Staff were all friendly and helpful, happy to move our ferry times around if we had issues with our baby and needed to come back early. The staff were really friendly, and I am happy to recommend their service. The location of the wharf is the hardest bit due to a sign that reads something like "no entry to public" - it's the dirt car park and the red wharf is the red painted on top of the wharf poles which you cannot see from the road.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- GreenTree108 contributionsGreat Christmas PartyThis year our company decided to shout its Rocky workers to a weekend on Great Keppel Island with accomodation, meals and transfers via Keppel Connections. Fun team time. Laid back place. Not crowded, fantastic food, welcoming staff, live music, not to mention the natural beauty of the place. Clear water and white sands ( great for the glutes). Our transfers were on time and staff on the ferries were happy people .Visited December 2023Traveled on businessWritten December 19, 2023

Our trip over with Keppel Island Konnections was brilliant as always . Lunch and drinks at the GKI Hideaway is always fantastic. A great location to spend New Years Eve with family and friends. - Clairecjones10 contributionsGreat serviceWe missed our early morning trip over to Keppel but every effort was made to get us on a later transfer despite it being very busy. Our day was not ruined and we had a lovely day on the island. Quick return back to the mainland and no delays.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 2, 2024
- Marita KSydney, Australia6 contributionsFriendly and SafeI am a new local here in Yeppoon - and each time I have visitors I am going to Great Keppel Island to snorkel, paddle board or hang out with friends. This month I went twice - each time the trip to the island in the morning was choppy but I never felt unsafe. The lovely crew already knows that I get scared when the swell is high ( not seasick thank goodness ) and recommend where to sit etc. to calm my nerves. Really good. They also take safety seriously which I like. Always good to be on their ferries!Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 20, 2024
- lisa l13 contributionsExcellent crew membersI was travelling across to GKI with my friend who is a very nervous traveler, The water was quite choppy and my friend was near hysterical from the moment we pulled out of the harbor. The 2 crew members were excellent in looking after her and one of them sat with her the whole way holding her hand & talking to her to calm her down. I can't thank them enough for their excellent service. Once we got off the boat she was fine & loved GKI, luckily the trip back was much easier and she quite enjoyed it.Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 3, 2024

We caught the ferry to GKI for the day and upgraded our tickets to include snorkeling gear. The ferry itself was comfortable and it was a fairly smooth ride across, with beautiful views of Yeppoon and the surrounding islands. Staff were friendly and the logistics of the day ran like clockwork.
We loved our time on the island, spectacular beaches, great views and some surprisingly good snorkeling right off Monkey Beach.
We took our own lunch but had a few well needed cold beers in the bar at the end of the day.
Great day all round.

On time, smooth and swift changeover and very helpful with luggage. The captain and crew were very friendly and there to help. We chose this company as the other company were trying to charge extras for taking a bag of towels, food taking esky over so it was heaps cheaper going with keppel connections. Great experience thanks Keppel connections

Our journey to GKI was truly on the high seas - a dramatic rollercoaster ride on the smaller of KK’s ferries. But they all looked after us really well and delivered us in one piece (if rather wet for those of us sitting out in the open at the back) in spite of the wind and waves.
Our return journey several days later was on the bigger more comfortable boat with a lot of sandy day trippers and much calmer seas. All our belongings were safely loaded and returned and the ferry ran on time. An excellent service - thanks guys.

Used Keppel Konnections as transfers for a recent three day stay on the island. Professional service with a relaxed atmosphere and SMS updates of travel time changes. Was greatly impressed by the crews ability to rapidly accommodate stranded passenger's from compeditor's early departure.

We decided on our drive back from North Queensland to stop and take this day trip to explore the great barrier reef once more.
What a great decision! the snorkelling was colourful and plenty of marine life, island vibes at the hideaway, new snorkel gear for hire, quality transport across to the island and relaxed, friendly staff on the boat and at dive shop & restaurant.
We would highly recommend Keppel Konnections for your trip to the reef.
A side note, there’s a bit of walking up and over a headland to get to some of the snorkel spots- we did have to carry our 3 year old a bit. Next time we’ll take the backpack to carry them.

