We came to Lago del Predil yesterday and had such a great time. It's perfect for swimming, cooling on a hot summer day... It's surrounded with beautiful mountains and peaks. It's very close to a spectacular high road of Mangart (Slovenia). Since we are from the coastal country (Croatia) and have a lot of sea and islands we are delighted to come to Predil once in a while for a nice change. There's a beautiful road towards Chiusaforte with lots of peaks around. It's also very near to a charming town of Tarvisio. If you're a nature lover it's a must!!!! 👍

We live in Trenta and usually go and visit Lake Bled or Bohinj which takes between 2-2:30 hours and is a pain to drive to as the mountain pass is so bendy. Irritatingly as the crow flies the lakes are only around 20 miles away but a great big mountain's in the way.

So when a friend recommended Lago del Predil over the border in Italy we have it a try.

Getting there from Bovec was easy via the Predil pass. A good tip was as you go past the lake was to ignore the car park and continue to the other end of the lake; past a memorial on your right and soon on the left were some spaces and a dirt track leading to the lake.

The best place to sit was towards the middle as the water is warmer there.

Majestic lake, really quiet, quite cold but welcome on a hot day.

We really enjoyed it. If you have young kids bring a sun shade as it is really open.

I actually arrived there by coincidence. I spent the day there sun bathing and renting a pedal in the lake. The weather was really good and the view is amazing. I would totally recommend going there.

We swam 1.5km in the 11 degree waters. It was 'refreshing'. But the setting is stunning with many campervans pulling up for lunch on the beach.

This lake is not hard to reach , but once you get there you are rewarded! The water is very clear and the mountains surrounding the place are impressive!

Not the biggest or prettiest lake in the area but beautiful all the same. Frozen solid this time of year. Fun to see the kids and dog on the ice. Small cafe overlooking the lake but it was closed. A nice coffee would have been good. Some fantastic roads to this lake and excellent views.

Really nice big.lake up in the mountains of northern Italy, surrounded by stunning views.

Sides are rather top steep most of the way around for kids to get in, theres a bit of a shallower part on one side, but that's quite muddy. And it's pretty refreshing to swim in..

Biggest downside was some party tent with booming music ruining the peaceful setting, but that was hopefully just a one off thing

We stopped at this lake on way to bled. I'm so glad we did. It was very scenic with water, mountains, picnic area and more. I highly recommend everyone to make this stop for a few minutes to get some fantastic pictures.

Big lake surrounded with mountains worth a visit. It is just perfect. Lots of space and freeness to do whatever you wish. Sleepover in a tent at its shore was free and there were even chemical toilets. For the day activity we hiked around it. But you can also swim, sunbathe or rent sports equipment (windsurfing, kayak...). Water is clean and reflective. At its shore is also a bar and across the street a sight that is free. It still is to be fully modern (building sight) and probably all payable so grab an opportunity to enjoy it while nature is least spoiled.
