. About an hour by car from central Rome. Great place to escape the heat and the crowds.

Amazing quit surround. Spectacular ash layers are the evident
to the violent of this dead volcano.
It was a volcano that became to caldera called now Lago di Bracciano.
Take a tour around, enjoy the landscape, the geology and be care not to awake up the volcano...

This particular lake satisfies the needs of most travelers, from the thrill seeker to the traveler who would just like to relax under a shady umbrella in the green grass. Kayaks, canoes, pedalos, and umbrellas are available for rent and there is a concession stand on the premises. As far as parking goes, there is a shuttle service for 4-8 euros that takes you from the parking lot to the lake on demand! (just call them and tell them to come pick you up)