Thanks guys, great Service

Keppel Konnections runs small ferries (multiple trips daily) from the Marina at Rosslyn Bay (a few kms south of Yeppoon) to Great Keppel Island and back (approx 30 minutes each way, depending on the weather).
The staff are excellent - really friendly & professional - from the check-in office at the Marina, to the boat skippers, to the young deckies.
My friends and I were really impressed with all of them. We had great trips in both directions, and it was so handy booking through GKI Hideaway (where we stayed on the island) so that our overnight bags were taken care of for us on arrival and departure.
Highly recommend Keppel Konnections.

We used Keppel Konnection as a ferry service for our 3 night stay at the holiday village. The ferry ride was nice and short and all luggage was taken care of. However slightly annoyed that they announce they won't take any eskies over 23l but we saw plenty of people carrying on bigger ones. It seems to depend on the boat and how full it is in regards to how much luggage you can bring.
Overall a good experience with very friendly staff

The return journey from Great Keppel to Rockhampton was absolutely fine, a slight delay due to a bridal party but no big deal. The outward journey from Rockhampton to Great Keppel on the other hand, for me (and my daughter) we found to be quite traumatic. I totally appreciate nobody can control the weather, but I do think more consideration should be given to the comfort of passengers in such circumstances. As it was, we were sent across in a very small vessel with a very young male captain and female crew member into crashing waves and very bumpy conditions. I’m sure for you guys who are used to rough conditions at sea, it is no big deal, but you need to bear in mind that there are many people using your service who are not used to this and who could actually find it quite terrifying! I think it’s fair to say that for the majority of the trip over, it felt like a rollercoaster ride. There was no reassurance from either the skipper or crew member. The skipper basically said if you don’t like it today, you wouldn’t have liked it yesterday…..really helpful!! And the female crew member did eventually ask my husband if there was anything she could do (along with a few ladies behind us who had sick bags), but this was in between playing on her phone and applying lipstick. Hopefully a more empathetic outlook will come with age. Totally appreciate there wasn’t a huge amount they could do out in the middle of the ocean and also appreciate you can’t control the weather. However, I think there are a few things that could have been handled differently…..was there a different time in the day that it would have been calmer? From what I’ve gathered from travelling on various vessels on our travels now, is that the larger vessels are generally more stable - we travelled on a larger vessel back to Rockhampton, so in rougher seas, would it not be better to use this for the comfort of your passengers rather than the really small vessel we were sent over on (even if there aren’t that many passengers travelling)? Lastly, a little bit of empathy / reassurance goes a long way - warn passengers that it may be rough and why, reassure that everything is fine and generally just seem like you care and understand that not everybody is used to rough seas. So all in all, the outbound journey was an awful experience, but the inbound journey was absolutely fine.

Good afternoon, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
It is common for passengers to become sea sick on even the flattest of days depending on the person, but we absolutely agree that our deckhands should remain attentive through any and every journey; especially on rougher seas. I apologise that was not your experience. We have forwarded your concern to the manager and will be re-training our staff around this issue. Motion sickness is surely no fun and a little bit of understanding and care in those moments goes a long way, that is for certain.
Generally, if there is inclement weather, the trip out to the island will always be slightly bumpier than the return as going towards the mainland you are traveling with the swell of the ocean, not against it. Regarding making considerations for the weather, this is part of our procedures and can assure you this would have also been the case on the day you travelled. We often move transfer times if the weather and tides call for that precaution to be made. The skipper is trained and experienced in driving that vessel and in those conditions, regardless of his age. We do have a larger vessel, but you have to have a different qualification to drive different classes of vessels which is why we would have run our smaller vessel that morning as well as the number of passengers. It may have looked like an oversight but had its own reasoning not obvious to those not familiar with marine rules and regulations. Safety is of utmost importance to us and while a bumpy crossing is not so enjoyable, at no point would we ever run a vessel if it was deemed unsafe and we have cancelled transfers when it's been deemed so in the past. We take that very seriously.
We thank you for your feedback and are glad that your return to the mainland was more enjoyable. We hope you give us another chance and travel again with us on a day with better weather. Kind regards, Keppel Konnections.
