Very long nice Beach. Some Restaurant serving fresh catched fish and seafood. In low tide you can walk over many sandbanks, in high tide you can swim, be careful about stones in the water. There are only certain places with only sand.

Lovely beach, friendly locals, many Italians. Everybody happy, Jambo, and welcoming, Karibu. Pole Pole certainly captures the pace! Hakuna Matata..
Quite a sea breeze, sometimes whipping up the sand making it unpleasant, but great for kite surfers.
White sand, but lots of weed and muddy patches in the ocean.
Hawkers friendly, and not persistent. Gifts reasonably priced, and massage $20. Food and drink expensive - Western prices +

Our hotel was a buggy ride away from this beach, so all the guests tended to congregate pretty much in front of the staircase. Beach is okay when the tide is in, otherwise you can't really do much swimming. Water is shockingly tepid, which makes it a bit unpleasant. On the day I swam, there was what felt like a thin film of oil, which, if you are a mustachioed gentleman like I am (or woman), clings to the face. Not nice.

Sadly, the beaches around Zanzibar are becoming increasingly polluted so the best swimming experience usually requires a boat ride to one of the smaller islands or sandbanks (at a cost of much dollars), which kind of defeats the purpose of an island holiday.

Lovely white sand. The sand is fine and very firm. Motor and quad bikes, as well as bicycles go along the beach, leaving hardly visible tracks. Foot prints are difficult to see. In the sea there is coral, so you need rubber shoes if walking out beyond the low tide mark. Beach patrolled by security guard. There are no lifeguards. There are occasional beach boys selling items or tours. The tide brings in a small amount of seaweed. High tide covers the beach. There are fishing/seaweed traps off shore, opposite Sultan Sands Hotel, about 100m out, consisting of stakes in the ground, not visible when the tide is in.

We came here to enjoy a relaxing time and get a feel of the local culture. Definitely we enjoyed the beach and tranquility, good long walks. But we were shocked to see that this beach is full of only Italians. Of course it is no problem to have any nationality but it has taken the local culture away as locals even though speak good Swahili and English, have to speak Italian, in a way changing their daily language. You can not even find local food here as the menu has only Pizza, Pasta and italian food. Terrible! We managed to get a chance to speak to locals and understand about life in kiwengwa and they said that it has become an Italian dominant land and the locals are paid very less salary for hard work and all tourism money goes to Italian pockets. So much so that many resorts are even booked only for Italians with no entry to any other guests! We felt miserable for the locals as the essence of local culture is completely lost in kiwengwa.

We were staying at a place owned by an Italian and they made us uncomfortable as the owners were only speaking to Italian groups with no conversation with us/English speaking people.

The beach is undoubtedly beautiful.

We were planning on staying here for three days, but we only lasted for three hours. We entered an Italian overloaded beach where the annoying beach boys great you with Ciao, pizza places everywhere, loads of touristic shops and only Italian people. We are Europeans but we felt super uncomfortable and definitely not feeling the true Zanzibar vibes. Horrible that the entire culture is gone there, such a shame because its a nice beach.

The first thing that you notice when you arrive at Kiwengwa beach is how its is sprawling with life. This is understandable judging by the sandy white beaches and unbelievable serenity. I toured there with my family and had the a lifetime experience, the nice hotels, the boat rides, and beautiful scenery, all at affordable prices. However, i must warn you that at times it can be hectic dealing with the people selling the souvenirs and the beach boys. Luckily we stumbled upon a competent tour and transfers company owned by a native, Erick, who was professional, and knew the ins and outs of Kiwengwa, and Zanzibar. You can reach him through +255 624 097 961 to ensure your vacation runs smoothly.
