Quick garden tour, some great spices to buy afterwards.

I didn't do the cookery course - no time😣, but had a quick 15 minute tour round the shaded garden while the owner explained each spice plant. I then bought some spices back at the house. The roasted chili powder (which is a blend of various spices, not just chillies) smelled wonderful, and was good value at 200 rupees for... More

If you are in Ella, go and do the cooking class there! It was an awesome experience! The cook is very fun and nice! We made 4 different (if I remember it right, the recipes we took with us are still deep down in my backpack) dishes with rice and papadam as sidedishes and all of them were very dilicious.... More

We had such a great night at Ella's spice garden, learning to make some delicious Sri Lankan meals. You are welcomed in to their lovely family home, whilst being taught amazing family recipes. Chandika who leads the classes speaks fluent English, and has us laughing at his jokes the entire night. Highly recommend this class!!!!

We joined the cooking workshop which Chanty gives in his family's home and it was such a wonderful night! Your host is a gifted chef and very apt at teaching you the insider tricks of Sri Lankan cooking, but he might as well have become a comedian! We laughed as much as we learned and had a wonderful dinner. Too... More

My husband and I joined the cooking lesson in Ella spice garden, and it was a great experience. Chandika, our "Teacher" speaks fluent English, he printed for us the recipes, and added many explanations and tips. These were 3 hours of fun in which all of us (4 couples from all over the world) did the cooking according to Chandika's... More

I really enjoyed the cooking class. It was thought by a young man (I forgot his name) and he was very knowledgeable and also funny. We made 4 dishes - 3 types of curries, coconut samba and some extras. All food was vegetarian. The recipes were family recipes and were really delicious. You also get a booklet of the recipes.... For only 100 Rs this is a cute little place to visit when in Ella. The place is right in the city and the tour takes about half an our. He tells you a little bit about the different spices they use and in the end you are offered to buy spices.

At first we thought oh no but we learned about some great spices and herbs and their traditional use in cooking and massage etc. The banquet we created in a simple setting was awesome
