About
Come and discover the amazing underwater world and the bottlenose dolphins at the famous Mnemba Atoll in the Indian Ocean. We are the only the dive operator in Zanzibar to have a dive centre in Stone Town on the west coast where we dive the reefs in front of Stone Town and we can do wreck dives and night dives. One Ocean is in-house with the full dive operation and boat launching site at Bluebay Beach Resort in Kiwengwa and Matemwe Beach Village in Matemwe. Inside Ocean Paradise Resort we have a booking office and pool facility! Kiwengwa and Matemwe are located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar close to Mnemba Atoll, with the best diving and snorkelling spot in Zanzibar! Dive packages can be shared among our different locations to give more variety to our divers. We have very high safety and environmental standards.

Four great dives in two days from the new Kendwa dive center by One Ocean. The first day, I had the Divemaster Falem to myself, so we went out on a smaller boat with just him, the boat captain, and 1 crew. The dive was a bit murky at first, but then cleared, and there was such a wealth of corals, colorful fish, nudibranchs, rays - so much to look at and for. The second days' dive was off a dhow, which was charming. The One Ocean manager, Sylvia, was with us, and she's just lovely - warm to chat with, interested and interesting, and we had a great time diving along one of the farther islands. Beautiful day, although a bit choppy, beautiful dive. I'm a beginner, so feeling safe, well looked after, and not pressured to 'do more-go farther' was wonderful - this is the third experience with One Ocean, and I highly recommend them!

We dove 3 days with One Ocean in Stonetown. The staff was really friendly, helpful, and fun to chat with at the shop and onboard. We have only dove in the Caribbean and Pacific oceans so the Indian Ocean was new to us. This was the healthiest we have seen to date. We saw so many new species of fish and coral. Our dive master, Hassan, was super attentive and showed us nudibranchs for the first time. Sam was an excellent leader at the shop. We enjoyed his company as well as his 10 point back flips. Thank you for awesome memories. Favorite sites were aquarium and two stones.

Very satisfied with the excellent service! We were a group of 3, a very expert diver, a "basic" diver and a snorkeler. We were advised in a very honest way on what we could realistically expects from the dives and snorkeling points according to our needs. Falem the dive master is a real professional and very passionate about his job. We had a wonderful time on our dives, all the staff, including our snorkeling guide and boat crew are experts, kind and attentive. Highly recommended!

Excellent experience. Superb dive masters. Well organized and very responsive to our dive requests. Would absolutely recommend using them for Zanzibar dives. Recommend north end of the island for best dive sites.

We were staying at the Bluebay Hotel, which we chose because it had a dive centre. On our first day, we dropped in to see Gabriel who was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding doing an Advanced Open Water qualification. The same afternoon, we were in the pool for a refresher session and then spent three days doing our qualification with Simon, our PADI instructor.

It might be worth noting that while there is a dive centre at the hotel, the main dive base is a 15 minute journey away by mini-bus, with the actual departure for the dives another 5 minutes drive away - in local style busses, which was great fun.

We were collected from our hotel every morning at 7.40am and were back usually by about 1.30pm - so still loads of time to chill (and do the PADI e-learning).

The main dive centre, as well as its subsidiary in our hotel, was really well organised, with super-friendly staff and good quality equipment (mainly ScubaPro).

The dive boats were great - plenty of room, with a good selection of snacks in between dives and plenty of drinking water as well. Before each dive, we were introduced to the crew and were given a briefing. The boats were shared by both divers and snorkelers.

Some of the dive sites were busy (as mentioned in some other reviews) - not that much of an issue for divers, but potentially more so for snorkelers. The coral and sea life were a pleasant surprise - having had disappointing dives in Mauritius a few years before, there was plenty to see.

The standout element, without a shadow of a doubt, was our dive instructor Simon. He was patient, kind, relaxed - but most of all, a real laugh and great fun to be with.

We were so pleased that we chose One Ocean to do our AOW and would not hesitate to recommend them highly.

My husband and I got our open water certification, a bucket list item of mine. I felt the operation was very smoothly run and had an excellent experience. Our dive instructor Simon was patient, knowledgeable, and kind, speaking excellent English (and multiple other languages). We had some rough diving conditions with heavy current and despite this I felt (at relative) ease, thanks to Simon. There are fresh fruits and snacks in between dives. One negative, is that they do not provide dive socks and I had some chafing and blistering of my toes with wearing fins without socks. Overall an excellent experience, I would definitely dive with One Ocean again.

Both my wife and I are competent swimmers and snorkellers (indeed have PADI but not dived for a few years). We departed from the Kigomene base in choppy seas as the tide was high and a sea breeze. You have to be agile to get into the boat.

Upon reaching the coral site off Mnemba Island there were dozens of other boats - all vying for a space above the coral. Into the water, with our guide, it was a drift snorkel and the boat would pick us up 40mins later. In the choppy seas (wave height maybe a foot), it was difficult to keep sight of our guide, and avoid the other boats. Not a good experience to have a boat heading straight for you. It wasn’t a relaxed swim as you had to keep up with the rest of the party. About a quarter of the folk either did not go into the water or came out early. On the second swim about half stayed on board. Perhaps expectations did not match reality.

The coral and fish are interesting enough.

The guys provided snacks and water which was good. We landed at the Kigomene beach and boarded a local truck for the journey back to base. Travel like the locals! Be prepared for very bumpy tracks but that’s the nature of undeveloped infrastructure.

I felt that safety could have been better, with the boat keeping up with the swimmers when the water is not ideal. As I mentioned getting into the boat was a bit of an adventure.

So in summary if the weather is not calm the experience needs a bit of work, and certainly not for beginners.
