Seems like this cave is not as popular as Adam’s peak, I personally really enjoyed going up the hill and see the cave and beautiful nature on the way. (The posted pictures on the site cannot really capture the whole beauty of nature.) Also, it was a good exercise. If you gets too hot, you can get a fresh coconut for 90 rupees. The “cafe” owner is very calm and nice. I saw many locals and few tourists at this site.

For those who like hiking it is a thing to do. For everyone else I really recommend not to go.
Entrance fee per adult is 200 rupiah and they charged me half for the kids even though it is supposed to be free. I don’t mind the money but they sell it to you in the village and on signs as a temple whilst it is just a bat cave. There is no information available and the local who accompanied us as a “guide” could not provide much more than ppl used it 5000 yrs ago.
The tea hut other reviews mentioned has collapsed but around the first bend after 80m you have two elderly ladies selling coffee or tea from flasks.
There are three tunnels, most of them collapsed but one could crawl in if interested. None is more than 40-50m though. The light from your phone is enough, don’t fall for them selling you torches.
I went with my two 7 yrs of kids but we expected a bit more than a cave and graffiti from local kids. Easy to skip this one.

I really enjoyed visiting the cave, because there were no guides or other tourists. I loved that I saw a lot of monkeys, birds and bats. The birds make small nests in the roof of the cave, so be careful not to disturb. The entrance is only 200 rupees, and there's a fun, little story on the ticket. The 600 steps is a good exercise 👍

Reputed to have been used by King Rawana to hide the Princess Sita I wish I had researched more before walking. An entry fee, over 700 steps up, 90% concrete, some natural uneven stone stepping points, some step after step, others steps deeper requiring two paces. In 30c heat its fortunate to be wooded and therefore in shade. Some nice views on the walk. But is the journey worth it? No, it is just a cave, no carvings or colour. that I expected, I just didn’t check how far I'd have to walk to be disappointed. Some photos under this entry show photos of a reclining Buddha or colourful walls, it is not here, that is Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya Temple a few miles away.

A fairly strenuous climb of about 600 steps with beautiful scenery on one side and lush foliage on the other. The cave is itself is vey large, quite dark and somewhat wet. More information about the history of the cave would be welcome.

I am sorry, but no. Too far away from Ella Rock (add hour to your trip) and so many stairs with same view and cave itself is not worthy at all. Temple is also not worthy for me. On the top of Ella Rock is nicer cave temple.

It is around 2.5 km away from Ella town. You can come near the entrance gate by your own vehicle. Need to take a ticket, very cheap but not including guide service. As per the legend It's known to be the resting place for king Ravana. Some believe still sleeping till he wakes up.
It's a moderate hike to the top and it's beautiful. Especially if you are a nature lover or the bird watcher.

Not sure why an entrance fee exists, when this is a natural dwelling. It should be enjoyed for free, especially since there is not much to see at the top. Also, this is a nesting site for swiftlets, which shouldn't really be disturbed, so advertising this as a tourist attraction puts them at risk.
I enjoyed the walk up through the forest though, with its views and bird life.

We recently visited this place on 05 jan 2015. Due to the recent landslide, the steps reaching this, on the last stretch is completely damaged. Please check with the people before climbing up. Else it will be waste of time, to climb some 300 steps and then finding out that it is still not repaired.

First of all, there is absolutely no "information" about the historic significance of this cave, either at the entrance, during the hike, or in the cave. So basically, you will just be climbing stairs for 500 meters and will be looking at a cave made by falling of rocks strategically.
The entrance fees for the cave is 150 LKR. Although this is most probably an "unofficial" or "illegal" business setup by some locals who consider themselves the caretaker of the cave, although there is nothing to take care of. Since we did not want any quarrel and it was not a big amount, we agreed to pay.
The hike itself was moderate. There were stairs for most part of the hike and only for a very short duration you will have to climb the rocks. The end result, however, is very disappointing. Just a makeshift cave with no information about it whatsoever. You stand there, take a customary picture, and make your way downstairs.
Only do it if you are in Ella for more than 2 days and have already exhausted all the places to see and getting bored of sitting in the chic cafes at the main road.

What are the entry fees to the Ravana Cave for a local and also for a tourist?

I think it was somewhere around 200 Rs, definitely not expensive.
