About a 30 min walk from Malia town centre, you'll find Malia Harbour, which has several beaches and more space than the town's beaches. Some of the hotels which back onto the beach, will allow non-residents to buy food and drink, but others won't. The water is deep blue but can be a little rocky so wear swimming shoes.
With some investment, good roads, restaurants and shops, the harbour could be a great feature, attracting more yachts and tourists.

My boyfriend and I spent a lot of time in Malia Port mainly as he wanted to go fishing, but I had a really great time dropping bread in and watching the many many exotic species of fish which would come and eat it, I must have spent around 5-6 hours over the week doing this, unfortunately, he never caught any fish, but I had a fantastic time, haha.

I whiled the hours away just watching the day trippers boats mooring in and the travellers coming in and out, chatting to tourists and spotting some amazing fish as the water is so clear you can see down really far.

There is an old wreck here as well and I highly recommend even spending an hour with a bread roll dropping it in, you will be amazed what you see.

Maybe not so good for Mullet fishing, but I think we maybe just had the wrong ideas about them.

I am really not one to accompany my man fishing, but I really loved spending time here.

Malia town is very lively and a favourite with roowdy British teenagers. The harbour doesn;t have much tot it except a cheap looking restaurant, The town itself is very commercialised and busy, and the beaches packed. Its a nice town though with some decent restaurants

This isn’t the most picturesque place in Crete but it is still worth visiting. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk from strip and it is an interesting walk to get there.

I recommend taking a bottle of water and perhaps a hat as the Sun is very hot and there’s just no shade here. Once you reach your destination you will see a pretty little harbour and a few nice boats.

We did it more for exercise then to see something beautiful.

Do not believe for Foto with old buildings and boats. It's not Malia. Malia is touristic town with good beach, tasty food and boring clubs... 🤔 to see the real Malia, go to old town, walk along narrow streets and have a dinner in small taverna near church. It's fantastic place

Malia harbour looks nice from top of the mountains but when we visited it , it was a deception as it is poor and not a toruristic attraction at all ; besides some local food reqstaurants nothing to offer

Not for me and I am only 40 years old. lots of teenagers going around on mopeds - very noisy. lots of clubs, restaurants, pubs. Good if you enjoy going to places called the bikini beach...

Having a lovely peaceful vacasion in Malia we found everything perfect except lots and lots of drunk disgasting young British who come to Malia and make this pretty town a bad fame:( They can't use alcohol and drugs in their own country because they're too young but here nobody asks how old are they! It's just business. So I wonder what they parents are thinking of when they let 16-17 y.o. boys and girls come here by themselves and give them money for it?! If they just saw what they are doing here they would surely regret. They drive bikes and quads drunk all night long, and then sleep on chaise lounges all day in the sun, get burnt and at night drink again…
And Malia itself is a beautiful place. See the pics:)

It's a working harbour. What more can I say. Don't expect luxury yachts etc.
We took a trip from there to Hersonissos bay and Sisi village. That was a good trip and recommended.
